Very cool local historic site. Guide was very knowledgeable. My family loves local history so for us it was an awesome thing to do when we had a free afternoon. Plus, close to Somerville and a lot of other interesting sites.
New curator trying to make history fun had a notebook where people would write copy of a letter written by George Washington also had old games, but not allowed to take pictures
Not a big tour, but for free a great value and the guide is very informative
Raw piece of history in the middle of NJ. It is incredible place! You literally have your hands on household items from 18th century and walk in the rooms where George Washington dwelled in 1778! Admission is free but you have to call ahead of time and schedule a guided tour.
This is a truly important historic site for anyone interested in the American Revolution. Washington slept here--for many months. The home was grand in its day, and retains its authentic character.
The Wallace House and the Old Dutch Parsonage was CLOSED when I went there. On the website it said the home was open from 10 AM -12 PM and 1 PM - 4 PM on Wednesday. Now on the website it says that they are closed on a Wednesday if there was a holiday the day before and there was not a holiday on AUG 21. Overall I was NOT HAPPY.
Great place for quick history lesson. Our guide Hillary was very knowledgeable, patient, and went out of her way to walk us through as much detail as we wanted. This place does not pretend to be a museum, but it does give you a very real sense of how folks lived at the time.
Great historical place to tour. New Jersey has to increase the maintenance especially of the Old Dutch Parsonage.
This is a quiet hidden gem. A piece of revolutionary war era history that is overshadowed by its cousins. We had a delightfully thorough tour of the place. I wish this place could get more exposure and patronage so they can continue to preserve it. Definitely worth a stop if youre in the area!
The curator made learning history fun
What a hidden gem. Was visiting from out of town, and looking for a historic site to visit. Had a fabulous tour of the house and learned about its history, and Washington’s time here. For anyone in the area with even a modest interest in history, the Wallace house is a great place to visit. The tour can easily be completed in an hour, including the parsonage across the street.
Awesome historic place; good informative tour. Unfortunately the state of NJ needs to step up on its maintenance. It is very poorly maintained.
This place was Amazing and the people who gave us the tour did an awesome job! they know a lot about the history of the homes and were very happy to answer any questions...If you Love History then check out this place!
Historic. Goerge Washington stayed here with his troops..as well as the old Dutch Parsonage. spent a cold winter there
The guide was very knowledgeable and the visit was free
Free and with a super guide
