This is a great market to have in the neighborhood. It is a mini supermarket that carries a good array of food.
Good sandwich but a long wait to get it.
Ive seen Acrobatic Conundrum, Cirque Us!, and a great magician that I unfortunately cannot remember the name of. Each time Im there, I have a wonderful time with my family and enjoy the shows. The space is very nice and the mini cafe is too. You can check out all sorts of interesting shows here. I look forward to the next show I see at the Armory.
The Armory always has something fun going on, from farmers markets to concerts to holiday markets. I go to the twice-monthly Pub Sing in the cafe, and arrive early to get one of their tasty sandwiches (the 617 is my favorite) and a beer from their surprisingly broad selection. They also offer delicious local baked goods and Taza chocolate. The Pub Sing is a no-cover, just-for-fun event where you can enjoy singing with other people no matter what you sound like. Sing whatever you like, as long as it has a chorus that we can pick up on the fly and join in on. (And there are plenty of loud people to cover your shakier notes!) Come check it out, the second Thursday and fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00.
Great service, very cute, covid conscious!
Armory is great looking building. Went to learn Balkan dancing. Was a lot of fun.
Its a great little performing arts space that is sometimes used for local artist markets. Cafe serves good food and the bar is open during events if you want a drink.
Pretty cool space. A friend and I went to see a storytelling show. It felt pretty both spacious and intimate. And Ive never been to a show where they had such a good craft beer selection. The only downside is theres nowhere to park. So you better take a lyft.
I have been to meetings there and have visited the small coffee shop. The coffee is good, the meeting room is large enough for 100 people and they welcome my service dog. Actually, while they legally have to admit service dogs, the joy is in never once having any one, staff or other visitors ask about my having a service dog. That alone is enough for me to give them an extra star.
Lovely establishment for the poetry reading I attended today (:Acoustics were fairly good.It was slightly off-putting to hear other events going on in the other spaces of the building & also the chatter from the cafe employees (very unprofessional and distracting (: to say the least)Overall would love to come see other art events taking place here!
Went to a wine and cheese tasting from local vendors the set up was nice the vendors were great and the products were delicious. We bought a bunch of cheeses very pleased
I was at the center for the Somerville Winter Farmers Market and it in my honest opinion, it is too small but it has some good vendors.
There is always something good happening here. I held opening night of my film fest here, I have performed here, I have attended events here and eaten here.
Small local arts center withsizeable performing space/stage. Artists welcome to display, practice and perform there. Amazingly it also has a cafe open for breakfast and at least lunch. Most delicious sandwich Ive ever had. Only concern, when older folks came in for info they were referred to a website for events ... Because things change frequently ... They dont print up any schedule. Older persons I heard given this info were not technically saffy and left with no help.
The Wife and loved this place.
It is beautiful, handicapped accessibility and they the people that work there will take you around. Lots of people, interesting.
Historically rich, supportive of the arts, and welcome to people of all walks of life.
Great community vibe.
The building is beautiful and was a perfect venue for a blind beer tasting!
Amazing place to go. Dont miss out!
My sons godfather and I go to open mic events here. Very small-town feeling in a big city in a good way. Coffee counter limited but benefits the arts center. Lots of events and classes. Nice as just coffeeshop, days.
Nice local market to go to on the weekends. There is two floors of local shops. Sometimes they have some live music there and the crowd is always nice. There is also lots of food options there to eat and drink as well. There is two hour parking available on the streets nearby.
Cool place. Enjoyed the show. If youre over 165lbs go easy on the seats though. Lol. Seats are not made for anyone who maybe even slightly overweight as they seemed like theyd give out with the slightest movement. If you are anymore than 210lbs DO not sit down. The chair will probably explode from under you. Lol
They have an indoor market on Sunday and list all the vendors online. They also accept EBT and have a program where you earn a dollar for every dollar spent. Its great. Stop at the information desk if youre interested.
Very clean, went to give blood!
Great venue, with parking, shows are limited due to noise restrictions
Always hosts fun, local events!
Excellent space with great community. Attended ecstatic dance here (I-Opener) and met wonderful people. Returned the next day to look for a lost item and the fellow working the cafe was super kind and helpful, and his friend playing the piano was concert-worthy. I grabbed a coffee to linger and enjoy his music. Great vibes and good people here
This iis a great venue for a wide array of events. There is plenty of open space and options for staging and a serving bar. The use of balcony is huge plus for the event goers as it gives a separation from the main floor. It could also be used for event support staging. I have personally seen the use of the rafters for a circus show and it was handled wonderfully. With good even planning and coordination this space shines and is a community gem.
Great Saturday morning farm market
In this is over the boys & girls club but she is really cool but at the amato center they have community members who can put on plays and the place are always amazing and its just a really cool community that.
This is a great local venue. Nice wood floor for dancing and a raised stage. Seems that there is a very active local community that is involved with various events that are held here
Like a high school gymnasium type feel.
Really nice event space and cafe!
Fun spot with really cool local activities. Worth checking it out
Was zumba night, was very fun. I enjoyed
I go to the cafe for an event thats held there every month. Its an intimate space that evokes those eclectic cafes youd hang out in with your friends after college classes.
Always something interesting when I go there. Not a fancy venue but always something good. Great little cafe inside.
So much history! The event staff are very hospitable and helpful. The space is beautifully decorated without compromising the rich history behind the building.
We had a great Mother’s Day here!! Fun day at the vegan fest!!
Really cool event space, great Cafe serving beer and wine.
Went to a fantastic performance here the other night and performed here myself only a few weeks ago. Enjoyed both visits greatly. I love having a space for the arts (and the cafe is a nice addition, too!)
Somerville has so many unique spaces for artistic events and The Ctr for Arts (armory) is a spectacular venue for the local (and not so local) to enjoy music, dance (including ecstatic dance such as i-opener and vortex), and community events. There is something going on everyday at this space. It even has a mini cafe to fuel up before or after an event depending on the time of the event. Large event space for rentals as well as classes.
This is an excellent venue for community events, Farmers markets, and more! Somerville wouldnt be the same without it.
Lee Young Jun PEN ARPen Art(General Remarks)Infinity of lines and dots have symbolism. Such symbolism is ever changing according to the spirit’s depth. All works are kaleidoscopic; they are usually composed of indescribable expressions. Therefore, art’s depth also can be said to be unlimited. Is pen art’s depth also infinite? In other words, do the lines and dots flowing from the nib of a pen have an artistic qualification? In this respect, it is worth thinking deeply. Pen art begins from an essence of nature’s fundamental values. From the standpoint of value, or color, a harmony of black and white is essential in nature. As it is impossible to see any color in darkness, distinguishing color is an essential role of light. That is why the soul is drawn to light. Whiteness, or light is a spiritual reflection of the soul while blackness, or darkness is a reality of life on earth. As the color green is an essential color of vegetation, burnt charcoal is an earthy color that will stay near black. Blackness is heterogeneous and may be hostile to life. If blackness belongs to the essence of nature, it also may be said to represent the image of death. A combination of black and white constitutes degrees of lightness and darkness. When painting black on a white background, the soul is transported to the white background. Whiteness comes to life when contrasted with black line and black space. In this case, soul also may be expressed through the blackness. Soul may be transported to the black or a combination of white and black, which shed a mysterious merit to the soul or spirit. Pen arts starts and ends from an essence of nature’s fundamental contrasts. The primary essence is infinite and eternal while the artistic harmony of black and white can take one’s breath away. But, this is not possible until a metamorphosis has been realized over many years and spiritual transcendence has occurred. The transfer of spirit occurs when one’s life experiences are projected onto the white canvas in harmony with blackness. That is the true ‘pen art.’ Artist Lee Young Jun ㄷ
A great, chill place for coffee, bagels, and sandwiches. Lots of space and atmosphere thats more lounge or quiet bar than coffee shop. Not very expensive, and hosts live enertainment on the weekends and sometimes in the evenings.
This multiuse arts facility has many activities. Poetry, Story telling, Plays, speed dating. Get their calendar.
Herbstalk every year is great. Cafe is friendly and cozy. Love that theres a parking lot
The cafe is casual and nice. The main attraction is the architecture of the building. Quite fascinating.
Went to an acoustic show at this location, great place to see a show
Surprisingly, a large, very rustic facility.
Winter Farmers Market provides local, organic and not wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables during off season months. Prepared food and baked goods.
So many great activities abound at this place. From farmers markets to drafts fairs to dance nights to yoga, its just a wonderful historic venue. Check it out! They also have a great little cafe in the front!
The best farmers market you will ever experience!
Theyve hosted LadiesCon three years in a row!
Have attended many fun, informative fairs here. Parking can be tough but its a beautiful space.
Great looking venue. Not the best choice for the beer and chocolate fest we attended. There is an upstairs area which looks out on the main hall area. There is a small cafe inside, I didnt stop to evaluate the food there but it looked cozy
Nice cafe will try again for friendly people love to visit
Location of the Somerville Winter Farmers Market. This is a great place for all sorts of pop-up shows and markets. Dont forget the great coffee shop inside. The have excellent baked goods to boot!
A most welcoming place.
Prettiest cafe ever.
Its really good at what it does, which is being an event space for local arts. (if youre looking for armor youre probably out of luck here.)
Great place to have a murder mystery age game
Wonderful evening of dance and fun !!!!
Lots of great local events here, like the winters farmers market and the Somerville Fashion Show and Open Studios every spring.
Awesome place for events
Cool place to do an event at. I have attended multiple beer events here and they are always fun. The balcony level inside is neat
Great place to find out about community events, some of which are held here. Great coffee shop inside with free WiFi.
The Armory Cafe has great ambience and live music
Came here for the Christmas market and it was the perfect space for it. Great market, and there was a stage for bands to play too, which was fun. There was an area for kids upstairs too, but I didnt go...
Nice space for many different types of events. It has a small cafe.
Arts at the Armory is a great, local place! Whether you want to see a music performance, do some broga, or even buy fresh produce at the farmers market, Arts at the Armory has it all. They also have a cafe that serves sandwiches, along with beer and wine! They are also bringing in new events and its a great place to hang out.
Great night for fundraiser! Only if we could have gone longer without having to shut the sound down LOL
Came here for the winter flea. Very cool building. Lots of great vendors and food available.
Comfortable and relaxed the service may be slow but its well worth it they let you linger
Love the place lots of childhood memories!
Great holiday market with craft/book/art vendors, food and drink available for purchase.
It felt kind of like a school gym wiyh folding chairs (Ive only been there for a concert) but it was cool.
Great place for large meetings. Nice Café
Great place to listen to some music and have a great cup of coffee.
I love this place, its a great community center. I highly recommend the cafe and the Zumba classes.
Great multi-use spot. Go check out a winters farmer market or the cafe there!
Attended for the Bacon Take Down with the boy. Highlights were the plentiful bacon ice cream sammiches (strawberry was the best) and the most excellent bacon oatcake with blue cheese. I hate blue cheese, but i loved this whatever the heck it was.Boy would like to remind me that the caramel with the powdered dextrose-bacon concoction was his favorite. It is a good day for bacon in Somerville.
Dont bother. No antiques, the oldest damn thing in there was me...
Fun space where a variety of cultural activities take place, including a weekly flea market.
Amazing staff, great cafe. Its a pleasure attending and putting on events here. A real staple of the community!
I remember (years ago) when this unique old edifice was for sale and I was worried they were going to turn it into condos. My fears were unfounded though - its a great venue! Ive seen Shakespeare, circus, Beardfest, and other arts shows. Keep it on your list!
So many great things about this place. Cafe, farmers market, childbirth classes and much more
Great venue, $500 for free community events with sound and video!
Fun tango event nice dance floor
Fantastic venue for Beyond Wrestling. Nice staff, clean, well lit. A fun time.
Great community spot - always something going on there!
The Somerville Armory hosts a number of events throughout the year. Beer festivals, Skill Shares, Bro-ga. It is also the home of the Somerville Winter Farmers Market, one of the best selections of local produce during the cooler months. The cafe is regularly open for a cup of coffee before any of these events.Check the website for upcoming events and private rental information.Only downside is when events feature live music. The main space gets very loud very quickly, and Ive yet to be to an event here where the live music wasnt too loud.
