This place has 2 different ways to go up a hard one and an easy one. If its crowded warning if you take the hard route* you will likely get stuck behind people that can not make it up the canyon or stuck behind people taking 5000 pictures. If you get claustrophobic it might be a challenge. The canyons are so beautiful. And the view from the top is amazing.
We had a blast at Annie’s Canyon! What a great quick hike nestled at the end of a beautiful and friendly neighborhood! Hike is super fast and easy enough we ran the loop (well, the kids and I did three times.) the other adults were not willing to do it that many times. But, I love getting outdoors and just enjoying this amazing SoCal weather! There are some great views to be had up there, and it is unique with the rock crevices and ladder to climb. Fun day, and ended the day with Ice Cream in Encinitas for the kids!
Its a short hike, packed dirt, so only go when dry. Its beautiful, but the canyon part is closed now.
Visited this place in November 2020. Currently this trail is closed due to construction.
Well-maintained trail with excellent signage and easy access. Just under 2 miles so its short and easy with a little bit of climb that adds to the excitement. Popular for families with children so it can get crowded at times. No bikes allowed so this is strictly for the pedestrians
Nice short hike, good scenery, great little badlands canyon to walkthrough. Unfortunately parking is difficult.
The hike to Annies canyon is not very difficult and the landscape of the ecological reserve beside it is amazing!
Great place to enjoy the outdoors!
Great place for a family hike! Definitely bring boots after a rainy day and a change of clothes in case any young ones fall into a mud puddle. But, otherwise, lots of fun for family and doggy.
Nice refreshing hike with the canyons the most interesting part. Take the hard route to go up and moderate one to come down
Amazing hike. Even more amazing at night.
One of the best hikes in san diego
The trail is closed. Hope it opens soon .You are still able to do short 1 mile walk but where the actual trail starts it had signs that its closed .
Awesome place still under construction right now
Such an interesting hike. You really feel like you ve left the city and walked into a beautifully preserved area that looks like it did hundreds of years ago. Dont go if youre claustrophobic.A short hike in a very unique place.
The trail is closed! But, on google say : open 24 hours.
Very short hike but super cool.
Great little excursion. Tends to be busy on nice days and no facilities. Make sure your hands are free is you plan to go in the canyon - not a place where you want to have to hold stuff and hoist yourself up.
Really interesting and fun hike!
This hike is special but highly trafficked and very short. The ladder at the ultimatum of the slot canyon is a little sketchy and should not be tried by very young children or with pets.
Great easy walk, some narrow parts but our 4 year old loved it so we went up twice.
Was still closed when I went there.
This trail is great the whole family has enjoyed it
The trail actually starts at the end of a cul de sac in a residential neighborhood. It is a very unassuming spot for a slot canyon and I wasn’t sure if we had the right spot!Find parking on the street then head to the trail where you’ll follow an easy path along the San Elijo Ecological Lagoon. After about .6 miles you’ll come to the entrance of Annie’s Canyon Trail. The trail through the canyon is only 1/4 mile and is perfect for kids. There are rocks to scramble up and nooks and crannies to hide in. Our whole family loved it!Its a short trail.
So much fun squeezing through the tight canyon. Avoid weekend rush hour if you dont want to get stuck in between groups of fellow hikers.
My family and I had an amazing time out here. We decided to walk out here due to Ken Kramer show on PBS.
Nice hike, and fun for little kids too... it was a bit crowded because today was so nice out, but still a nice walk with the family...
Fairly easy to park and open trail head for several hikes including Annies Canyon Trail. The other trail heads are closed.
Lmao its good idfk
Its a neat hike. We went on a weekday and had no one else there. Tons of graffiti carved into the walls and mostly a view of the highway the whole way there. We spent about 30min total. Would be fun for kids.
Short, easy, unique hike. Awesome local trail.
Fun trail, easy hike. Relatively flat trail, some stairs at the end and the slot canyon is pretty tight.
Very psychedelic. Best to go when you won’t expect a lot of people. Very tight spaces, if you have claustrophobia it may be triggered.
Love this trail. Great to go with the family. Great for pics!
Nice short trail ..but no restroom a lot people do something .. bad smell .
Totally fun and engaging hike unlike anything Ive hiked in San Diego before. Recommended
Great short little canyon hike, the sandstone canyon is a hidden treasure
Unique experience. Could be claustrophobic for some. Level of difficulty gives a good, intense work out but the short distance makes it not too difficult.
Highly recommend, great for families and or anyone or just getting out of the house. The slot canyon is a lot of fun as well!
Beautiful and fun! The strenuous path is a lot of fun, but requires both hands and is not easy. I carried my 3 year old on my shoulders. At one point there is a ladder. So nice!
Oh my goodness what a wonderful little treasure you have hidden we found this place on Facebook decided to check it out we came all the way from North Park what a wonderful treasure we will be back again
Its a trailhead. The trail is a lovely combination of lagoon estuary woods and canyon lands.
Short, but interesting trail along the lagoon and into some slot canyons. Watch out for constructions on some of the entrances though, as you cannot currently access the slot canyons from some of the eastern entrances.
Love the mushroom caves fantastic little hike with great views, easy trail
The city ruined this secret spot.
Nice short hike with a little canyon and a narrow trail through rocks.
This is a wonderful little hidden gem in San Diego. Thecave section is not a cave at all but is still really stunning and unique for San Diego. Just Joe that the trail through this section is exceedingly narrow and tough to squeeze through. It also requires you to climb a ladder, so youll want to leave your pups at home. The cave section is quite short but steep and you can get through it in about 10-15 minutes, but the good news is the surrounding trails are beautiful. I highly recommend a visit.
Recommend visiting
Good, short hike with an interesting trail up to the top of the cliffs. Nice view from the top. Good for kids, but no dogs allowed up Annies Canyon.
Great trail of the wetlands but be warned freeway construction is blocking trail to the east side
Canyon trail is closed as of 9/7
Cant go through it
Glorious trail, not too long, perfect for anyone! Nested in great little town of beloved Solana Beach
Beautiful trail, well marked, well hiked. Looking forward to when the i-5 construction is done and can make a longer hike from Mira Costa college.
A nice easy hike for families to get a sense of the wildlife area and marsh.
Short local hiking spot
Short trail but beautiful day. Very fun!
Low impact hike..short distance trail..good hike for kids..
Short but good hike
A great walk. In terms of hiking this is a 1/10 difficulty. The scenery is great and it is easy to park. A lot of the trails are closed right now though due to construction
In some places really tight but nothing dangerous
Thought the hike would be somewhat difficult, but it was a complete joke. Runs under a highway with houses around, not very natural.
Really cool but it was crowded which made hiking through the crevace even mire claustrophobic.
Gorgeous area to hike! I thoroughly enjoyed it here!
Super easy hike and photo spot
Good trail worth the short trip.
Must hike, if you are around to the area..
Very good short hike lovet
Very crowded on Mothers Day but it was still an excellent hike that children can go on.
I took my 10 year old daughter and my 6 year old son, they enjoyed a lot!!!
Great place for a family hike!
Nice short hike, cool slot canyon. It says strenuous to go through the canyon but its very short, definitely worth it.
Canyon section is closed
Not really what you would consider a trail, more like a back lot with a view. Easy for kids first hike but that is about it
Great for beginners that is why this place is popular. Go when it is less crowded.
Fun hike, wish more trails were open.
Great hike for little kids.
Go for adventure
Cool local hike
Short sweet hike
Really pretty
Great.
Beautiful scenery right here in Solana Beach!
Some of trail closed due to construction on I5...
Too Small!!
Not worth the long hike, take a pass and visit elsewhere
Quiet place
Very crowded dont suggest visiting
