A hidden gem. Lessons all year round, so theres great consistency. My son has been coming for about a year and hes made leaps and bounds as a swimmer. He loves coming to practice. Hes had a number of different instructors, and they all were great (Bailey, Kayley, Griffin, Wesley, Grant, Sara and Sara; I feel bad about missing a name...) ! The groups are small, so the kids get individual attention. Never a complaint about the facility or instructors. Hugh and Elle, who run the program, are wonderful as well. We will becoming here for years.
So far the swimming program is great. They are teaching my 5 years old how to swim. The facility is nice and warm during the winter and the kids are having fun. I wish they have a summer camp. Then I would give Gwinnett Aquatics 20 stars. I recommend Gwinnett Aquatics to kids who want to learn how to swim and competitive swimming.
Our child was profiled at Gwinnett Aquatics and told that s/he looked like s/he committed an offense which s/he didnt. Many times when s/he would complete competing and ask the coaches how s/he did, they would respond with: I wasnt watching you, I was watching someone else, even during times when our child was the only competitor from the team. Our child asks everyday: Why did you ever send me to that place? We are dealing with that regret now. The coaches yell at kids, are hateful, disrespectful and have no business dealing with especially people and children of color.
My child who has autism started classes in January 2019. His first instructor was awesome (Sara) followed by a good instructor in February. (Bailey). Well March his instructor was subpar. I believe they use high school students to teach the lessons so they are not equipped to deal with children with speacial needs well at least his instructor in March was not. I could tell she was frustrated with my sons over excitement and lack of focus (which comes with autism). Today when we entered the pool area she looked at another male instructor and rolled her eyes and her whole body language changed when she saw me and my son( no their has not been any animosity from me or my son toward her). Clearly they had been discussing my son and she was hoping he wouldn’t be in class today. I wanted to turn around and walk out but my son was excited to be there and happy to swim with his friend. I’m going to let him finish his Lessons this month, but we will not be signing up for anymore lessons with Gwinett Aquatics. You all should educate your instructors and swimmers on children with speacial need and how to be inclusive and not make them or their families feel less than.
This pool is located in my neighborhood and they said that we were not allowed to swim because of swim lessons i dont think its fair that we cant free swim in a neighborhood that we live in
