Favorite park near Smyrna. If after May 1 or if weather has been hot and humid, make sure you bring plenty of bug spray. Good bug spray. The trails are gorgeously cut through the woods and are very easily navigated, whether on foot, bike, or horse. 4 trails aside from the Tybout Tracts exist: Yellow, Red, Blue, and the 5K (mix of all 3) to choose from, but all 3 are fairly flat and easy to complete. However, those are known marked trails. I have found plenty others that are unmarked for you to explore.

Wonderful woodland trails, plenty of areas to visit. Mostly flat, making it a great place to start getting into hiking or get back into shape for more intense trails. We did 13 miles of trail on our visit, and would definitely return to see what the others tracks of land have to offer.

One of my favorite forests in DE! The trails are well marked yet offer many opportunities to get lost, which I may have ended up doing. Its all good though as that only added to the excitement of the trip. There are small outposts located where you could stop and rest also. Overall a great place to hike!

I havent been to all the areas yet but we moved to the area looking for new local trails and found this place. Very nice, you can tell it was built long long ago as per the same tree species in the main area, so I wish theyd introduce some variety as its better for the habitat. But its a beautiful place, feel like it definitely needs some love but I feel like if they advertised the camping more they could make some money for renovations. But you cant tell what all they have there or what each parking lot is, its just blackbird park. Had to figure it out myself what it was. But we love getting into nature right down the road so 5 stars for sure. Hope it gets some improvements.

Great easy 2.2 mile hiking trail well marked with portapoty and water spigot in the parking lot. Be aware of hunting seasons! Check website before you hike. Catch and release fishing pond very short walk from parking lot. You might even see some deer and horseback riders. There is also a 4+ mile Blue Loop Trail.

I always have an awesome experience here! There is always pre-chopped wood ready to be lit on fire. The ranger is super friendly too. Just be sure to get their early to fill out a form to ensure yourself a camp spot. You cant just show up and camp, youll run in to problems.

Overall, BSF provides some very nice hiking opportunities. My main complaints are the bugs from spring through fall, and that many trails are low-lying so they flood a lot if theres heavy rain. If you venture outside the Tybout Tract (where the main office and trails are) to the other tracts, be prepared for rougher trails and a few parking roads that would do best with an AWD vehicle (the Meadows Tract in particular). Id like to see maybe one tract set aside as NO HUNTING year-round, so hikers and families can still enjoy the forest through the whole year without worrying about hunters.

Not too bad, they have a pavilion and Little Grill for parties cookout and such, the fishing ponds need to be redone, need more trails and campsites, and could use more things for people to do, but not a bad place
