The interpretive guide was fantastic. He was passionate about the subject and great in his delivery and knowledge. The way he spoke made me feel emotional about the events that happened in Selma despite never having a close relationship to it.
Ken did a wonderful job of explaining the Center. We had a truly inspiring conversation. I bought postcards, books and gifts at the great store. Ill be back when the Center is fully open.
John Lewis represented Alabama beyond what the people hope to have in a American icon beyond the service of Edmund Pettus. It is time to give clarity to heros not fear mongers and bigots. The great honor to rename the bridge to John Lewis Memorial Bridge is the history each Alabama resident should be very proud of.RIP Congressman John Lewis and God speed.
Young man very knowledgeable, welcoming and helpful
Very informative about the the prelude to the voting rights act. Selma itself is eerie - its a town stuck in time. The downtown area has old architecturally interesting buildings that havent been kept up, and the shops close by 2PM. The neighborhood near downtown had many nice well kept houses, but the rest of city looked decrepit.
Great historical place, key part of the Freedom March Movement of there 1960s.
Very well done, wonderful history lesson.Park Ranger very informed, pleasant and helpful.Highly recommend.
Had a great deal of information about Selma, good place to get souvenirs for family members also. Was pleasantly surprised
Staff very welcoming & knowledgeable. Interviews were interesting. Videos were eye-opening to see. Add this to your agenda!!
Very helpful staff. Very informative place. You must go here if you visit Selma.
A must see!! A great 3 story building with lots of things to read and watch. Youll leave feeling educated if not already about what happened in Selma. We actually had a trip planned to go to Chattanooga but told my husband I wanted to take a detour to Selma, and wasnt disappointed at all. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly.
Very well done museum. Dont be fooled by the name - its a Civil rights museum run by the national parks service. Wonderful displays for adults and children to learn our history. Excellent quotes capturing why its so necessary to keep fighting for everyones right to vote.
Its good that this center is here to provide context to the events in Selma & on the Edmond Pettus bridge. But it appears to have been awhile since the government invested in updating the facility.
This is a great place to visit. Informational interactive activities. They also offer a video that documented the activities throughout movement. The staff is amazing and offers a plethora of information and will answer any questions you may have. General admission was a steal at $7.50. This is a must see!
A Great Learning Experience! Would Recommend That Everybody Visit.
Good quick review at the base of the Edmund Pettis Bridge. Same film as at the Lowdnes Center which is far more in depth. Still.
Great food and friendly folks. Price is hard to beat.
Tour guide was very informative
You must experience this. Changed my life.
Definitely a place to visit and great staff
The curator of the museum, is so wonderful and Knowledgeable. It was fun listening to him. One place you should visit when you are travelling through Selma, Alabama.
The information was wonderful
This was a very powerful, educational, spiritual place to be. On the 3rd floor you watch a brief video about Bloody Sunday, Turn around Tuesday and the March from Selma to Montgomery while looking out of the window at the actual bridge. VERY MOVING!!!
Enjoyed being in the center, however as a person who witnessed and participated in the 1965 struggles, I urge powers to be to contact people like myself for more verbal accounts of their experiences. I myself is more than willing to do just that.Im from Marion and Ian available.
What a treat. There were local residents who participated in the march from Selma to Montgomery and other civil right activities. They are not there everyday but if you get a chance to hear their stories, take the time to listen and learn.
Very educational for children and adults
Enlightening and just the beginning. Be sure to visit their extension exhibit further down Hwy 80.
GREAT PLACE TO VISIT !
Wanted to see the Edmund Pettus Bridge, staff at the center was very friendly and gave great advice/info. Did not have enough time to see center but if its anything like the one in Lowndes county, then the exhibits are excellent.
The National Park Service runs a great program. Cant wait for the second floor to be complete with the new exhibits.
Excellent staff and beautiful center! I highly recommend visiting!
Great information and video about the March and history in the area.
Great exhibit. Exquisite staff.
Excellent National Park Service site that is great for learning more about the 1965 protests and marches. Very friendly staff and good information.
Nondescript l. Great staff
Must. See. Detour as far as you have to. I dont care if youre going from Milwaukee to Minneapolis. You need to go.
The center provides many informative exhibits and also provides maps and context for the other historic sites in Selma.
This small but informational National Park Service facility is packed with information and sits at the base of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
