Very disappointed. Older male employee very unprofessional. Ive visited many times and enjoyed the trails previously.
On a recent sunny Sunday afternoon I decided to tape the Patriots game and drive over to the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge on a beautiful early November day and it was one of the nicest days I have spent this fall. The trails were all well maintained and the fall colors were spectacular. I went in the early afternoon before most of the wildlife comes out, but the fall colors were breath taking. If you are looking for an area with a variety of trail types from flat to slight hills this is your area.
Nice easy well marked trail system. Lots of wildlife. Short drive from the city.
Beautifully kept, quiet, easy well marked trails ~ close to Pawtucket if city folk need a nature break !
This was a pleasant walk in the woods. One small hill and multiple scenic looks. Lots of bugs is the only thing keeping me from a 5 star rating.
Probably the most well marked trails Ive seen at a nature reserve this summer.
This is a great walk, fairly flat with fields, ponds, a river, and plenty of wild life, i wish dogs were allowed tho
Very nice hiking trail. Well kept as well.
Well-maintained walking trails, well marked...and thankfully, no dogs allowed
Ive been wanting to hike here for about 2 months now, and I finally got my chance today! Perfect weather day for this lovely place. I was there for about 3 hours total. Walked the Perimeter Trail in its entirety, as well as the Hemlock, Observation Trail, and Muskrat Pond Loops (saving Coles Brook for a subsequent visit). All trails were fairly easy (just watch your step around protruding stones and tree roots) and very well marked/blazed. This lovely Refuge ranges from the outright beautiful to the sublime. Well worth a day visit, and I strongly recommend (after liberally dousing with insect repellent) taking ample time to revel in the sights/smells/sounds (barring civilization noises) everywhere. Everything from the miniscule and humble to magnificent is on display here. Cant wait to go again!
A couple of good hikes with interesting mixed ecology. Support your local Audubon and respect the wildlife!
An amazing place. Very green and beautiful with long trails that can make you feel like youre trekking through the jungle. Stay away from Hemlock Loop unless youre up for a real adventure.
I love this place. Its quiet and peaceful.
Very nice place for hike!!!!!
I have been going here since my teens, although I havent been in many years, Im sure its just as beautiful and serene as my last time there ! Im due for a good hike, think I will pay a visit soon .
If you havent been hiking here in awhile, you will be pleased with the new trail signs and cleaned up walkways. The beautiful Stone wall alongside the fields has been exposed as well after being overgrown by Vines and trees for years.
Great place for a nature walk.
I love Caratunk. Went there a few weeks ago and there were a bunch of people redoing the parking lot and building new walkways from the parking lot. They were super friendly and assured us they would be going out to the trails to maintain them (it was a really muddy day). Cant wait to use the trail all winter now that I know how much they maintain it.
Beautiful wooded trail
Needed something vto do w my kids found vthis place by accident. Gave lived in Pawtucket for 30 years and this was news to me. Super fun and close simple trails w choices and nice views kids had a blast
First time visiting. Attended a Class on Mushroom hunting. I enjoyed the instructor (owner of The Honey Shop). She was very knowledgeable about mushrooms.
A great walk with the family. We were looking to get some exercise in the shade and this place was perfect. Although there are trails that take you through sunny fields, the majority had plenty of shade. There is so much to see! The perimeter trail is 1.8 miles but there are add on loops that will allow you to hike for as much or as little as you can handle. It is a quiet serene place to enjoy wildlife, so not for louder kids or adults. Use insect repellent and still check for ticks. I found 1 dog tick and 2 deer ticks. Even so, that will not keep me away. This place is too wonderful!
Nice place but didnt see any wildlife besides birds
Cool place. Going to make sure to hit some of the trails this summer. The maple syrup exhibit today was really informative.
Nice nature walk :)
Great trails family friendly
Ground kept excellently. The one guy we met was super friendly. Trails well maintained. Avoid Hemlock Loop for now.
Caratunk is a good place to bird watch & walk/hike. There are lots of trails in the back of the main field.
Great place to hike with lots of wildlife and birds. Very quiet despite being close to the city.
This a great family friendly spot to hike. They are currently renovating the parking lot area and some other space for improvements for guests. Be sure to grab a map as some of the trails can be long for younger kids. Also - keep an eye open for wild turkeys - Ive seen groups of them on the paths!
Fun and gorgeous place to walk around! It was really muddy when we went though so be prepared to get your shoes dirty
Great place to take family for a walk in the woods. Nice marked trails.
I attended an indoor class hosted by the Audubon Society here. I learned a lot for a fair price and the refuge itself is beautiful
A nice wildlife refuge very close to home. The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked. A great spot for summer migrants.
Nice and quiet and peaceful and happy and adventurous.
Very calming and pristine place.. quiet, peaceful and magical. I saw a wild turkey, a large snapping turtle, bunnies and heard the song of many diverse bird species. The trails roam all about. Its a wonderful wildlife refuge...
Icy but a great walk
The trails were well-marked. It is a great deep woods feel yet great for beginners too.
Beautiful.
Beautiful place to walk but keep in mind there are no dogs aloud
Great trail! Enjoyed seeing the turkeys and spending time near the river.
Took small group of scouts on an hour long hike, the manager of the space opened the main structure to our group and gave us a few minutes worth of conversation on our experience, and some interesting facts regarding the wild life, trail conditions, and opportunities for the next visit. I could not have asked for more from the visit.
Nice hike
Great nature walks.
Great free spot to hike around. No real difficult trails, so good for kids as well.
Beautiful place to hike. One of my all time favorite places...️
Love biking here! Very quiet (in a good way) and beautiful trails
Not worth going out of ones way to visit, but for those in the area the trails through the woods are worth exploring. Expect mosquitos. Detailed maps available free of charge, and the trails are well marked. Free parking on site.
Ok ok
Nice hiking trails. Short and long. Not stroller friendly and no bathrooms.
It was beautiful here today. The hiking paths were varied - flat, hills, winding - which I like. Babbling brooks, fields. .. Id go again.
Trails well marked. No dogs. Short trails. Field, woods, ponds. No porta john.
An incredible experience for my 6 year old, nature loving son.
Brought my four kids there they had a blast going through all the trails it is very beautiful there
Great place for a nice peaceful walk threw the woods.
Fun hike with little ones, cant wait to go back!
Nice peaceful walking trails.
Wonderful hike for birding and nature seekers. Relatively easy with the exception of getting stuck in mud after a rainfall.
Great, peaceful trails and open meadows. Caratunk is tucked away, yet well maintained and spacious.
Great short hike with beautiful little bridges and creeks
