The wildlife is fantastic. Very relaxing. Trails to walk, a campground store for basic needs with bikes to rent and firewood. Well kept grounds. All kinds of stores within a 5-8 mile distance. Perfect for kids with bikes to explore and stretch their legs. I highly recommend to anyone who needs a change of scenery or a wonderful outdoor adventure. Come and enjoy the fresh air.

This is a great State Park! It has clean rest rooms and bathhouses, outside sinks especially for tent campers, lovely trails, a nice country store, bike rentals and really nice Rangers. The water is good and you will probably get some good phone signal. The only reason why I dont give this 5 stars is because the campsites are wonky and the electrical outlets are old so the polarity is off. The Ranger told us there wouldnt be any issue but were told to use the electricity from the campsite next to us until they came. Other than that it is beautiful but be aware there is plenty of wild life and we saw a few beautiful deer. The Country Store sell EVERGLADES MOPPING BBQ SAUCE which sells for $3.99 a bottle and on AMAZON its over $11.

Breathtaking park! Beautiful trails and the tree canopy on the park road is like something out of a fairy tale. Also, the park ranger who checked us in to our camp site was extremely helpful. I am very sorry I didnt get his name. We checked in on Monday, November 2 around 2:30 pm so Im hoping park management will know who he is. We will most definitely visit this jewel of a park again!

Upon arrival I was met by one of the most polite Rangers that I have ever met. She made me feel welcomed and went out of her way to assist me with my check in (a week long camping stay). This park is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. While some of the RV campsites and laid out a bit quirky, it works. Most sites are large and many sites are shaded. Good clean water and power. They dont have full hook-ups but do have a dump station for emptying your black and gray water tanks. During the week the park is wonderfully empty but was totally full on the weekend.... Met a bunch of really nice folks. There are several bathrooms with showers located through out the campground. There is a laundry area with coin operated washers and dryers along with a small camp store at the rangers station. The park was very clean and full of wildlife, including deer that walk about the property. Lots of trails to explore. I highly recommend that you spend a few days here to destress from everything in a very relaxing environment.

This for sure is one of our personal top five State Parks, campgrounds. There are plenty of hiking trails to choose from. Most of them short enough that even my disabled wife could master and enjoy them. We were able to take our dogs on all but two hikes also. That is not always a given. The staff and host were great too. Very friendly and helpful. Thank you Jason! The park must be home to a family of deer. They were all over the place and not shy at all. Very nice neighbors to have. The deer that is. Campers are always nice and friendly. Only on occasion you meet the acception. Upon arrival we found a hammock hanging in our site, right next to our fire pit. No big deal. Well, the owner not only left it hanging, he also came over to use it. Not only that, on day 2 my wife was outside in her zero gravity chair, when he came over and started smoking. Only a few feet away from her. He even ignored her plead to smoke somewhere else. For some reason he wasnt happy when I later politely asked him to take down his Hammock. But hey! It didnt stop us from enjoying this place. Isaiahs left us alone and we even added 2 days because we couldnt go to our next destination thanks to the storm. We will be back for sure. Reservation is already made.

This is a beautiful and amazing state park. We hiked two different main trails. The weather was perfect so we didn’t encounter a lot of bugs even though the one trail we hiked was a ‘swamp’. We came across a snake sun bathing but no other animals. The boardwalks were truly gorgeous. I loved the different styles they had. A little small if there was someone trying to go the other direction, more comfortable to cross these single file. The trees were very tall and provided lots of shade. If this park was closer I would be going every weekend. The reflections in the water was so clear and remarkable. No garbage. Each trail has limited parking so you didn’t come across too many people. All the plant life had beautiful color to them. This place was just incredibly satisfying to the eyes.

Highlands Hammock is one of my favorite Florida State Parks. The camping is great, with an adequate number of showers within a short walk. The facilities are clean and in great working order. The biggest reason is the park itself though. The hiking trails are awesome! Hikers can experience a walk through a swamp on one trail, a pine scrub on another, and several oak hammocks. You can see a wide variety of wildlife as well. On my most recent trip, we saw a large black bear, several deer and alligators.

Campground is wonderful. Even with just water and electric and a dump station, they have it well organized. There are sinks behind the showers for people to wash dishes and such instead of using their rigs grey tank. If your staying for a week or so, makes a big difference. More campgrounds should incorporate the idea.Trails are well maintained and fun to take either walking or biking. One this is the sites are very tight. I believe its due to the campground being older which back a spell rigs were not the size they are now.Other then that, nice place to camp. And rangers are professional and friendly.

Today we visited Highlands Hammock State Park, a 9,000 acre park near Sebring, Florida. The park opened in 1931 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. There are 9 foot trails, including an elevated boardwalk through a cypress swamp. We traveled half of them. The park is known for its beautiful old-growth hammock and thousand year old oaks. Ferns and air plants are abundant. Visitors may observe alligators, turtles, deer, birds and other wildlife. We were only lucky enough to see a dozen or so Ibis.

The Ranger said this was Flas oldest park. Restroom and showers were clean, trails were a lot of fun to hike, even in the June heat. Mosquitoes were almost non existent in the campground !!!! But on certain trails they were hungry. Bring an old campground, some of the hook ups could be challenging. The water and electrical hook ups were located either at the extreme rear of a campsite, or at the extreme front of a campsite, some reacquiring two 50 cords to reach. I would camp there again.

Also there were dish washing stations. The laundry facilities leave a bit to be desired, as several dryers were broken. It was $1 to wash, $1 to dry. There were many people waiting to do laundry. The trails are awesome. There are bike rentals available. The sites are rather close together and there are many trees to avoid as you move in and out.

Campground spots are tight but the park is awesome. This review is about the campground campsites. Site 82 is for 30 ft RV, but I dont recommend this site (and others) unless you have a small RV with extra cord to reach the electric. Many campsites are like this as there are many trees (to get in way of awning, slides and even storage opening) with low branches (were less than 10 ft high and the branches scrapped the roof) and hookups on the wrong side of the campsite, some in your neighbors campsite along with your fire ring :( No parking spots at the newer bath facility.
