Amazing show, great hosts and an all around fascinating walk through the life of Houdini. Wish we could spend a day just looking at all the displays and treasures! Easily enough content to spend a couple days if you want to view it all!

My wife, my son and my grandchildren (ages 12, 6 and 4) visited the Museum on November 23rd, 2019; we saw the show and the guided tour. It was absolutely wonderful; so very informative and also very personal. It was sold out that day, but because they limit each show to 50 people or less, everyone gets to feel they are part of it. My Grandson (6) was chosen to help out with some of the magic tricks, and he had a blast with Dorothy and Bravo. These folks are truly dedicated to keeping the living memory and spirit of Harry Houdini alive for all of the world to see. You can buy gifts, magic acts, books - and theyll autograph anything you purchase for free. I highly recommend visiting them at least twice, as there is so much to see and do you cant really get it all in one day. It is truly fun for the whole family.

My expectations where high so maybe why Im not giving higher. The show was to be real ghosts spirits but was acts of magic. A great magician but ghosts well I didnt see any. A few ghosts may reside there. The shop itself is fantastic. The magician knows his science and knowledgeable.

Went to a birthday party here. It was different because if the parents wanted to stay they had to pay 12$.... if they didnt want to pay they had to leave their children. My son said he had a good time. But I probably wont be back.

Truly unique experience. Proprietors are celebrated magicians who have dedicated themselves to preserving the amazing story of Houdinis life. Many fascinating stories about Houdinis life as well as Dorothy Dietrich, the First Lady of magic. Hats off to two great professionals Dorothy and Dick for an extraordinary collection of Houdini memorabilia and an awesome and entertaining presentation.

This is one of the best magic shows Ive seen anywhere including in Las Vegas. My boys especially loved the animals and of course the gift shop. Anytime we go back to Scranton to visit relatives they always want to come here!

This museum houses some great memoribilia from the Houdini era and Houdini himself. The show is a throwback to magic of the early to mid 1900s and can be enjoyed by the whole family. There is also a small magic shop that carries some very good items for beginners and hobbyists. Some renovations or remodeling are needed, but on the other hand possibly the ramshackle styling adds to the charm of this place.

I loved this place. The show was fun and the exhibits very detailed. You can tell this is a labour of love from the proprietors. There is a lot of detail here for those that are fellow Houdini lovers.

Nice if you want to see lots of Houdini memorabilia and the magic show was ok. The gentleman takes you into and talks about some of the history of Houdini in the first room & the lady talks about specific memorabilia in the second room. The rooms were a bit crowded at times as the standing space is limited. The gentleman is passionate about the history of Houdini, but his information was a little too much for some of the children and myself. Most of the time is spent in the 2 memorabilia rooms & the show is approximately a half hour.

We were planning a visit for this place but when we saw the rude response the establishment provided to one of the customers (see below Brittany C. for example), we changed our mind and decided not to give our businesses to these individuals. One can tell a lot by the way a business responds to their customers’ online feedback! It is a pity.

Fun atmosphere for my sons birthday party. The museum provided a nice party room with themed wall hangings that are changed based on childs age! They provided pizza, drinks, and bowls upon bowls of snacks and candy. After eating, our wonderful hostess snuck in with a cotton candy machine and all the kids got so excited. After the food and fun we were taken into the performance room where the hostess lead games like limbo and dance offs! THEN a private magic show, where the birthday boy was levitated! Amazing time and a great memory!!

Honestly the most boring and biggest waist of my family’s time. The whole time they were just trying to sell nonsense and random books. Not worth your 3 hours. All they truly want is your money and to waist your time. The only true magic here is the moment we got to walk out the door.

What a great way to spend and afternoon. Watching the rare footage of portions of Houdinis life was great. I really loved learning so many things about him that I never knew. Seeing all of the artifacts was wonderful too..but the magic show just topped everything off. Id been saying I was going to visit for years and Im glad I finally went.

Small museum with world class magic act at the end. I came away with an appreciation for Houdini and how huge he was back in the day and how his legacy has lived on. It was quite a bit of a time commit though. We got there at 1pm and left at 4:30pm. I didnt appreciate the sales pitch at the end for the magic related products they had for sale there. The kids got really tired by then. But the hosts of the show were fabulous, which made it tolerable.

This was a highly enjoyable and educational experience in a small group setting that starts with a short film with rare footage, followed by a guided tour of three rooms filled with a vast assortment of Houdini memoriabilla and finally a fantastic audience participation magic show. Dorothy Dietrich and Bravo the Great are very knowledgeable about all things Houdini and are both talented personable magicans who are eager and dedicated to keeping Houdini history alive. It was a captivating 3 hour event that I would recommend for small groups as well as both young and old. Well worth the 90 minute ride from NJ and just a few minutes from interstate 81. HOUDINI LIVES (at least in spirit and in Scranton!)

My kids loved this place! They loved the story, the museum stuff and the magic show at the end!! They were 7 & 10.I, on the other hand, thought it was too expensive for what it was. It was cramped to the point you had to side step around things. The show was great!! It was entertaining enough for me not to be too upset about the price. And the kids really did have a wonderful time! The couple who own the place were very kind. They engaged with the kids and answered questions. Noone was left out.

If you’re interested in seeing the real America, the kind of America that isn’t centered around an amusement park, then the Harry Houdini Museum should be on your list. It’s a small, one-of-a-kind museum run by Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brookz in Scranton PA. It’s a converted house in a residential area so be careful not to drive right by looking for a big, commercialized attraction. But inside is everything you’d ever expect in a museum dedicated to Houdini. Dorothy and Dick scour the Earth looking for any bit of genuine Houdini memorabilia from the actual equipment he used in his tricks (such as an actual milk can fron his most famous escapes) to genuine theater programs detailing his life as it was recorded during his lifetime. The museum houses the most complete Houdini collection anywhere. The Houdini Museum is more than just a walk-through, 25-cent tour. Its proprietors, as well as providing a magic show for its patrons, take great care in preserving the Houdini legend in the most factual manner possible. They told us as much about Harry Houdini the man as they did about Harry Houdini the magician and it is a most fascinating story about a most fascinating individual. I came away with much more respect for this entertainer, entrepreneur and most honorable American.Operating the museum is a labor of love for Dietrich and Brookz. I doubt they are wealthy people because of it, but they pour their hearts and souls into keeping alive the Houdini legacy and history for us all. The Houdini Museum is truly an American treasure but one that will not last forever. Maybe in a generation it will not be here anymore replaced by a Disney-fied version of Houdini complete with all the embellishments of a comic book hero cleansed of any trace of his real humanity. I fear that once the museum is gone, Houdini himself will be permanently lost so please plan on seeing it soon. With that all said, I obviously give the Harry Houdini Museum two thumbs up. It’s a genuine slice of America and the perfect afternoon diversion from the theme park scene. Yes, they will offer things like for purchase (we bought a deck of magic cards and a reproduction theater program - both very reasonably-priced) but you can rest assured that every dollar you spend there goes directly back into keeping the museum going.

Dont recommend waste of money the magic show is cute for kids but very overpriced, they charged $20 for a 3 year old and spent 3 hours talking into a microphone that didnt work about how famous they are/were and showing what they claim to be real objects Houdini used or wore etc. I love magic and do NOT recommend I left feeling legitimately robbed.
