Glad to have experienced the FLW + students art. Everything is custom designed; chairs, tables, lamps.. Timeless art, I wish and hope there will be more effort on maintaining it. A few places have been neglected. Still worth viewing before its completely gone or redone with a modern view. Very inspiring.
Audio guided tour when you download the app. They will provide instructions after you buy the tickets. Easy walk and only takes an hour at most to tour the home. Highly recommended if you are majoring in design/architectural design.
Was very interesting and insightful. I can only imagine what it was like to build Talisman West back in the day? Went home and ordered two books about FLW.I want to know more
What fun place for architecture and history buffs. Who would have guest Frank Loyd Weight wintered here in his later years. The volunteer guides were knowledgeable and professional. The gift shop carries unique gifts inspired by Wright’s designs. We walked away with scarves and Christmas ornaments. And, we gained a new appreciation for Wright’s gifted contribution to modern art that we actually live in.
Wonderful tour! My husband (general contractor) and I were very excited to be there, and take the tour. Very interesting concepts in building. Highly recommend!!
Absolutely beautiful beautiful place and well worth the cost to go in . Our tour guide she was wonderful and full of knowledge.
While traveling on business I had a little time and decided to take a guided tour. This is the first FLW house I have toured and now want to visit the others. The tour guides passion is evident through their story telling and vast knowledge. I learned a ton! The gift shop has some very unique items and I was able to pick up something for everyone at home.
A wonderful experience. I recommend Martha as your tour guide. She was fun and knew her stuff. The tickets are a bit expensive. The museum has some pretty good things/books to buy so make sure you check it out. I went in March and the weather is perfect.
This is the 5th time i have gone and always a great tour.
What a spectacular site! Driving down the lane and viewing the wild dessert landscape filled me with anticipation. As we passed the gate with Taliesin West impressed in concrete, the view of a few buildings rose into view. Then at the flagpole the parking court and main building greeted us.At the time we visited the tour rate was $40 per person. The tour lasted about an hour twenty minutes. They offer rolling walkers which were very helpful for me grandfather. All said, this place is a FLW must-see and well worth the time and cost!
Very stimulating cultural point of interest in the middle of the desert. The tour guides (ours was Mandi) are super knowledgeable and also casual, which is a balance hard to pull off.
Great way to spend a few hours in Phoenix! Fantastic insight into Wright’s work in a stunning location. Tickets are a bit pricey ($35 for the 90 minute tour), but well worth it considering all the info you’re getting. All the tour guides are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and fully able to answer any questions you may have.
A truly remarkable example of blending architecture with the local environment. Using the desert as his palette, Frank Lloyd Wright has crafted a true to the location design for his own winter home. A lot of his usual elements from the Prairie style still exist but this is such a unique place because of the materials used. Good tour guides and well kept up by his foundation. A lovely gift shop to pick up souvenirs as well. Worth the detour. A must-see for any Wright fan!
Kinda disappointing. I love art and architecture and have a very high capacity for intellectual experiences. I was hoping to enjoy some architectural craftsmanship and design, and though I can appreciate the historical significance of this space, due to the nature of the design it is in rather drab disrepair. Even though our guide was excellent, (probably the best part of this tour) the building itself is no masterpiece - perhaps purposefully so. If Frank Lloyd Wright imagined Taliesin West as a space that would eventually crumbly back into the landscape from which it emerged - then indeed this place has fulfilled its destiny.
Frank Lloyd Wright never disappoints, Taliesin west is an incredible experience, to sit and ponder where he and his apprentices did the same. The structures are beautifully, quirky, and charming. Learning more about Wright toward the end of his life was really cool. Solid time!
Best part was our tour guide. Well informed, great presenter conveyed the story of the place, its people, and its ideas. We got the basic tour and saw outside and inside around seven buildings.
Absolutely stunning and the guide was very informative!
Very interesting. Totally enjoyed this walking tour. Frank Lloyd Wright was a fantastic architect.
We had a great tour guide named Jim, he was entertaining and very informative. This is a very interesting place and has beautiful views. I highly recommend it.
Super interesting tour with a great guide. Its such a joy to visit this special place in the desert. Theres much you can learn about architecture. Unfortunately its not possible to visit the grounds without a tour.If possible book your tickets in advance as there are many visitors and your desired tour might be sold out.
What an awesome experience! Our guide was Don, very knowledgeable and detail oriented, we even went over out allotted tour time because he was so detailed, I loved that. So much to see, sadly they dont show you everything. Go in early October when the apprentices are gone, you can see more. I would love to do the night tour, Im sure that is amazing as well.
My first time at a Frank Lloyd Wright house and it did not disappoint. They views.of the home and surrounding area were great. Our tour guide was excellent and friendly. I would highly recommend stopping here if you are in Phoenix or Scottsdale.
Very interesting architecture in a beautiful desert setting. Guided tour is the only way one can see the site and is well worth it. The site one of Wrights homes is interesting and illustrates his design concepts. A must see.
Gorgeous night tour. Beginning at 5:30, the sunset was exceptional. Toured 25 years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing different places: the gathering rooms, performing space, the private bedrooms and most especially, the incredible, underground Cabaret. Next time, hopefully soon, the Desert Shelters. Great tour guide.
I was happy to learn that Frank Lloyd Wright’s School of Architecture at Taliesin and Taliesin West will continue. Established in 1932, Taliesin has been home to over 1,200 architects who furthered the practice of “Organic Architecture.”Attending events and taking tours enhanced my appreciation of how Wright and the school impacted architecture in many ways. If you have a chance, take a tour while visiting Scottsdale.
Good tour, however for late in day tour it would have been good to have more lighting to see
Interesting Tour - initially thought the $40 fee was a lot but the tour was worth it it your a architectural fan - many different tour guides so I would like the quality of the tours varies with who you get. Many insights to frank LW and his groupies - and even some bad design decisions from my point of view - dont miss it
Visited on Discovery Day, it was a treat!! The self guided tour had many stops with staff that gave great information and details about Taliesin West and Frank Lloyd Wright’s life. The entire property was beautiful . Don’t miss this lovely venue.
I’ve lived here for decades and never went until today. Wish I would’ve come earlier!Lori, our guide, was amazing. Not only did she know a lot of super interesting details but she had so much passion for Frank Lloyd Wright and the history of Taliesin West that it came through with each story she told.A worthwhile tour for locals and tourists!
Taliesin West is a wonderful place to visit. To be able to walk thru the spaces where FLW worked and lived is awe inspiring. The setting of the location is beautiful. Even if you dont have an interest in architecture, you will find something to like here. An afternoon well spent.
Great architectural home in the desert! Its great to experience the history of this timeless masterpiece in Scottsdale. The stories of FLWs exploits are wonderful. It is a definite must see if you are in Scottsdale.
This is an exceptionally good tour, especially if Martha is your tour guide. FLW described himself as the greatest architect in America, and Taliesin West helps confirm that assessment. Well worth seeing!
Had super low expectations for an old home / architectural tour at a pretty steep price. Far exceeded that -- very interesting spot with small college, beautiful sunsets, historical treasures. Our host was terrifically entertaining - -full of great stories -- why, he met Frank Lloyd Wright! This is definitely a highlight for Phoenix and the valley -- well worth your time! Come at night!!
WOW! What an amazing tour! The staff were incredibly accomodating and friendly! Parking is ample and well marked plus there is a kiosk on property to buy a tea, coffee or snack before your tour begins. Of course there is a gift shop where you can buy all sorts of goodies before you depart. The tour is roughly an hour and a half and there is a lot of slow walking, stopping and listening plus a large part of the tour is outside so bring sunscreen if you burn easily. Once inside, the AC will keep you cool. Just a suggestion, if you can leave the kiddos at home while you tour, that would be a good idea as there arent enough things to keep them entertained. Overall, a fascinating tour and one I will take again in the future.
Great tour! Guide was very knowledgable. I came half a day late because of flights and they were accommodating to get me in their schedule.
What and amazing experience. Ive been to a few FLW sites in the US and this is by far the best. Sign up for the three hour tour and you will not be disappointed. Our tour guide was Mary M and she was superb!!
Exceptional place to visit. Buildings to tour and admire and a great sculpture garden.
Great museum and nice tours! Loved everything about it and I very much recommend it.
Just amazing! The tour was amazing! Really makes you appreciate all the work and dedication that was done here. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful building, and a very nice tour. A must see if you are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.
Bought tickets for the Night Tour the day of in the off-season (late July) and had no trouble doing so. My girlfriend and I have gone on many architectural and historical tours, so we had an idea of what to expect but this experience was unlike anything we’ve been through. Both of us agreed it was the best architectural tour we’ve ever gone on. Amazing stories about Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin West you can’t hear anywhere else or find online. Plus, drinks and mints served halfway through, beautiful sunset views, a chance to play Frank Lloyd Wright’s piano, sitting breaks that allow you to utilize furniture FLW designed, and a fiery ending, which I won’t give more details on, so I don’t spoil it for those interested. We had George as our tour guide. The stories he has preserved and retells about FLW and his personal anecdotes helped make the experience enthralling, surprising, and inspiring.
Excellent tour guide. I really learned a lot! This place is well worth the trip to see it.
Frank Lloyd Wright. Need I say more. This is more than a home but a tight little complex in 600 acres. It currently houses the Frank Lloyd Wright Masters in Architecture program . The tour shows show many unique features that flowed from the mind of Mr. Wright. Amazing, Beautiful, Gorgeous, Thought Provoking! Worth the trip. Buy tickets online before you go!
This architectural gem is a World Heritage Site. Hidden from the busy valley in the McDowell Mountain region. Love to just contemplate how wonderfully isolated this was in Frank Lloyd Wrights time.
We take friends and family here when they visit while were here for the winter months. Its truly an opportunity to step back in time to experience the work and mindset of Frank Lloyd Wright. The tours and membership are overpriced, but whenever we visit the tour groups are large, so I guess visitors dont mind.
Visiting Taliesin West was a fantastic experience with a tour that guided you around and discussed the key aspects of many of the design features. Ive always have appreciated Frank Lloyd Wrights architecture designs, and the tour allowed me to get into his head and better understand the rational and reasoning for many design features FLW has left us. If you are in the Phoenix area, take a 1/2 day and tour Taliesin West, you wont be disappointed.
I really love this place. I bring my friends and family when they visit. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly I always give them a Tip at the end of the tour to show my families appreciation. The price of the tour is a little pricey for a non-profit. Ive worked for nonprofits before and they dont pay their staff very well I hope some of that ticket price goes to them. I would have gave it five stars if it wasnt for the price of the tour.
We loved our tour guide Mandy! She was so informative and paced the tour perfectly. The tour itself gave great incite into Wright not only as an architect, but his little (or not so little) personality quirks as well. I would strongly recommend touring this odd, interesting space!
Astonishing art, architecture and history. Our tour guide was great.
Disappointing. Took the 90 min tour here and you basically only see a couple of underwhelming buildings. The tour is painfully long (very well presented, but the information didnt intrigue me). If I had a coupon to go back for free, I wouldnt.
It was wonderful. Beautful walks on the trails love the layout.
A really great experience! So much history, and getting the back story on Frank Lloyd Wrights personally is so much fun
Visit requires guided tour, essential to really getting to see and learn. Is a functioning school of architecture started by Frank Lloyd Wright as a way to supplement income.Filled with beautiful spaces, furniture and gives a wonderful insight to an American genius of architecture and style.
Unless you pay for the $40 tour, you wont see much here except for the overpriced gift shop. Seems to be a tourist trap at its finest. That said, Wrights architecture is stunning and the visit here has potential to be a lot more enjoyable if the price of entry wasnt so steep.
Awesome Experience!! Loved it and our tour guide Sergio was on point! Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone in AZ no matter if you are visiting or live here. Very informative and educational and beautiful of course! AZ
Great tour! Enjoyed being able to actually sit on the furniture. Also enjoyed learning the history of the place and learning the reasons he designed some of the areas the way he did.
Emily is the best beautiful person and a wonderful place!!!!
Even if you are not a fan of Frank Llyod Wright (or dont know who he is) you should stop by this tour. I think this is one of the best places in Phoenix. The peaceful grounds offer an oasis in the foothills as you take in the organic creativity of the buildings and nature. Take the basic insight tour (it is a bit pricey but the money goes to the foundation) which is about an hour and half. The tour goes from space to space with a couple opportunities to sit down. I would say its best for kids no younger than 14. Plenty of opportunities for pictures. The cafe is not your standard cafe, sandwhichs and basic stuff but nothing for a full sit-down lunch.
The incredible tour of this incredible place brought alive the work and life of Frank Lloyd Wright. What makes this place even more special is that it is a living breathing place of work where you can sit on the furniture and peruse through the books. A must visit if you are in the Phoenix area.
I couldnt afford the tour, so I didnt get a chance to see much of the property. Its nice, I guess, that at the least the gift shop is open to all. It would be nicer (and a five star facility) if they had more discount options, or just lowered their entry slightly. I realize the local demographic (Scottsdale; retired folks) of visitors might end up justifying how much the property can charge, but its still a barrier for some.
FLW (courtesy of apprentices labor) took the stuff of the ground and made it into poetry. Taliesin West is poetic. Inspired, I have since visited FLW’s other properties. Arizona Biltmore is one such gem near Taliesin West.
We did the 90 minute tour and really enjoyed it. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Yes, we would recommend this tour.
Frank was a visionary or visited by aliens. I played a few cords on his piano in the large living room and an electric current went through my arms. Beautiful, wonderful experience.
We had about 12 or 15 people on our tour - small enough so that we could ask additional questions. Extremely informative and pretty cool to hear the how the building changed throughout the history of Wright’s time there.
Enjoyed our tour of Taliesin West. We knew very little about Frank Lloyd Wright before coming and we left wanting to learn more about him. Our tour guide was thorough, interesting, and friendly. We hope to visit other Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the future.
The night tour is a magical time at Taliesin. We were able to watch a lunch of satellites out in California from the deck. Tour was great and snacks were very welcome. A one in a million places to visit.
Tours are not cheap but can be found for cheaper than on site if you buy them ahead of time. Despite the price, they are entertaining and educational. Definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful spaces, terrible tour and guide. We were not able to spend any time in spaces other than to hear a lecture about honestly random and disconnected bits of FLW personal history. Almost no information about the architecture itself.I have been looking forward to seeing this place my entire life, and it was ruined in 90 short minutes by a constant stream of consciousness guide and rushed along through the building.I would do the tour if you know nothing about FLW or love Dad jokes.
Touring Taliesin West was an incredible experience. Being from WI Ive toured many of FLWs buildings in the Midwest and around the country and this was kind of the final spot I had yet to visit. I was in Phoenix for a few days and stopped by on a whim when I had a few hours to kill—I was able to buy a ticket for the tour that started in 5 minutes. While the entry price is a little steep, its definitely worth it as you embark on a 90 minute tour (ours actually went a little longer). I wish I could remember the name of my guide as he was simply exceptional—very knowledgeable and very funny. He had a nice balance of anecdotes from FLWs life, the engineering and architecture of the space, and was able to answer even some more obscure questions. The stories of FLW escaping the Wisconsin winters by coming down to Arizona really rang true for me as I was doing the exact same thing! Cant recommend this place enough!
I had seen from the outside but never been inside a Frank Lloyd Wright house. We did the basic house tour with an experienced doyen who was able to provide the big picture about the Wright style of architecture as well as point out how he carried his style through to the minutia. She also gave an interesting history of how this facility was used as a training ground for students of the Wright style. Well maintained property still in use as an architecture school-we could see the students working but were not permitted in their work area so as to not disturb.
Gorgeous way to take in architecture even if youre not familiar with FLW. Breathtaking views and I feel like I couldve stayed an extra hour just looking at every intricate detail. We took the three hour tour and time just flew by, so many interesting and fun facts about FLW.
Great tour of an amazing compound from the master FLW
Today we visited this site and spent $40 each to view and learn about the facility. To our horror the guide could not remember all the facts and guests were correcting her. Then she said she didnt feel well and through up. We got another guide who was great, however we were put into a room that had another group and their guide said she was ill. This is unacceptable. No one should have to be exposed to the flu when you are visiting a site.
We toured Taliesin West on Friday January 24th for a night tour. Our tour guide (we were on the orange tour) was unprofessional and was very hard to understand. He didnt give us much detail on the buildings and the entire tour was very disappointing. After the tour we were given a drink ticket to enjoy a drink on the patio. It was chilly out and they only had one heater going which forced us to finish our drink inside at the book shop. I would skip Taliesin and tour the Biltmore instead. The tour was a big disappointment!
Fantastic tour . Do take the time to go if you are in the area. I took 3 others with for the 6:30 night tour in July . I am interested in FLW architecture and they were somewhat interested enough to join me . One was a local PhoenicianWhen we left everyone thanked my so much for planning the tour and talked about how interesting it wasSome of the local references were new to the one local AZ person in our group of four, and that person really enjoyed the knowledge our tour guide shared with him.We all were still talking about it the next morning when we met, and they said they also would recommend it to others . We all enjoyed the intimate 2 hour tour -maybe about 8-10 people total and they have a good gift shop to explore.
The tour was super informative and the guide was very engaging with our group. We went in the summer time and they are very intentional to keep you cool and out of the sun as much a possible. I had no idea Wright invented so many things!
Great little tour. No prior knowledge of FLW needed, though youll get a lot more out of it with at least a passing interest in fine architecture.
Amazing. I would recommend getting tickets in advance. Well worth the price of admission.
Did The Insights Tour and had a blast. Very informative and very interesting even if youre not a Frank Lloyd Wright buff.
Very much worth the visit even for those with little architectural interest. The tour is an informative if not a little skewed toward hero-worshiping look at this titan of American design.
Great tour. Well worth it. History at its finest.
I had a real good time in here.I love the art displayed in this place its just amazing!
Great place to spend time with family but some facilities were not functioning.
Indescribable monument to a great architect. There is something beautiful and inspiring for everyone.
A must-see for FLW enthusiasts. Key to understanding his love of the west and this chapter of his life. My husband and thought it was very good. We were the youngest ones on it by at least 30 years but it was wonderful :) You get to go inside many of the rooms including his & Olgas own (separate) bedrooms. The gift shop is also very good and quite extensive- I picked up some FLW needlepoint kits that Id never seen anywhere else!
90 minutes wasnt enough for this tour. if youre really into this kind of stuff, i would recommend going on the night 3-hour tour. the tour guide was extremely educational and entertaining. this place really plays with your perspective. only regret is that we didnt spend more time there, highly recommend this tour.
This is more than a home but a tight little complex in 600 acres.
Im not an architecture person but this was still amazing to me. Highly recommended.
This historic property is a must visit. Learn a little bit about American History, Architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Excellent tour given by Mandi today!!! My first time there, and Ill be bringing friends and family back to experience this!
Amazing to see the birth place of so much of our modern architecture. Tour guide was very enthusiastic, but I often felt there were points she could have elaborated on or she assumed our knowledge of the history was higher than it was.
Fabulous tour even if you are not yet a fan of Frank Lloyd Wrights work. The tour is fairly pricey, but very much worth it. We took the 1.5 hour tour, and our guide stretched it an extra 15 minutes, which was great. Cant say enough about our tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and encouraged questions and dialogue. Id take one of the other tours offered there in a heartbeat.
Fantastic informative tour! And Paula is an amazing tour guide.
A no.1 must-go in Phoenix. Just great architect and architecture.
Great place to visit! A tour guide is required to explore the area. Its 1.5 hours long and takes you throughout the property. Very informational and I learned a lot. The tour is indoors and outdoors so dress accordingly.
We tried to go with my family and there was no room, that itself was not the problem. We tried to take a picture and the lady at the front of the house just started yelling at us and demanding that since we were not in a tour we could not go in the public space. We saw signs 20 ft away saying do not pass, and all that was in front of us was dirt. She was also very rude to another couple that tried to go and purchase tickets as we were leaving. My mom politely asked why we could not go in this space and she was just yelled at.
Very Impressive! I really didnt know what to expect. Was not a cheap tour, but I really enjoyed it. FLW was a very interesting man. I recommend it.
A wonderful treasure. Grateful its open to the public.
