Today was my first time using the ymca and I went to a HIIT class. The staff and instructors here are so pleasant and helpful! They are so devoted to making sure you succeed in your health goals! The gym its self is extremely clean and filled with plenty of equipment so that you are not waiting to use something. There are classes for all ages and styles of fitness offered here! It made me just want to spend the entire day there and take all the classes! The childcare is great and trustworthy! I highly recommend spending the extra dollar to join the ymca! You won’t be disappointed.

The YMCA near Potter park need to shut down. I wanna give this a 0 stars. Me and my sister walk in the rain to get our lunch today. I dont mind being alittle soak since we live close. Well we went inside to get our lunches at 11:30 pm. It started pouring so bad so my sister went and ask a staff if we can stay and eat our lunches so I food dont get soak. The lady said Sorry not allowed but u can go wait outside. It was pouring rain outside and they were telling us to wait outside. The staff there is super rude. And the summer camps there. If you are going to send your kid there go find a fun summer camp. The staff there is super rude to the kids. They yell at them, cant talk to other kids, and be rude to them if they ask to go somewhere. At the park they are always on there phone and not paying any attention to them. So if your kids get hurts that because the staff on there phone then watching the kids. Please dont come to this YMCA and waste your time to the rude staff.

I enjoy using the Potters Park Ymca, for the most part.  I used to Asst manage  a gym up north, so I have just a little critique . As much as I enjoy the members and cleanliness of your facility, I dont understand why its so difficult to find personal trainers in your club . I never see any on the exercise  floor.  I did recently ask one of the ladies that checked us in and she said there should be someone on the floor.  I honestly never have seen one.  I can tell you, we made good money at my gym with P T.  Almost always, we had at least one trainer on the workout floor, training someone and you people have WAY more members than my place ever did.  Other than that,  ( which is important) Im generally pleased with you people and the Y.

My wife and I have been going here for 8 years. We like the place even after they took the water park away. Now the board has decided to close this y on Sept 13! I dont know how they can lose money. They say they have lost 6000 members but I doubt that? I heard today that the board gets paid over $800,000! I dont know if that is true but if it is then that is the problem! I also heard someone made an offer to the board they could not turn down! Not sure of all that is true?

Unfortunately the Sarasota Y is poorly managed anymore. Management justifies their poor decisions and evades the problems. Repairs take forever. Pool hours are extremely limited. They now close down the pool to members for childrens swim lessons, expecting members to rearrange their schedules. Many of the staff are clueless or they give you a hard time. Sickened by how much this place has changed. They dont care how badly they impact members with all the recent changes and how they treat members. Upper management needs to drastically cut back their salaries as a non profit organization, instead of all the devastating cut backs that grossly affect members.

We have been coming here for swim lessons. We wanted a specific swim instructor who teaches here and that is the reason we drove across town for this place. While we like the teacher, the rest of the ymca is unimpressive. It’s very disorganized (why do we sign in on a completely hand written sheet of notebook paper every class? Do they not have a printed roster? They didn’t seem to know who was in what class either. It’s indoors, but we constantly have to get out of the pool or reschedule for lightning within so many miles. And if you can’t make the make up time, well too bad. They do not have enough seating for parents. Two small benches to accommodate two classes worth of kids or you have to sit back where you can’t see anything at all or on the floor. The staff is so so. I’ve had both great and just barely passible experiences with them. I guess I expected a little more professional organization that’s nationally recognized.

My son had swim lessons, bronze. 8 classes. Its a waste. Some of the instructors are great, but the one my son had was no good. She was great... if you kid already knew most of the basics. If you kid is a slower learner and needs even 20 seconds more, dont bother. Most of his time the swim instructor has pulled him around the pool and back to the steps. While other kids get a few minutes for each turn, how turns last about 20 seconds. At the end they all jump into the water, one at a time to the instructor. My sons been given a hand or 2 to jump in each time. He finally WANTS to do it on his own(and I told him I would give him an extra sticker if he was able to, but that if need be to take the instructors hand). RIGHT when he steps up to his turn hes told to grab her hand. He jumped in the first time. The second time, he was a bit nervous, given 10 more seconds he probably could have done it on his own. Instead the instructor raised her voice to him and kept rushing him and he broke down crying, instead of letting him join the group by walking into the water, she said that was enough-which made him more upset. Youre working with KIDS. Theres a time and a place for a stern tone, this was not one of them. 4:45 is when the class ends-at 4:55 we walked out of the bathroom after getting him dressed, the instructor was still in the water with the other kids who pretty much know how to swim already. Theres no reason for her not giving him a minute to jump in on his own. Well be paying to get into the Arlington pool from now on. I wish we would have done that to begin with. The $100+ on the YMCA wasnt worth it. Well be skipping the last class, theres no point in watching him be dragged off the step and back on(learning nothing), and then ending it with his instructor making him cry, again, because she cant spare one precious minute on a kid that wants to do SOMETHING on his own for once.

Lower prices. a lot of reasonable facilities. Very clean and well kept. Fair weight room. My big complaint is the weight room is very cold. Cool is fine for aerobics areas, but the weight lifting room should be warm and not have AC blasting like a walk-in cooler. Mainly a bunch of clueless old men taking up space and trying to lift like they did 40 years ago.

Im a long time member of the Potter Park Y and sorry to say its maintenance is going downhill. The sign at the entrance has been broken for months. It would suggest there is an empty rundown property lying ahead. The landscaping also suggests its a vacant property. The leaves and trash in the parking lot is never cleaned up. Inside needs more attention also. It takes forever for equipment to be repaired. Headphone jacks on treadmills are a big problem. Its just sad for me to see this wonderful community asset getting rundown. If you want to increase membership then you need to make the facility more appealing to the public.

I moved to Sarasota 7 months ago, first time ever no Planet Fitness close enough to go to.The WMCA is walking distance from where I live.So I signed up at the YMCA. I have had other Y memberships in different states and cities.First disappointment came when I went for a visit to NY, I travel often and I figured I would be able to use other Y facilities as a guest. Nope this place is one of the few that are not registered nationally. When I asked about it I was told that they are providing more services than other YMCAs or something. The only difference between this place and others I could find is that they provided towels. That is, up to now they did. Today one of the employees quite unfriendly, mildly put it, told me that people have been stealing their towels and no more towels. She gave me a flier that states starting Nov 1st you have to bring your own towels. Today is October 29th.I am very disappointed in the way I was being treated. I will be looking around for another gym!

It would be great, if the building was maintained properly. So many things need repair. Also, the parking lot has lots of debris (some of it has been there for a year) and the landscape needs tlc. Otherwise, the classes are great.

Generally I have had a good experience but today Sunday I had a spinning instructor who had little to no tolerance for a beginner spinner. She stated I had to keep up with the class. I stated I do the my best to keep up. I finally left the class as the music was so loud it hurt my ears. A staff member working the desk was so polite when I discussed the issue and stated he was sorry. When an employee does not enjoy her job it shows it attitude and words.

So 85% of the reason Im a member is because of their indoor volleyball. Our normal playing time is 11 to 2. Today because there was no school they said we could play 11 to 1 which is normal when school is out thats fine except we started at 11:40 played one game and then a lady that is not part of the staff said that we have to quit then we told her that they told us we can play until 1. So she went and got this staff member whose name was Marion and she came and told us we have to quit. I thought ymca pride themselves in treating everybody fairly?? When obviously this Marion was friends with that lady and gave her preferred treatment. Marion should be removed from her position if she is going to give some people preferential treatment over others!!

Both my boys and dozens of our friends have taken lessons from the YMCA. They are fantastic.!!!! They divide the kids up in small groups with an instructor in each group. The instructors are changed around every single week. so you might get a different person each week. But each child receives a lesson to which they are put into. Go, learn to swim. its never too early to have your child to learn how to swim!

Constantly shaking her head and rudely saying no a constant times. Very rude to us as customers and was not helpful in explaining anything whatsoever. Was overall a poor experience and customer service from Marcia was terrible.

This place is a rat hole. Such poor lighting and so cramped, it makes you feel like its dirty whether it is or not. The staff tolerate having to deal with you, but dont expect to be made welcome or to be appreciated. I signed up for a one-day guest pass but they didnt bother to mention that THEY DONT HAVE ANY FRIGGIN LOCKERROOMS! (Closed for renovations for a couple of weeks, but Im sorry, even brand new lockerrooms wont be enough to make this place tolerable.) The Venice Y, by contrast, is showing its age somewhat, too, but it and the staff there are SO much more pleasant.

The swim team is great, gym is great, I will say that there have been a few times though I was NOT impressed with the childcare..... Sometimes phenomenal, other times, seems like the staff could care less, specifically the same group of young women.... there are some great ones, and some not so great.. ..you will figure it out ie....my 3 year old is potty training, one actually said well if you put her in diapers ummm NO I will not do that for your convenience, dont like it maybe you should utilize your skills somewhere else.... happy to help change her but do not ever approach me and tell what I should do with my potty training 3 year old....
