This school; while aesthetically appealing, is in reality far from the image they are attempting to portray.Covid update:The online schooling has been completely inconsistent and frankly unprofessional. When the online schooling started In the spring, the work load was absolutely unmanageable. The amount of work assigned to a second grade student was equivalent to what the students would be receiving in class, however it was now the parent’s full time job to act as teacher. Fast forward to this fall’s semester and it seems the school, or district has taken the opposite approach. My daughter would finish her school work before noon on most days, and the “zoom” class conferences would be randomly canceled without notice.Pre Covid:Our daughter experienced bullying, classroom favoritism, an incompetent office staff, and one particular teacher that was completely oblivious to her student’s needs. My daughter also witnessed students choking other students with no repercussions, and was ultimately quieted when she spoke up.After talking with my daughter about her initial experiences, I was shocked to hear that some of the older students would bully younger students in the bathrooms during class. Imagine 6th, 7th, and 8th graders bullying 2nd graders... On top of that, my daughter’s class was only allowed to communicate with “non-verbal cues” to the teacher. This as you can imagine; can potentially stunt a child’s willingness or ability to communicate openly, especially if they have a problem or an emergency. When I was a kid, you would raise your hand or could simply walk to the teachers desk if you had an immediate need (such as using the restroom). We were encouraged to seek a communication platform with our teachers so that no questions were left unanswered. Now students are sent back to their desks before even opening their mouths, and told to sit quietly, raise their hand, and wait to be noticed. With a classroom of 20+ students I find it hard to believe this is an effective way of communicating. Especially with second graders.Worth mentioning:The ceramics program teacher is spectacular, as well as many of the other specialty program teachers.
It’s where I work so it must be awesome!!
I have been in this school for my k-8th years and I think it’s amazing
Finally complete! Weve been waiting, but it has a real temporary-structure appearance to it.
Love my school
