Simon Factor shows his work and other local artists in this small gallery in a nest of small galleries in the SOFA District ( South of A... cutesy). This area is a local treasure, with perhaps a dozen small galleries and ateliers. This is part of Factors SANTA ROSA ART CENTER, a terrific idea, a way to connect the community with artists of every persuasion, competency level, style, and price range. The problem is that neither Chroma Gallery nor other galleries are open on a consistent basis, so they make it harder on the consumer (or browser) than it needs to be. One website says its open Thursday - Sunday, with irregular hours, often closing between 2 and 4 in the afternoon. ??The Santa Rosa Arts Center offers classes for children and adults, AND there is a back stage for occasional concerts, parties, and community events. Its across from surprisingly good restaurant Spinster Sisters. This is the area where the WinterFest (decorated) SOFA parade is held every year in November or December, and the parade can be a hoot.A new coffee house is opening soon, although you may have to hunt down one of several back alleys to find it. There are multiple buildings in this art center, many off back alleys. The signage either doesnt exist or is confusing, so be persistent, and keep lookingA few artists are more accomplished than their prices would suggest. Ive picked up a couple of terrific pieces for short money, and Ive always told them to raise their prices.... as I leave with my treasure under my arm. Altogether a pleasant place to meander and spend a couple of hours, and sometimes a couple of bucks
