While we absolutely love this place, just a note of caution we took our 7 month old in a baby carrier because we were meeting friends. They asked us for $30 at the gate ($10 for the three of us), I asked nicely if I really needed to pay for my 7 month old and they gave me a snarky response of why wouldnt you. While I dont mind the donation part, I didnt appreciate the attitude. So just as a warning, you will be asked to pay for each person going in.

We went last December in 2019. We enjoyed visiting the farm and hugging as many animals as we could! Since becoming Vegan in July 2019, I wanted me and my kids to become more familiar with other animals. We are now aware that all animals are the same. Dogs, cows, pigs, cats, turkeys!!

This place is a hidden little gen in so cal. There various animals to interact with, the staff are friendly, reasonable donation fees, and great animal discussions. You automatically smile once you get in because almost every animal wants your affection. Their vegan selection in their food area is good. You can buy carrots to feed the horses/donkeys. HUG THE COWS! I will say we had a small issue during our visit and Jay addressed our concerns. 5 star experience

Beautiful, beautiful place! Its a lovely calm place for rescued animals, and they deliver a really nice experience by allowing people to get close to their animals and hold, pet, and hug them. Every animal has a story, though heartbreaking. Its a great learning experience for what goes on in the meat industry, as well as just wholesome. I highly recommend coming here at least once in your life. You will not regret it!

Went there for their Thanksgiving to celebrate living. I love having been a long time supporter snd so very thrilled to finally visit with them. To visit with & meet many Friends both Animal & Human. The evening, atmosphere & meal were spectacular but just one thing had hoped the drum ceremony had been of an authentic Indigenous nature. Love being Vegan & so honored being a part of this great Sanctuary as we are full of love & the love of educating & caring for Animals, People & our Earth. Being Vegan together is the only way to heal our Earth, stop global warming, stop mass killings of Ocean & land wildlife, domestic Animals, too!! It was such a priviledge meeting Ellie & to share in that common goal to love, heal & continue developing the most delicious, healthiest, most humane lifestyles, ever!! Thank you GB, Ellie, & all the Volunteers. God Bless, love & hugs!!

If you havent visited, you need to make it happen. This place is awesome. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The entire experience is educational; each animal has a story behind its journey to The Gentle Barn, which in and of itself is interesting. For animal lovers like myself, the icing on the cake is that you also get to pet, brush, and feed all of the animals in a really low key setting. Even the turkeys love to snuggle! Right now, they have 8 piglets who (along with their mom) were rescued from becoming Christmas dinner. They have several cows (one that purrs and one that loves music!) and a bull, horses and a donkey you can feed, chickens, roosters, pigs of all sizes. I saw a llama or two, an emu... lots of doggies since they have them on the grounds and youre allowed to bring yours on leash! There is a picnic area where you can purchase vegan food (or bring your own, though they do kindly ask that you not consume animal products on the premises, which seems logical to me as many of their friends were rescued from slaughter). Theres plenty of space to roam around and infinite opportunities for photos. The Gentle Barn promotes love and kindness to all living things, so please share the experience respectfully. Its a beautiful place and I hope it stays that way even as it becomes a more popular destination!

We got to go on a field trip. Gate was closed so we had to call in from call box. Once we are in, we got to hug and brush cows, fed horses, got to touch pigs, turkey, lamb and goats. It was a one of a kind of experience. If you want to have close interactions with barn animals, I recommend visiting here on Sunday. They are open to public with fees to keep caring for them.

The people at the Gentle Barn are absolutely amazing and they are an example for the rest of the world of how to treat animals.I would take my kids to the Gentle Barn at any age and on any day, and when we had to stand in line, I would explain to them that we are NOT at a zoo where animals have been put there against their will and live miserable lives, but on the contrary, were privileged to be at a sanctuary, where horribly abused animals or animals on their way to slaughter were saved and have had their dignity restored.I am also always honored to pay the hefty fee knowing that this money is wisely used to care for the existing animal residents but also to rescue many more. I always make my kids aware that there are so few places like this on this planet, even though there needs to be one for every farmed and abused animal and that we are so lucky to be able to set foot in such a haven. Its actually their favorite place. Any kid who is made to be the witness of what goes on at the Gentle Barn becomes such a better human being in the process! I really believe it changes them for the much better by making them more conscious and exposed to true kindness to the most dejected.Thank you to everyone at the Gentle Barn, including donors, who make this animal haven possible and who allow the public the privilege to spend time in this unique and beautiful place.

My daughter wanted me to take her to this place for her birthday and it was one of the most amazing outings our family has ever taken. I cannot stress how awesome this place is. The owners are really dynamic people. I have been trying to eat less animals since this trip. Veganism is their goal and they do a great job making the connection between what you eat is just the same as your dog or cat. Hugging a cow really was something special. I guess I am an official cow hugger now haha.

Im not one to enjoy being preached at, but if you go to Gentle Barn you cant really complain about them pursuing their mission statement; be kinder to animals. While the visit did not convert me to veganism, it did open my eyes (a little) to the fact that animals arent just passive objects for us to do what we want with; they have personalities. So that made the trip worthwhile. Also, hugging cows is pretty awesome. If you have kids, or just like animals, Id really recommend going (also, their vegan food is pretty delicious)

I always find it hard to believe when someone leaves a 1 to 3 star on organizations like this. But usually it’s someone that doesn’t have the insight or business sense on how much money time and effort it takes to maintaining something of this nature. Sometimes, I have to ask myself, what if I contributed, what have I brought to the table. I give gentle barn, five stars for taking care of these beautiful animals.Incredible that someone would make it about themselves and not the animals, complaining about long lines etc. Society sometimes can be extremely selfish.
