Very interesting history. The terrain looks great for trails - hiking or biking. Maybe its the pandemic, but theres litter everywhere. I dont get why people think its their prerogative to trash a place. The fee collecting seems different - in addition to a parking fee, theres a per-person trail fee. The fee kiosks work great. The bathrooms are in okay shape. This time of year, most of the plants are brown and dried up, I could imagine it looking quite verdant in the spring. I would also expect that after the pandemic, in good weather, the place gets a lot of use, I can see why it would be popular.
Great view to bay, very quiet and relaxing, well maintained. There are tables and BBQ. There is also clean bathrooms. Can enjoy a relaxing full day here
The views from China Camp Shoreline Trail is beautiful. As well the trail has lots of trees. There are a couple of benches on the trail. There is a day use fee per hiker that can be paid on trail by the Rangers Station. It is cheaper for 2 to 4 people in a car to pay for parking. Since the parking fee includes the use fee for up to 4 people.Started the trail were there are 2 round post on the side of the road. There was no sign facing the road just two post. They are located past the entence to China Camp from the downtown San Rafael side.Trail can be picked up by the ranger station as well.
Great park!Fee: $5 parking or $3 hiking only- Card or cash (honor system)Hours: Sunrise - Sunset- The signage can be confusing so make sure that you do not park before or after rise/set.Parking: Paved PAID parking and dirt turnouts.Access: You can access the south end of the park from US-101 Exit 452 (Third St which turns into Pt San Pedro Rd)- this is the most scenic drive to the park. OR you can enter through N San Pedro Rd which is a few exits up on US-101.Bathrooms: Super clean with running water. Bring hand soap/paper towel with you though as they do not have either.Tip: Gets windy! Be cautious of bikers. Pick up after your pets and don’t litter! Drive/bike through the entirety of the park as there are several unique areas, and a small beach as well.
Not my favorite state park, but we did come here and enjoy a nice lunch from the Puerto Rican restaurant in San Rafael called Sol Food. It was a very clear day and the water was very calm couldnt ask for better weather. there were trails that I did not get to experience that I wish I did, so that does mean that we will be back one day. Lots of little interesting things to learn about the site and its history.
What a beautiful place to take a hike!!!! My husband and I had about two hours to explore the park. The old China Camp village is fun to look around. Off the coast you can see pelicans and various other birds hanging out on Rat Rock Island. We hiked the village trail and some of the shoreline trail and had a great time. We saw the most beautiful wild flowers blooming, tons of deer, lizards, squirrels, and one snake. The views and vistas were amazing. Highly recommend. Restrooms are available. Bring water and sunscreen.
Charming quiet spot for relaxing and swimming. The history and love being poured into the park by volunteers is wonderful. Brings you back to both the ugly and beautiful side of yesteryear.Totally worth a visit if you want to go for a swim and commune with nature yet not be inundated by crowds. Marin has much to offer beyond the obvious glitz
Beautiful sight and a wonderful historical place to visit and you can catch some fish its as if Im going to keep living here
This is a beautiful place close to our house. I’m here a couple times a week biking and hiking. But lately crashing on my mountain bike! So great.
Great single-track trails for mountain biking and hiking
Amazing campground with smooth roads to ride your bike to the beach. Definitely bring bug spray. The mosquitos are out for blood at night in a pretty serious way. The camp is clean and spots aren’t too close to each other. The camp hosts a the sweetest. You can also pay fees at a machine so it’s not a cash only camp ground. There is also a 7/11 just up the road to grab last minute snack
China camp is a great place to spend an hour or two. Its realitivly easy to get to, and with no charges for parking its free! Highly recommend it you dont have anything to do on an afternoon.
Its an awesome place to walk and see sea lions, ducks... Im missing a cafeteria or something like that, but it has a big parking lot and miles to walk along the coast and among trees.
Great beach with some shade and the perfect water to swim in. Its the bay so its warm. Limited parking means no overcrowding.
Well cared-for trails, good for hiking, running and mountain biking. Good views of the bay too
Nice mellow paddle north up the shore to where creek enters the bay.
Love this place! Beautiful and relaxing. Nice little getaway close to home.
Great beach to swim at...super clean and they have showers after.
Great park for biking, boating, or hiking. Get a picnic lunch in San Rafael, and pick one of a number of bayside spots to eat.
Awesome. Natural beauty. Historic and cultural lessons to be learned. Many outdoor activities for all. We miss Frank Quan, who, as a member of the Chinese working fishing village that once was here, Frank went off to serve this country in WW2. Frank came home to this spot and never left. Being the only person to have been given status as part of a designated Historic Site, Frank happily remained here for the duration of his lifetime. (RIP, dear Frank.) Enjoy all that China Camp has to offer you! A great spot!
China Camp offers excellent biking, hiking, and bayside walking trails. You can find steep trails, flat trails, medium - single trek - etc - lots of variety! Great camping as well - not overcrowded. The walks along the bayside are very nice - with educational signs on local fauna. Huge park. Loads of history.
Not too crowded, fun beach day. Water is warmer than the ocean and sand is pleasant.
Wonderful place to visit. Captures the history of Chinese shrimp industry. Will explore the trails on our next visit.
A small gravel beach with bit of sandy part. Lots of tables n benches. Toilet. A little shop. Nice shade in the afternoon!
You can usually escape the valley heat by making the trip out here. Some fun mountain biking with a couple of great views.
Peaceful getaway from the City - during the week
Great place to get away from the city. Lots of history and interesting information at the main historic site. Awesome place to bike camp.
Very awesome place with a cool historic past, great for kayaking and swimming!
Park was good. Viewpoints, camping site, trails. Good for BBQ. But some viewpoints have parking fee $5.
Great place with all kinds of outdoor activities.
Love the place.. Ready to enjoy with the family.. Bike riding mountain or road bike..
Excellent single track experience, not too crowded, any incline is a pretty solid 3°. Great spot for mountain bikers
Beautiful day at a gorgeous state park.
It was ok!
Fun ride. Not difficult single tracks. Not a big ride.
Absolutely beautiful, amazing views and gorgeous walks. We saw deer and heron and so many spring flowers! It was just early spring (end of February) - wish we could go again in a few weeks!
Its a nice big place to do everything you can do on state park grounds. But the only thing I didnt like about it was theres alot of glass alone the ocean line, so wear shoes. Now am not taking about the actual camp site thats closed right now. But the trails and ocean is open to the public. The ocean shore on some of the banks there alot of broken glass. But check it out your self.
McNears Beach is in China Park, and warmest water in Bay area.
Who knew there was so much beauty, great Bay views and fishing history right off US 101. Plenty of great trails for hikers (some shaded), overnight camping w facilities and mountain bikers delight. Especially loved walking on China Beach area.
Love the mountain bike trails here. Never too crowded even on a weekend. Views are spectacular. Wildlife--wild turkeys, deer. Love taking our van here for a late afternoon ride and then just relaxing into the sunset.
Good place for camping with the family! Your dog is welcome too in designated area.
Great place to hike!
So lovely, with calm waters, birds, trees, and cool historical structures.
Rode mountain bikes here for a couple of hours. Lots of fun and easy trails.
Lots of hiking trails...beautiful views...camping...and a great little museum about the history of the camp.
Awesome Hike! Awesome camping! Awesome nature! Looks like The Lord of the Rings backstage:)
What I can say, just wonderful thanks God for this cute place . We have to take care your planet . Very beautiful place I invite you to come here.
Looks awesome from the water side. Good anchorage
A really nice park that has a great view of San Pablo Bay. Great docents and you have to meet Georgette in the store/cafe. She has great stories about growing up in the fishing camp! Nice place for picnics and learning about how the Chinese processed the Bay Shrimp that were caught in San Pablo Bay. A must see!
This is a great place just to relax, cook-out, good trails, and nice views of the Bay.
Bay area view is beautiful
This park has everything for outdoor enjoyment. Beaches, trails, picnic areas, and views galore.
Magnificent hiking trails everywhere. Saw a coyote, wild turkey and deer
Well-maintained trail and bathrooms. Relaxing natural beauty full of wildlife around sunset—I saw rabbits, hawks, deer and coyotes today.
One rare spot for a quiet getaway, with picnic tables, paid ($5) parking, nice view and a scenic drive.
Interesting historical place to visit. Several old buildings and places to picnic.
No sand, but otherwise everything you could need in a bay hangout: tables, shade, grass, interesting buildings around... without the crowds. Maybe the $5 paking fee keeps people away. Spent a pleasant 5 hours there on a Saturday. No-one seemed to care that we had a few beers.
Well preserved historical site. Friendly docents on weekend. Great site for sketching.
Beautiful park,u can have BBQ,nice to walk around and U can see stuffs people use to catch shrimps in the olden days, amazing!:)
One of my favorite place in Marin county. If youre in San Rafael CA looking for places to visit. Highly recommend china camp. You wont be disappointed.
Nice place to visit, good trails for cycling and walking and running.
Great biking, for all skill levels
One of the few places you are allowed to ride your bike on single track in the bay area. Definitely a popular spot for bikes. If I was hiking I would look elsewhere.
Great walks, hikes, biking, Bay views
This place was perfect for a couple nights camping. Ill be back for more.
Maybe it was the time of the year but I did not like that there was a lot of dust. Every time wind blew, we had to rush to cover things. And there were ticks. They did post the lime disease warning which was scary too. Also camp sites did not have water source close by. There was one near the restroom. One of the shower was not working. The other was fine and pro wa that they were not charging quarters for it. They did have hot water.
Excellent mountain biking! Fast!
If you love Peruvian good you will love place. If you dont know Peruvian good you should try this place. If you dont like Peruvian food... Theres no hope for you
Too many mosquitoes, and trails arent flowy. But not too bad.
Great place to get away from the city. My family enjoyed when we came here.
Dense mostly coastal laurel and manzanita forest with extensive hiking and bike trails. Lots of deer and even puma if tracks are to be believed.
Great place to hike, bike, or run. It is time to open up the park!
Great motorcycle ride thru the park, several old buildings left.
Great place for all types of MTB riders
Great trails, just be careful of the bikes!
Beautiful park, trails and views.
Very nice to visit lots of history
Great, well maintained trails for biking and hiking. Only $3 to go on the trail.
Great history in the area, amazing views, and good fishing
Great place to picnic with the family!
Nice little park for small gatherings. I wouldnt recommend jumping in the water but Ive seen people swimming. There is a shower area to clean off so thats nice. There were a lot of bees flying around but who doesnt love bees?
Beautiful place to camp or spend the day and take a walk
We attended a presentation on bats, with live bats! It was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much Friends if China Camp!
Great place to camp if you live in the bay area.
Nice outdoors place
Beautiful place...my Mom and me were happy
Good for a family day.
China camp is a literal hidden gem.
Lesser known state park with some history.
When the villages final tenant, Frank, passed away, the buildings seemed forlorn. Now, they are just remnants of history. Walk through the village and read the history, then explore along the shore. This park itself is enormous, drive or bike along the coastal road, and hikes have many possibilities.
Wonderful singletrack, amazing views of San Pablo Bay, hidden gems, bike camping, best of the Bay.
Small bugs in the water that bite
Good for an afternoon mountain bike ride
Very peaceful and beautiful state park. Great place to relax and explore historical sites.
It’s a really beautiful park and is fairly big. One problem is that you must pay to get in. But it has many trails and I like to go there.
Great for mountain biking! A solid loop will leave you tired but happy. Parking along the street is good to go!
