Definitely do not recommend. We had a horrible experience here. We were told the cover charge would be $10. As soon as we arrived, two men greeted us. One man said $20 per person and then the other man said $40. We left because we were not about to pay $40/person on a Sunday night. After we walked away, another man asked how much we would be willing to pay to get in. We were expecting to be respected when we showed up and instead were extremely insulted. We would like to pay what the cover charge is, not some made up amount when you see a group of women show up to your door. Total scam. I will definitely be reporting this bar.
What happened to this place? I used to hang there in the late 80s. Saw many acts there - Todd Rundgren (solo), Chris Issac, Robert Cray, Paul Butterfield w/ Buzzy Fieten, Bob Weir with Jaco Pastorius ... and many more acts that never got their due. One night Bill Graham was in the audience checking out some local talent. At the time, it was the greatest place to hang in Northern California. I guess the only thing constant is change ..... sad to hear it is closed. How about a Newer Georges?
I came there on comedy night and paid 15 dollars at the door. I sat alone and waited for the show to start. A hundred passes by ten waiters went pass an no one greeted me, offered me a menu or a drink. But the mutual admiration society rolled on.I finally went to the bar and ordered a glass of wine by myself. I tipped well and went back to my spot. The glass was chipped and I nearly cut my lip. But the mutual admiration society was a spectacle to behold.I brought the glass of wine back to the bartender and showed it to him. He went catatonic, and I could literally not get a response from him. He just froze and would not speak, respond, move or anything. Finally, after just too weird a vibe, and no help from the management, I left, never to return.I sent a review by email to their website, and got a call from the general manager offering to treat me and my guest to an evening on the house. After an experience that terrible? Are you kidding, I asked him. This is Marin. We pay more for the quality and the service. It is incumbent upon you to get it right the first time.If you are fragile and insecure, go here and join the mutual admiration society and remain inauthentic. If you wish more, go to D Angelos in Mill Valley or 44 and even Bucks is not awful and be pleased with what your money will bring you. This place is a wash. I will never go there, nor even perform there.Update: Thankfully, this hack of an operation closed its doors not long after it opened, and the cultural, as well as bar service scene for Marin is all the better for it.
We saw Sarah and Vinnie, and it was so crowded you couldnt breathe. You couldnt get a waiters eye, even jumping up and down at the bar, and there was no toilet paper in the ladies room. After about 10 minutes (main act had not started yet) we asked for our money back and they told us theyd only sold 290 tickets and they were licensed for 293, and there was still a little room on the dance floor so he refused to refund us. I guess the fact that all 290 people were focused in half the area assigned to 293 didnt occur to him.Good news is that we left and went to Peris in Fairfax, where Djiin was playing and it was awesome! Fairfax any day - Im not going back to Georges...
If youre used to the Downtown San Rafael area you will quickly realize this is a gem of a spot for all demographics to hangout, socialize, mingle, ect. Keep it professional without all the other bullshit and youll have a good time.#Combinations #PeanutButterMobb #PBMobb
This place has such potential. It has amazing space to dance and mingle and there arent enough spaces like that in Marin. We went a couple weeks ago to see comedian Scott Capurro. The place was embarrassingly dead. But I have a bit of insight as to why...A week before the event, we went online to try to purchase tickets. They werent sold out. But the website kept giving an error that said something like error with purchasing agent. So we thought..ok, well head down to Georges and pick up tickets. The website says they open at 4pm, the door says they open at 3pm. The reality is that we checked at 3pm, 4pm, 6pm, and 7pm and the doors never opened. I guess they must only be open on nights they have events. But I was not deterred. We kept trying and eventually found a live human to help us. One sole bartender at 9pm with a handful of patrons. So the evening before the show, we were able to purchase tickets online after they fixed their website. However, what about all of those people out there who werent as persistent? Well, they gave up so the place was nearly empty. Now the night comes. The place is empty (see above). So why did it take the bartenders (which almost outnumbered patrons) 20 minutes to come to our table to ask if we needed anything to drink? Yeah, I dont know either. And refills? Well, my hubby was kind enough to do the honors for us. My hubby, the mean guy who made the bartender stop FBing on his smartphone and pour 4 drinks. Whew, that was hard.Unfortunately, the place still gets some stellar acts. So well probably be back. But you can bet your booty Ill be bringing a flask.
