I love this place, I live close by and go often. I make crafts, different types. If you are a true artist, this is the place for you. But as a crafter it is great too. They give classes and the teachers are very good. My last discovery here are water color pencils. Great place for gifts too. I have bought many cool bags here - for make up, gifts, for shopping. Great variety. My favorite is decorated with sugar skulls, another is a mermaid theme, all made from recycled things. The brand is Blue Q, and some other brands too. This place is a definite 5 star store. Check it out, its worth it.

Service is excellent and the advice actually comes from people who are artists and know what they are talking about. If youre talking to someone who doesnt have the specific expertise they get the person who does. I enjoy going here because they normally have a good sale running that will save you money.

Found this little place on 4th street in San Rafael. I bought an art set for my grandson. That came with a sketch pad illustrations and colored pencils he loved it. They have everything.

Excellent selection of all sorts of pens, pretty much every color/style of jelly roll, calligraphy pens, and sharpies you can dream of. Also offer art classes which is cool. Also! A decently sized childrens section of art materials including glitter, puff paint, and creation kits :)

Hard to negotiate narrow passages in wheelchair; otherwise, I Love this place! Every product Im likely to need in my Art Wanderings, and then some. If they also made thermofax screens (like another local art store I know) Id never shop anywhere else.

I wouldve liked to give this spacious store located downtown San Rafael at least 4 stars but the faculty is vague.I see an ever changing staff which prevents me from forming any kind of bond or even someone to count on to know something about my art projects.I have lived in Marin for over two decades and I tend to have many long term friends in every one of the 13 villages.But this place is lacking of the warmth which comes when you walk into say Dharma Trading and feel right at home.So, when I bought an acrylic pen to paint a sign, I was told I could either return it or exchange it if it didnt work but when I took it back a week later, a woman named Michaela said that they can not return products which have been opened.I didnt mind that so much except that the other staff members had told me it would be okay.This type of contradictory misinformation being given out from numerous staff members over other store policies as well ( discounts etc,.) have led me to wonder what types of ethics the owner of the store has.I will stick to Dharma Trading Company for as many of my arts and crafts supply needs as possible so I can avoid this place.

Big, bright, so many different supplies, and love the card assortment, some by local artists.

The place is big, clean, bright and packing every single art need you might ever have. If art stores arent your thing, its still fun to walk around and check things out.Even if youre not the art type, youll still manage to find something of interest in the place. Whether its testing pens, sorting through a long and twisted piles of markers or watching one of the ongoing art classes, its not a bad way to spend a few minutes of your day.

Nice, dog friendly (!) place. Nobodys pushing you to make your selections. You can take your time browsing, theres art on the walls, theres a long table with chairs where they presumably host art events.

The store is loaded with everything you might think of. Not cheap, but very professional.

For a beginner, the shop is an overwhelm of choices, but the shopkeeper readily and cheerfully shopped my supply list for me. Great place!
