I wouldnt go anywhere else. It is such a friendly evironment, almost like having your best friend cut your hair. They are always open to new ideas and they do their best to keep you looking good. Also a heads up to make an apppointment in advance because he does book up.

David and his team of top notch stylists are my go-to place in Marin county for refreshing my hair style.The salon is small and cozy, slightly set back from the hustle and bustle of 4th street, which does make parking a bit easier especially on a busy weekend day.Prices are reasonable (much cheaper than what I was paying for a comparable quality haircut in San Francisco), and the result is excellent.Can always count on them for feedback about interesting cuts to try and in general it seems like my hair grows out much better after it has been cut at David James, which lets the haircut last longer.

I had been searching for a new salon that specialized in curly hair, and had been ratings-stalking this place for a couple of months. I finally made an appointment and I am so happy I did! I showed Arianna a few photos of what I had in mind; she cut about 10 inches off hair and gave me the cutest shaggy curly haircut! She gave me a lot of great tips and tricks for styling my new hairdo too. I’m obsessed with my hair, I haven’t gotten a cut this good in a really long time. I’ve officially found my new salon and stylist! So happy!

First time visiting the salon and I know Lindsay Labonte is going to be my new go-to for hair. Been looking for someone in NBay good with super fine and long hair and she did a bang-up job...giving me new bangs and lots of movement. First time someone cut my hair dry to start with but what a huge difference it made. Small, intimate salon w (3) chairs, owner David greeted me and lots of interesting hair in need of some good loving showing up ...great vibe.

I saw a woman with a great short haircut the other day. I asked her where she got the cut? She said, A salon in San Rafael on B Street called, David James Salon. I made an appointment immediately. I saw Arianna, but I was told that any of the stylists can give a great short haircut. Give them a try!

AVOID COLOR TREATMENT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE HALF BALDI called for a single process color appointment and was booked with Lia St. Pierre Sanchez. No confirmation arrived, as promised. I called to confirm but was sent to voicemail, as always. I arrived early and was on the books. Lia was finishing up with a cut and asked me to put a smock on and take a seat.She focused on my gray roots. I told her that I had been using an oil based color-- Color Insider by Matrix--and asked if she had it or a similar product. She disappeared into the color closet for what seemed to be a long time.Lia emerged with a muddy concoction and started on my roots. She assured me that it contained no ammonia or hydrogen peroxide when I asked about the strong chemical smell.Fast forward four days--my hair begins to fall out in fistfuls. I shampoo it and the amount of hair loss is the size of a hockey puck. It fills a snack size baggie. This continues. Each time I brush or wash my hair, the loss is so terrible that I save it in a new snack size baggie. I try to reach Lià but radio silence. No return call, no return message, nothing. Then, I try to reach the salon. Same lack of response.I booked an appointment with my dermatologist to rule out any changes in my health (she did an exam and confirmed that my health was fine and not the cause), review the vitamins I take (all okay), and for her to examine my hair and scalp. Id seen her just two weeks earlier for my semiannual exam, so she was familiar with my hair and scalp. As the hair came out at the folicle (rather than breaking) she agreed that the rapid hair loss and bald patches were likely the result of the harsh chemicals used.I sent an email to the salon, and David replied with all sorts of things about how Lia doesnt work for him but he will make good. All talk and NO action. He just made excuses, even when I presented my doctors findings showing that the salon was the only probable cause for my drastic hair loss. He said he would at minimum, reimburse me for the color services, but its been many weeks (months) and that hasnt happened.

My hair is curly and very fine, and I very much needed an updated, more fun cut than what I had. Arianna listened carefully to my diatribe and took her time to create a cool, boppy haircut with lots of movement that worked well with the texture of my hair and the shape of my face. So happy! The salon is cozy and charming. Ill definitely be back!

This place was great start to finish. I called and they were able to see me that day. Rocky helped detangle my dread head and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. Not anyone can be trusted with curly hair, so it was refreshing to try out a new place where the stylists knew what they were doing. Everyone at the salon is so nice, and it has a very hip and chic vibe. Plus the price of the cut was right on. Will definitely be returning again soon.

I have been going to David James salon for my last few haircuts and Rocky has been doing an amazing job. Every time I get a haircut he is super precise and make sure that I am happy with his cut. I highly recommend going there!!!!

Went and saw Rocky for the first time. My old hair person failed me. They went MIA. Went with someone local and boy oh boy was that an awesome decision. Rocky crushed it! Ive never look so good in my life and I dont know why its taken me this long to find someone who can do hair like Rocky.

Our family LOVES this salon. One can always count on a beautiful/handsome haircut. The environment is friendly and warm.Also, our adult son has many emotional and psychiatric special needs and this is the ONLY salon that we can go where he does not mind having his head touched and where he will engage in conversation.I know that most families do not have that particular issue. So I will say that the hair care is done by very talented people and one feels like a new person when they leave!

Yes. Come here. I have followed David for years, from when he was forced to wear a Western haircut holster to this space of his vision. His vision shows an eye, a thoughtfulness, a freshness, an artfulness but not avant-garde, it is still rooted in something traditional and natural. He is a delight to speak with, also figuring out when I am in the mood to talk, to listen, to be quiet. He knows when I have a particular hair request/need, and when I want his expertise to experiment. The same is true for all the people he works with, and the salon in the city.

Hes like a portrait painter who makes his subjects look better, only in this case, his art is you in real life. Youll be amazed how good he can make you look.My experience has always been like this: I go in looking like I just got back from a trek and come out looking like a star.Whether you dont have much hair (at least on your head, its still growing out of your chin and ears and eyebrows), or if your head looks like a chia pet, Dave can look at you, visualize how you SHOULD look, and make you look that way (beard, mustache, eyebrows, ears and all).Dave has exquisite attention to detail--and a friendly manner--he can talk to anybody about anything--and know what hes talking about!If you have a lot of hair--Dave can make it look like you just stepped out of a Pantene commercial. If you dont have a lot of hair, Dave can make you look like youre ready for a GQ photo shoot.His new salon is elegant yet comfortable (big leather sofa), and parkings easy, either on the street or in the lot a block away at 5th and C.If you have any hair, you need Dave. Simple as that.Trust me on this.
