Interesting English beer selection. Very cool little spot because its been a bar for like 170 years! There is so much to look at inside and everyone was very friendly.

I was able to go here when they opened for a short time a few months ago. It was the first bar I had been at in months. I really liked the place a lot and will be very happy if it survives Covid!

Really enjoyed the Dueling Pianos and they take requests as long as you tip them. Was a lot of fun. Wish I would have had a chance to try the fish and chips but they do have really tasty spicy ketchup to go with the fries as well as other great food choices. Definitely will be going back.

This place is a blast, especially on the nights when theres dueling pianos. The bartender is very friendly, and accommodating for large groups. Call ahead though if you are planning a big gathering. They have bent over backwards on several occasions now for our family. Never disappointed.

Food is good and very well priced, people are nice here. There was a local sitting at the bar who would jump up and run food and clear tables.to help out, just because he like the place and wanted people to feel welcome and enjoy it as much as he does. That is pretty awesome you have customers love the place that much.We loved the food and were.happy that they had speckled hen on tap....

I had the fish and chips and really liked them. Nothing special or fancy about them, which is a good thing. Nice light batter and quality fish. Steak fries are standard. Most important, not soggy. This might sound like I didnt really like the meal, but Ill definitely be back. Fish and chips arent supposed to be amazing, they should be a nice, light but filling meal. Oh and the portions are on the larger size

Best fish n chips in the Bay!

If you like dives, it’s for you. Karaoke wed-sat night with the always awesome Dan. And believe it or not, they have easily the best fish and chips that I’ve had on the west coast.

We had their fish n chips, they were fantastic, and quite filling. Theres a neat patio in the back to sit.

Good portions and the food was cooked to perfection. Friendly and welcoming staffs. A good ambiance that could make you feel welcome.

Great place to sing along with the dueling pianos and have a drink. The fish and chips are hands down the best in San Mateo.

Love the couches and fireplaces but the door to the outside patio being left open let a lot of cigarette smoke to come in. As someone with asthma it forced me to the other side of the room and still I could smell it. outside of that the bartender for super friendly and the drinks were well priced.

Fun place, dive-bar-ish. Lots of memorabilia to look at. Juke box. Love the outdoor seating. Like that you can get food. Not fancy food but decent if you just need a little bite. Friendly staff.

Had SO much fun at this bar. The downstairs part is so unique, and the service was awesome. We were fortunate enough to attend on a Saturday - so we were able to enjoy the duelling pianos! Unreal that such talent can be showcased at no cost to patrons. Great drinks, great prices and such a fun night. Wish I could visit Cali more often just to come here. :)

Cool and unique ambience in all 3 areas: bottom floor bar area, back yard open air area and top floor dueling pianos. Bar is well stocked and well priced.

Cool little bar. Draw back is lack of parking. The bartender was really nice. The bacon burger was cooked perfectly. The decorations have lots of character. Fun place to have drink and snack.

Dueling pianos is great!! The place can get crowded and uncomfortable, and could use another bathroom.

Great atmosphere and best fish chips I have had around. Bring the kids for the 4-6pm happy hour as food prices are half price on most items on appetizer menu but the portions are large and each an entree size! We aleays love the large basket of fish bites, fried clams, spicy chicken wings (sometimes hotter than others) and chip basket (fries) that has large-size fries as well as a lot of fries.

We went early sat at the bar and enjoyed a great burger and my husband had the best fish n chips. We are going back for the dueling pianos. Sounds fun

Great place with good prices and good beer. Only odd thing is people bring their kids to a dive bar. Music at nights (that Ive been here) and has a warm, inviting, drink-all-day-here feel to it.

Stopped in here because the reviews were so good. Waited five minutes - at 4pm - to find anyone who would acknowledge me. There were five people in the pub, two guys at the bar looking at me sympathetically, as I was sitting there, waiting. That said, the fish was good.

Its everything you imagine a British Pub to be, we truly need more of these places around where you can grab a pint and meet some friends.

Double check your receipts after going here. Happened to me multiple times as well as some of my friends. Smells like wet rags too. BUT the feel of a dive is there and the Dueling Pianos, karaoke and comedy nights are fun. Might just be a bad bartender that we got.

Its a very traditional (1970s) pub experience, with low ceilings, wallpaper, wainscoting and horse brasses. I believe I saw a dartboard. Its like a typical end terrace working class pub thats been knocked through (no snug) and its all a mix of bar and lounge, belying the very American exterior.There is a decent size yard, dog friendly, with seating. The wood fence is a bit unexpected, as I was expecting 8ft brick walls after experiencing the inside decor, but this break with tradition is okay considering we are in quake country.They do have some common British exports, but sometimes serve them in frosty glasses by mistake.Their fish and chips are hit and miss. The batter is good, but they tend to use local fish, not Atlantic, so the flesh isnt as firm or white, but thats a fault of the Pacific, not the pub.

I was told I wasn’t allowed to sing a Christmas song (last Christmas by Wham) because it wasn’t Christmas time by DAN. Who sings irrelevant songs that the crowd doesn’t know. He is the ‘dj’ .

By far the best pub in San Mateo. The crowd is ways fun and lively. Excellent beer and spirit selection. Always have live music which makes for a great evening.

Very cool pub style place fireplaces and a great booth with couches and a fireplace food was good but on the greasy side. That may have been due to we where one of the first people to order food. Great selection of beers on tap and a well stocked bar good for children too. Id come back for a second try if nothing else great for drinks

Kind of dingy place which could have a no-frills unpretentious old school bar appeal except that the entire place reeks of cigarette smoke.

Karaoke doesnt start on time (but it almost never does,does it?) But sound system is pretty good, and song collection excellent. Fun crowd that includes some genuinely good singers. Good selection of British beers too. Food smelled good, though I didnt eat.

Margaritas were good, food meh. Nice patio where you can have a dog.

I have gone to this Pub frequently whenever Im in San Francisco. I love the service, I love the atmosphere and I will continue going there. Its especially nice since Im originally British and it has a really British feel to it. Outside seating too.

Use to be better but past few times Ive been, the beer has been flat and super foamy.

Reasonably priced drinks and a solid drink selection. Cant ask for much more.

This place is pre bought food and they heat it up, decent outdoor patio if you like inhaling second hand smoke, you better off getting run over by the train that crosses out back save your money

Super random but chill dive bar on the other side of el camino (by the train tracks). Beers and drinks aren’t dive bar prices but their fair. We came on a night when there was dueling pianos so that was pretty fun.

Old type of Irish pub. These pianos show is on Thursday nights. There is a probability yo may run into a large meet up crowd since some meet up groups like to hi l d events there. Karaoke bar is more fun then the second floor piano show.

The Swingin Door never disappoints me. Ive been eating here for ~3 years and have never been given bad service. The beer battered fish bites are a must order for sure!

What a fun place to enjoy karaoke. Professional sound and equipment. Nice selection of songs. Great atmosphere with comfortable seating. This is the spot if you want to have fun. Thursday night was not too crowded.

This is a pretty good place if you want to have a beer or cider and fried food. The later of which is pretty good I think, especially given the place. I cant help but feel that the folks that frequent here are a bit...racist. But then again most folks are. Just a bit tangible. Nonetheless, I still go at times. Karaoke on Fridays are pretty lit and draws the most diverse crowd of the week.

Great place, great atmosphere. I was there for New Years. They were doing karaoke and I sang Aerials by System of a Down. The karaoke guy adjusted his equipment to my voice which was spectacular. I was having a rough night and the bouncers showed a lot of concern for me by asking if I was okay when I stepped outside for some air.

Love this place for the entertainment (free of cover charge). Food is ok, but wish that theyd expand the menu to include other vegetarian entrees (only thing is a veggie burger). Happy that they still (after 30++ years) have the Silicon Valley Gulch band (great Dixieland jazz!) Play on Tuesday evenings!!

Its a dive bar feel inside complete with the smell of cigarette smoke permeating everything. The fried foods were great- french fries, wings (great regular, hot sauce), etc. Burgers were average. Salad was VERY basic, but the chicken on top was juicy and great flavor.

A dive bar with a great British pub vibe and food during the day. Nice outdoor area for nice evening. On weekends a good karaoke set up.

This is a cozy bar. I came here for the first time tonight. The bartender was super friendly. I had the bangers and mash. It was ok. Not the best, speaking as an English person. But not awful. I loved the duelling pianos. They were a blast.

Karaoke is good but they didnt know how to turn off the echo so the sound was a little jacked up. there are a LOT of people so you have to wait like an hour between songs

Great hole-in-the-wall bar. The patio is a nice place to hang out. Inside is a little dark. This reminds me of a traditional English or Irish Pub.

I came across this bar on yelp and I must say I felt this was genius! A bar and bukowski? Umm yeah Genius! I love this place wish they had snacks but besides that place was great!

I come here for fish and chips. Awesome! Great beer selection on tap! Down to earth and real bartenders. Huge basket of haddock deep fried fish and chips and slaw for under $10. Try it during rush hours :)
