Had a great experience today with the help of an awesome master guide Matthew! This was a super fun experience. Even though we struggled and were confused at some of the puzzles, we were able to get through with the help of Matthew.Good place for friends/team bonding and definitely would recommend to my other friends :)

My 10 year old had a bday party with 8 kids at theAlien experience in San Mateo. I gave it 5 stars for amazing customer service on the phone and with the guide . That said, it was a little frustrating for them but I think the kids were so pumped up and distracted by each other they couldnt work together to figure it out. So, next time, Id do it with only 5 kids (an adult has to be in the room too but of course you want to encourage the kids themselves to figure it out). Be sure to get there early for finding parking but if you go into a lot there is plenty. Also, dont forget to tip your guide!

I went there for a team offsite. The experience was good overall. The rooms seemed a little small and felt little crammed but given they are in San Mateo downtown it wasn’t that surprising. We were a group of 9 but probably this escape room is best suited for a little smaller groups. The puzzles were challenging and we needed a few hints. In retrospect some of the puzzles did feel unnecessary in order to complete the escape. The Game Master hosted us well. Overall we had a good time.

Aloha! WE had a great time participating in the Sherlock Holmes, Inc game. There were 6 of us and we had a blast! Although we didnt complete the game on time, it was a very fun experience. We did Escape from the Aliens. Our puzzle masters were great! They were funny and genial and added to the experience. Without giving too much away, it was very combination-lock based. It was difficult, but perhaps less complex and artfully done than the Great Houdini Escape Room Ive done in SF. That said, it was tons of fun, and there was still enough complexity and puzzles that everyone in our group of nine could contribute simultaneously and have a good time. Definitely worth the money, and everyone in my group now wants to do another escape room.

This escape room had a fun story and good puzzles. We came with a small group and unfortunately had another group booked with us, which was the only disappointing part of the experience. Half of the other group was about 20min late and the other half was over 30min late. We waited 25min and then started without the latest attendees. I wish our game master had honored the policy and not let the last group in since they were so late. We ended up full to capacity with a bunch of people who hadnt heard the back story and were mostly just standing in our way as we tried to solve the puzzles. It detracted from the experience and made it pretty much impossible to escape. Still, my group had fun.

We had a great time at the escape room solving a murder mystery. There were many physical elements that kept us engaged throughout; I personally like themes with multiple rooms, but we were told before this would be a mystery room and not a typical escape room.

Ma
Review №18

We purchased this experience based on the recommendation that it was appropriate for 10 year olds. I would say that this was not appropriate for this age group. I would caution that anyone who wants to involve kids in this experience should get more information that I did regarding whether or not the room is appropriate. The kids did have a good time although many were scared about a pending event (that was threatened would happen, but did not (and never would) as it is simply part of the story) but again, really is more suitable for an older crowd. For adults, this is a fun activity.

My son just had his birthday at Ryptic escape room last Friday 10/26 and it was quite an adventure for them. It’s all about team work and having fun. My 8 year old and his friend got a little scared but all in all it was a fun experience. Our game master was a really nice lady. A bit strict but she needs to because 10 boys can be a tough one! I love how she helped solve problems by asking them great questions. She was an awesome master! The place was ok. It’s located in an old building so the smell was a bit unpleasant. Not too bad though.Anyway, it was a great experience!

Group of three had a fun time. The puzzles were tricky and took the full time. I think the hints available were a bit TOO helpful and walked you through it instead of just pointing you in the right direction, but we did have a family with small kids in the room so it might have been catered to the entire group, in which case, nicely done, host. Some props have been heavily abused as expected, but everything worked fine. There were a few abstract puzzles but kept you could think your way through.

The puzzles were very challenging. I would most likely still be in there if I had been by myself. There were lots to do. I like the props. They combined our group with another making it 9 people which made it crowded. Sometimes we had a hard time communicating, because there was no one leader and everyone was working on different things. This was my first time so I didnt know what to expect, but it might be cool to have stuff in the room with lights and sound effects and for sure smaller groups.

Its one of the very so-so rooms weve been to. Its ran-down, the host stays with you in the room, the puzzles are boring, and things are not working there. For example, we could open the final lock even before we solved any final puzzles. As it turned out, it wasnt properly locked in the first place. Also, 10 people limit for a room that could take maximum of 6 was not good either. If youre really into escape rooms, Id definitely NOT recommend this one.

I had high hopes for this escape room, since it has such good ratings online. However, I was disappointed on a number of fronts:- The puzzles mostly amounted to finding a number which is used to unlock a padlock. There were at least five instances where you needed to do that, which was repetitive and boring. Furthermore, you can brute force padlocks relatively easily, which makes it uninteresting.- The props were of mediocre quality; there was no interactivity.- The room was dirty, bordering on filthy; there was hair on the floor, lots of fluff, and some of the props were sticky. This arguably could have been part of the set, but I remain highly sceptical.- The game master started cleaning the room up to its original state before we had finished.- The capacity was too high; ten people (eleven if you count the game master) in such a small room is both very loud and very hot.- $30 per person is extortionate, with ten people thats $300 which is absolutely not worth it for the experience. It would be much better if only ~five people were in the room (from a price standpoint and from a heat/noise standpoint).Despite the above lambasting, The Room gets two stars, since it did function correctly as an escape room (1 star would be if it was somehow dysfunctional).

Ryptic Room Escape was, by far, the best Escape the Room experience Ive had. Having gone to over 5 different rooms, Ryptic differentiated itself with puzzles that were hard enough to be engaging but not so difficult that they led to frustration. We came in a larger group of 7 and had a great time debating what to do next in the rooms. Its definitely worth checking out and the game masters make the whole experience far more fun. Theyre entertaining, helpful, and know how to show you a good time. 100% recommend!

A group of friends and I did Escape from the Aliens, and we got out in 51 minutes. The puzzle complexity is comparable to the ones in SF, although the production value is lacking. Use your hints wisely and make sure you look and jot down everything you see. Also, you can check in to Facebook and Yelp to gain additional hints. All in all, we had fun, and I would recommend it.

Attended for a bachelor party with 7 other guests. Puzzles were challenging but surmountable, hints were helpful and not coy or misleading. Visiting from Germany and having done a number of room escape games in Europe, I found this one didnt meet my expectations.Without spoiling anything, heres the specifics:- The decoration / theme of the room was very bland - for the most part it looked like a regular room with a few shelves. For comparison, try image searching for e.g. room escape Munich - these are usually much more elaborate.- The puzzles involve finding the combination for a combination lock or finding the key to a lock. There was no automation at all in the room. Most games like this rely heavily on electronic systems to allow you to proceed. I.e., hanging pictures on the wall in the correct order and a previously closed drawer will automatically open - this magic adds a lot to make rooms like this interesting. Considering the high price, this was disappointing- The room wasnt in great shape, multiple items of the decoration were broken.- Youre required to buy all 10 slots, or other players can join your session!- TEN people is too much for the room - personally I think 6 is to much and should be the hard upper limit. Especially since the room isnt particularly large
