We saw Hamilton here, and it was an amazing experience. Really, if the play you want to see is here and you are in the bay area, you dont have much of a choice. However, this older theater has great sound, decent visibility, and beautiful ornamentation on the walls. Downsides are the seats are small and bathrooms are few and far between.

This that was amazing... sat on the lower level almost all the way to the right side... Was still a great seat... Dont think theres a bad seat in the house. The theater was built in 1926 and the architecture is way cool... The craftsmanship and artistry in the building was a cool part of the experience. It was designed to look like a French cathedral. Went to see Hamilton and had a friend that took us backstage. Ive been to several theaters on Broadway in NY... and this takes the Cake for me. Quality of the product was top notch.

Seeing Hamilton here was a dream. The actors and actresses did so amazing its not even funny. No seat here is a bad seat because I got one in the back of the bottom row, and I still got the whole experience of seeing the full stage. The only thing is how expensive the tickets are (but what theatres tickets arent). I only got mine for 10 dollars because I won lottery for it. Other than that I would totally recommend.

Beautiful older theatre that is well maintained. The lounge area is pleasant with pretty blue velvet sitting areas. Seats in the theatre are a bit small but were comfortable. As always, could use more womens restrooms for a public facility. Architecture is interesting and sound and sight lines are good from almost anywhere (we were in balcony). No coat check so be aware you will have limited room to deal with any outer wear.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here for “Hamilton.” The zests we’re comfortable and there’s no bad seats in this theatre. The snacks are a little pricey but for a night out it was worth it. Parking was easy and a short walk. I suggest booking your parking online just for ease. You can also take BART and get off at Civic Center. The theatre is located right above the station.

This is a beautiful historic theater and absolutely stunning on the inside. The lobby is semi small but not too bad. The bar area is a decent size and serves some decent beers and wine. If youre interested in a shirt or other memorabilia, you have to get in line ASAP because the line is forever long. Also, if you have to go to the bathroom, expect a HUGE line for both the men and womens bathrooms. Its really bad. Also, Im not sure that they have a gender neutral bathroom yet, which is odd.Another good part is that its RIGHT next to the Bart station exit, if youre into public transit. Overall I love this place, just wish the lines were shorter.

Orpheum is a cozy, old-school comfortable kind of space. It has that vintage 1920s style. The sound and lighting systems appear excellent, the only complaint one might have is that it needs more bathrooms and it can get crowded in the hallways between the shows. It is very conveniently located right off market Street with Bart, trolley and MUNI access. I would definitely not drive there if you could help it.Make sure to go to Sams diner close-by for excellent meals themed after the current show.

Staff was able to get us to our seat promptly. The snack bars were really fast and gave us a tip about about buying water then refilling at the water fountains. We got the chance to watch Hamilton! My friend always enters the tickets lottery every day, and won multiple times, so he offered me his tickets for a show. Incredible musical-Beautiful interior-Sprint for the bathroomMy wife and I went to see Hamilton at the Orpheum and the building is incredible. If I were an architect or art scholar, I would have the vocabulary to correctly describe what this theater looks like, but as it is, I can say it’s gorgeous. We bought tickets for a reasonable price and found out we were in “Obstructed View Seats.” I realized this day of and told my wife to temper her expectations (aka, lower them). As it was, we could see most of the stage, save whatever was happening in the back right corner. It was still a wonderful experience and the view did not disturb us enough to take us out of the show. That being said, the bathrooms in the building are the true testing ground. If you are a gentleman, you need not rush unduly, but if you are lady, put on a helmet and shoulder pads. Be prepared to stiff arm an erudite theater critic because after five minutes, the line extends to city hall.Overall a wonderful experience! Enjoy the show and don’t drink a lot of water beforehand.

This theatre is an SF “institution” and to watch Hamilton in this revered building is a treat. There are no bad seats, the acoustics superbly complement the ornate interior of the theatre that gives you a feel of a golden era of musical theatre. Who doesnt like the theater? The building is aged, the seats are dated, but there isnt a bad seat in the house...for goodness sakes its a landmark. I watched Hamilton at the Orpheum Theatre around two weeks ago and I have to say that it was one of my favorite shows. The Orpheum definitely had a part in it. The interior is beautifully decorated. This is a rating of the theatre, not the performance. Overall I loved the theatre. It was easy to get in, seated and I was comfortable throughout the performance. Even on our back stage tour I was impressed with how everything was set up and being about to see the full upper levels, etc. The only downside is that there is only one mens bathroom downstairs and its impossible for everyone to use it in the time they give for intermission. They need to set up a better system for organizing people to the bathroom.

Review №37

Once in line for the show, everyone was very helpful and attentive. However, the recent but permanent closure of Market St. to private vehicles means that the passenger drop off area is on Hyde on the left side of the street. For people using mobility devices, that means slowly exiting the vehicle in the middle of traffic. On the way out of the theatre after we were able to explain the problem to the theatre security, they stood out in their orange vests and warned cars away from us. Make sure to send someone to ask security for help if you need it.

Its a beautiful theatre with wonderful acoustics. The mix of styles in the architecture is interesting and you get a nice sense of the buildings history. Seating is a little tight and the seats arent the most comfortable, but thats to be expected in an older building. Several bathrooms and bars keep intermission from getting too chaotic. In my opinion, the best seats are on the life/mezzanine level.

Charming, intimate, historic venue with high-quality productions in a sad, depressed neighborhood. We ate lunch 1st at Union Square and walked the 15 min down Market St, which was easy, though I almost stepped in a large pile of poop (canine or human?). This is a historic building with historic amenities, but its clean, the architecture is lovely, the temp inside comfortable and the seats roomier than some theaters. The relatively small size made us feel really connected to the stage and the performers. Theres a small bar with a few packaged snacks for hangry emergencies.

Cozy Theatre with Old Time Charm - way too crowded facilities. The prices for water and candy were riduculous, so we got out of the line ... $5 for a pack of small candy ...The latecomeres disturb the enjoyment of the play so much!!! Saw Hamilton at this theater. Love the old architecture and it has lots of character. Because it is an older theater, the seats are very close together, so if your short and someone tall sits in front of you, your view of the stage will be obstructed. Also, not a lot of leg room with the seats in front of you. However, most seats will give you a pretty good view and the acoustics are fantastic.

Watched Hamilton 3 times here so far. Once from the middle back of the mezzanine, the left of the mezzanine (pictured), and the back of the orchestra level. From the middle back of the mezzanine, the front of the stage might be covered by the heads in front of you, but the stage is mostly completely visible. From the far left of the mezzanine, the nearest stage back corner wont be visible, but you have a good view of the rest of the stage and the conductor. From the back of the orchestra, theres a good view of the stage, but the ceiling (mezzanine) enters into your field of view and feels pretty low.The seats are comfortable. The bathroom lines are very long. The bathrooms are also kind of confusing to find for both mens and womens restrooms. The ceiling is beautiful! Really nice staff as well.

Beautiful theater. Located right next to a bart station stop. Great acoustics. Able to see the stage well even from the upper levels in the back. One problem is that the aisles are not well lit to see the stairs, so make sure during a show you either use the help of the ushers or you use your phone flashlight to find your seat. Takes a long time at concessions and not everything is located on the other floors, so you need to go down to the main lobby for a variety of concessions. Has plenty of bathrooms if you look. One bathroom even has a downstairs with many different stalls. A little confusing to navigate to seating, so ask the workers as you go along.
