Fantastic venue. There are few better examples of upgraded, modernized space than the Strand Theater. This old theater has gone through many changes. But the latest is the best. This is a modern, comfortable venue for live performing arts. Seats are comfortable, auditorium is ultra modern, and best of all the bathrooms are large and clean. there is a concession stand and coffee shop just inside the front door. The staff including the security guards are friendly and helpful.
This is a really nice location and venue for seeing a show. We saw Small Mouth Sounds which was great and our usher also upgraded our seats. However the people working at the cafe were not having a good night and not only werent friendly but they made me the wrong drink. It was close enough to Showtime that I just took that drink, which was fine.
Small theatre. Great place for small venue. Also has a very good cafe that also serves beer & wine.
Seating was shaky when people moved (we were seated on the upper mezzanine). Also, seating was a little tight. And the top bar of the wall facing the stage was difficult to see over for people sitting in the first row who are shorter (52). Although, the play was very good....
Very nice place to watch live theater. It serves as a cafe in the morning time and live theater by night ticket prices are not too pricey depending on where your sitting they do serve alcohol and they have private security manning both the front and back exits to ensure play goers enjoy a safe and secure time
We saw a show called Weightless. Every seat in this theater has great views! Small and intimate yet seats a good amount of people. Decent snacks selection and a few beers and wine in the lobby. ALL the staff are amazing and very friendly. Definitely worth a trip.
The Strand Theater on Market street in San Francisco, in 2019, is a beautiful renovation of a building and movie theater, originally built in 1917. There is a 283-seat theater all seats have excellent views of the stage. There is a 120-seat event and performance space, and a beautiful high ceiling lobby with a gigantic projection screen and there is a cafe. I enjoy attending plays by A.C.T. here. I also like the quick access to BART and other public transportation.
Its a great theatre, decent bar food at the cafe, varying levels of performance. This was a ACT MFA program, pretty good.
Great venue with a string of solid performances over the last few years.
Productions here sparkle with creativity and talent. San Francisco is fortunate to be the home of the American Conservatory Theater, as both students and faculty work diligently to bring professional performances to life. Many productions done by ACT that I have seen, rival productions I have attended at Yale, on Broadway in New York, and even London.
Great place seen Gloria Awesome Staff
This facility houses two top-notch small theaters, with great sightlines, roomy seats and the quality performances that A.C.T. is known for. The smaller of the two theaters is on the top floor. The larger theater has a raked, 2-tiered main floor as well as a balcony. Theres a bar/cafe in the lobby that is open to all. A great venue to see theater!
Nice intimate theater, every seat is good and plenty of legroom
This theatre is really amazing and they have a bunch of amazing shows hosted there. I go all the time to see what new plays, musical etc they have.
Its a really cool, ultra modern space, but the lines are really long and service slow.
I loved the production of Her Portmanteau. Well crafted writing and acting. The theater itself was intimate and comfortable until it came to the seats. There are horrific metal bars on each side which looked chic; however, they rode directly on my femoral head, pushing the ball into my hip socket. It was a physically uncomfortable 95 minutes. Now, three hours later my hip socket still aches. Damn.
I loved it so much here!! Well everything but the popcorn. Not enough flavour, better cold the next day. The seats were incredible, huge couchs.
I havent seen a show here but I plan to. I had coffee here and it was delicious. Highly recommend. Everyone was so kind and helpful. My husband and I had a wonderful experience.
Definitely a beautiful theater. Modern design, with a great high ceiling. Great staff! Nice, clean, helpful, non-invasive. The seats are great and the equipment seems to work beautifully.I got to see a GREAT show. On Beckett with Bill Irwin. Really inspiring, fun and got to talk about Beckett. Obviously short. Theres so much to talk and see of the work and so little time.Didnt get to eat in the cafe. But people seemed to enjoy what they were eating and drinking. I would just watch my time because the cafe closed a while before the show and opened once again an hour and a half before the show. I know thats plenty of time before the show but if its winter, and its kind of rainy out and you dont know a lot of nearby cafes, look for a nearby option on Google Maps to keep you comfy before the show.
This offshoot of American Conservatory theater puts on quality shows in a lovely restored historic theater. Ive enjoyed all the plays that I have seen here. This is a smaller theater than ACT which in some ways makes the experience more enjoyable.
ACTs smaller, more intimate performance space, upscale yet comfortable.
Great Staff. Slow morning due to rain. Staff had has a great conversation with me.
Very nice. Easy via muni, BART. Nice cafe. Good play.
This was a nice little discovery! Went for a small tech conference and found the theater to be quite nice. Now Im hoping to find a show playing there that Id like to attend. The entire space is modern and up to date. The theater itself is small enough to feel intimate. Seating is comfortable and seems recently remodeled.
The cafe out front is staffed by great people and has a solid selection of quality beverages and small bites. The theater itself isnt the biggest, but the atmosphere is cozy and energetic, the performance(s) on stage drawing in the audience due to the close proximity of the seats to the stage.
The Kilbane s Rock Opera WEIGHTLESS was super. The space warm & comfortable.
Love this place! ACT did an amazing job with the remodel. They also program some of the best shows here in this smaller space. Its wonderful.
Tall people: there is leg room! I was amazed, I sat down in my seat and there was more than two inches from my knees to the seats ahead of me. Not once during the performance did I bump the seat in front of me trying to shift, or lose circulation in my legs because of some crazy angle I had to be in to fit. It is so rare for me to find a theater with legroom that this is a BIG thing for me.The seats are comfortable, 90 minute show with no intermission and I was as find when it ended as I was when I sat down. Im not a huge person but space is an issue and neither my wife or the person to my other side seemed crowded, I know I wasnt. Its a small theater and I suspect there really isnt a bad seat in the house.I like the shiny but relaxed feel of the place. A doorman to let you in, small cafe with some seats and tables for people to relax before the show. Friendly staff.I came to this theater because of the show but from now on Im going to be watching their schedule specifically because I loved the ambiance.
Great theater with amazing live shows. Even has a cafe in the lobby that stays open during the day.
Nice compact theater. Portmanteau was a great play.
Gorgeous modern theatre with great sightlines and comfortable seating.
Such a gorgeous theater!
Great show with the A.C.T. students. Love this small theater, even the cheap seats are excellent.
Men on Boats show exceeded expectations. Great venue in transformed Cinema house, steps from BART
Thought provoking shows often highlighting local talent
Professionally presented theater troupes in modern airy facility with latest sound and lighting.
Another great place for small events. Great setup of stage and multi level accessible stairs. Great sound system. Also an in house cafeteria and ticket counter helps a lot.
Great show, great space, a really good time
Beautiful, intimate theater with well-stocked cafe, wide seats, and ample legroom.
The venue is relatively small but they make excellent use of the space. I was here recently for a Google event and I never felt cramped in the space in spite of all of the people who were there. Perfect space for a medium sized event (not too small, not too large)
Came for dance performance in the courtyard.
Not a bad seat in the house. A good venue for acoustic performances; no miking needed.
Not a bad seat in the house. However, the neighborhood is still a little sketchy.
The sandwiches were delicious!
Excellent acoustics and sightlines
A wonderful small venue for A.C.T. to present entertainers. It a good show.
Nice, new theater. Huge, contemporary lobby. Bad, unsafe location. Outside has a ton of homeless people, drug dealers, and drug addicts.
Fun theater, great performances! Seat design makes it really difficult to go past people.
Was there for a private event. Great at venue!
Wonderful. Get season tickets, I do.
This is a nice space for smaller intimate shows. The lobby space has a bar and lots of seating. They have smaller rooms available for private functions.
BTW, last row (Q) has more leg room.
Sush a beautiful space, very talented group of people and excited to come back!
ACTs newish theater on Market Street which offers a more intimate theatrical experience than the Curran. It has a too small cafe for the audiences it serves, but it is welcome nonetheless.
Great performance space (we were in the Reuff).
Seats need extra padding. Its uncomfortable sitting for 3 hours. Great little venue.
Great venue for live theater
Nicely renovated, uncomfortable seats in an equally uncomfortable neighborhood, especially when you get out from an evening performance.
Caught Vietgone. Fantastic play!
Small theater, all seats good
Intimate theater space with always top notch live theater
Nice inside. Sketchy characters on street near BART entrance.
Modern House of Arts! Excelent !
Good acoustics good seats wine and beer in the lobby
Friendly staff, from the doorman to the baristas to the ushers. The space is modern, efficient, and comfortable.
Very comfortable seats, friendly staff, and excellent productions.
Pretty tight quarters but I guess that depends on what kind of show youre here to see. Clean digs, sketchy location at times.
Can get a drink and snack before the play
Great venue
Helpful staff, extraordinary performance!
I attend A C T perfermances at this theater .
Great venue
New ACT theater. Venue is oddly shaped, but no bad seats.
Bill Irwin on Beckett Loved it!
Another great rehabbed theater
Beautiful space, but small.
Seats are not the most comfortable and the theater is small but their performance was amazing
