Charming & small music venue in the heart of the Mission district. A bit haunting, but cozy nonetheless & great vibe for intimate shows. Love the stage set-up & wooden floors. There are two bars-one in the main room & one upstairs in the mezzanine area. Will definitely be back to catch future shows.
Great because they get Chappelle. No point going other wise. It’s usually dead if you’re just walking by. They need to put more seats up for their comedy shows.
Took care of us when bought 2 two tickets for 2000.00 on stubhub that where fake ! They sold us 2 tickets for 200.00 second row Dave Chapelle show ! Awesome
Everything was meticulously crafted and served for an amazing eating experience. The service was impeccable and friendly!
Nice spot. Went to concert there. Place had a great sound system and the venue was nice. The atmosphere is great. Alcohol is expensive but then again its San Francisco.
The performance venue and restaurant/bar have a sophisticated, yet relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant/bar feels like a British pub and the performance venue is illuminated by a red light. I saw Laurie Anderson, Terry Riley, and John Zorn play an inspiring improvisational 1 hour concert. I would definitely return.
The food at Curio was delicious. The fact we got to go into the show ahead of time was awesome. The Chapel is a great venue for shows. Loved it. I would come back again any day.
The venue is pretty cool although there were people smoking inside and during a hot show where you mosh having cigarette/weed filled aired makes it feel a little hard to breath
This is a very cool venue.
Craig Finn sounds good here
The Chapel is a very charming event venue that also has a bar and a restaurant linked to it. The venue is very cozy yet feels spacious with just a few chairs and tables at the back. The lighting is amazing and really helps set the atmosphere. They always have sold out shows for independent artists. Drinks reasonably priced.
Awesome vintage monastery made into a bar!! They constantly have live music playing as well as great drinks. Tried their Lady Guadalupe and it was great. Different from all the other places in the Mission. Definitely worth coming.
Lovely place to have some drinks and see a rock and roll show. Or other kinds of shows, I dont know, I went to a rock and roll show there.
I love almost everything about this place. Great vibes, great sound. The only reason I wont give it 5 stars is the lighting. Ive seen two shows here and both times the lighting was not good. It was distracting and didnt fit the music at all. Other than that, Ill be returning to the Chapel for more shows!
Amazing beautiful little venue, beers were kinda pricey tho
Fun place for live events with garage parking close by. Their website is very informative on directions, menu, and schedule of events. We attended the Sundays Finest Gospel Brunch and it was a riot!!!! Recommended. The live music was great and wish there were more !!! The pastor stayed true to his form welcoming the flock and delivering the sermon. It was all fun!!! Chapel has wonderful bartenders and they were not pushy at all. Clean place in the Valencia-Mission area.
Great rock nightclub venue in the mission. The Chapel is quickly becoming the go to venue for touring rock bands of a certain stature in the punk, indie and alternative rock scenes. Good sound, good sight lines, and an upstairs lounge area if you dont want to stand elbow to elbow with the true believers down below.
Nice place to brunch great burger.
Great venue, has a really cool aesthetic being a former mortuary. Seems like the shape of the building also lends to the place having good acoustics. The upstairs is pretty cool too if you can manage to grab a spot before the crowds arrive.
I am a wedding coordinator who had a wedding at the Chapel. This is a historic music venue and everything here made the wedding so perfect. The tasty food and the excellent service as well as the vibrant and romantic ambiance all impressed our guests. Highly recommend!
Great concert venue in San Fran! Great drinks, and waiters were very friendly. Would definitely go back for a concert.
Great venue for gigs. Nice bar also, didnt get chance to dine.
Nice small venue with multiple bars and unique vibe.
Beautifully renovated venue with attached bar. Cool upstairs balcony as well, a definite spot for excellent live music. If a band you like is playing here, make a point to check it out. Be prepared for the standard $$ concert cocktails.
The restaurant and bar are really good. When you go, ask for Shane, hes the most super cool server. They make some very strong drinks, have a nice beer selection diversity and good wines. The brunch is a limited menu, and be warned, they can only do poached eggs. That said, they have very good flavor in everything they make.
Seemed cool enough. Low key, not to wild. Didnt really eat any food, but the drinks were fine. Ill definitely come back though.
My company hosted karaoke with a live band here. The venue was incredible and prefect for company events. The staff was great and so was the food.
The Chapel is a nice place. The building is nice and the sign for shows was bright which makes it easier to find. There was one bartender there and not much seating on the first floor. However, they have an upstairs with tables and chairs. Overall really nice place. Also security was nice enough to let my friends and i know we can return since we got the stamp for 21+
I came here for a special event, and I was impressed with many of the appetizers and drinks that the Chapel serves. The finger food was exotic and tasty, and the cocktails were well-made. Located right on Valencia, its a good place to stop by if youre out in the Mission!
Nice bar & restaurant. I havent been to a show here yet, but really enjoyed the vibe and food. Drinks were good and well balanced, although it takes a while to get your order. We shared several small plates, which were all pretty tasty. I really enjoyed the flatbread and meatballs. Service was also friendly, and the atmosphere is cool despite looking like a dungeon from the outside. Will definitely be back to try their brunch and outdoor patio sometime.
The Chapel was a great venue to catch a show. It definitely reminded me of being in a church and oozed an intimate vibe. The floor was a good size and you can see the stage at any point.
The Chapel is an amazing place to be. They follow that trend of keeping the old structure and turning it to something new. They have their own beers which is a must try. Its in my neighborhood, they serve beers and have appetizers and they have music. Relax and casual vibe, what more can I ask for.
Great place to see a jump around garage rock show or a sit-down acoustic folk concern. Heard this thing was once a school or a mortuary from various people through the years. Bartenders very friendly, option for PBR, second bar and bathroom upstairs.
Good chicken!
From the quality of the music and entertainment to the fine food and drink. This place is fabulously fun and super unique and always a spot we go when we are in town. Highly recommend you check it out.
Where do I start?! We came from Sacramento to meet up with a friend from one of the bands playing that night. Had our fair share of eclectic experiences that day and when we got to The Chapel it was nothing but good vibes cool ass staff and the bands playing that night were awesome. I have never experienced an ambiance, treatment and psychedelic music all wrapped up in one.... You guys Rock!!! Thank you and will definitely see each other next time we consider San Francisco one of our destinations... Much Love and shout out to Natural Child We Love You..pB)
This is not a bad spot for drinks in the Mission. The drinks are actually really tasty and you can find yourself throwing more than one back. The food was tasty! We had fried chicken, which was really good and the mussels, which also were really tasty, and I dont even like mussels.I had the bartender make me some drinks, but didnt ask what they were. All I know is that they were delicious tequila treats! On prior visits I had the Jalapeño Margarita, and that was also delicious.
This place is great!! A very cool medium sized place with an amazing staff. The sound guy knows his stuff, too. The audio is tops, I bet the acoustics with the awesome architecture plays a big part. Just saw Exodus here and although it was crowded, it wasnt uncomfortable. The place fit everybody adequately and was easy to maneuver around. Heard that they dont do many metal gigs, which is a shame since this place is perfect for that genre in my opinon. But hey, theres a flyer for them hosting P.I.L. (Johnny Rotten) in the lobby, so regardless, looks like they got some pretty great bands coming through anyway.
Extremely limited seating, expect to stand. As is often the case, drinks are very very expensive. I liked the performance I went to see, but this venue was not my favorite. To be fair, it was clean and well furnished and the staff was friendly.
Music venue, bar, restaurant space. Well known acts that come through. The bar space works well for a single craft cocktail at the bar, or to bring the gang for a round out two. Adjacent is a restaurant lounge if youre looking for eats.
I saw a retro rock band here. The Chapel has everything you would want -- good sound system, light show, bar, adjoining restaurant (the vestry) ans well as something you dont usually get on Valencia street -- a high ceiling. You thought chapels had low ceilings, like the mortuary chapel 7 blocks south? Well, think again. Before and after the show, its nice to walk around and look at the shops and the crowd.
Easily one of the best places to see a show in the entire Bay Area. You can tell that they treat both the audience and artists well because people tend to have a really good time here.
This place is awesome. The food smells AMAZING, my only regret is not having been able to order anything. Next time I swear I will, and I will review it!This review, however, is for the venue. The space is actually quite small, so dont expect a night club or anything. Given the size however, The Chapel still manages to fit a fairly large number of people, if not at the bar, or the dance floor, then at the second bar inside on the second floor. I definitely recommend coming here for a show or concert, as those happen quite often. The crowd is always young and fun and you can expect to have a good time.
Atmosphere: Intimate music venue. I loved the lighting for Beth Ortons concert. I liked that we could also hang out in the bar and still see the show.Decor: It was pretty dark inside but the bar tables and stools were comfy enough. The downstairs bar had a cozy feel.Service: Great cocktail menu and the bartenders were responsive.
I came to the Chapel for an event sponsored by Photojojo and Sony with free drinks and appetizers. While my experience here might not have been typical, it was definitely great! Servers walked around with various cocktails that were created especially for this event. I really enjoyed all the drinks and the service was outstanding. There were also small appetizers - my favorite being some sort of thing with endive and goat cheese. I would be interested to come back and see if this place is at all similar on a normal evening.
Great venue for corporate parties. Came here near holiday season for a company party of about 100 people. Its very spacious, the menu they served hors doeuvre style was fantastic. There were plenty of staff on site to help, plenty of bar staff so getting drinks was a snap. Karaoke was a hit!
Misleading, not a night club and not an ex-chapel
So this place is a really awesome space but I think they could do more with it, I mean, are two huge bars necessary? Why not turn one of them into a suave lounge, or an art gallery, or something... anything...My favorite part of this venu is the stage/dance hall... its GIANT, and it looks really cool when they light it up with colored lights. But over all the walls are sparsely decorated and could use some art.
Food was delicious as well as drinks. Super cool well lighted atmosphere. Catch a dope local show right afterwards!
Really cool spot for live gigs. Excellent sound, two bars and is connected to The Vestry which is a nice spot to eat. Looking forward to catching another show here.
Beautiful music venue with many amenities that even much larger spaces dont have. I esp. like their upstairs balcony area which has a great view of the stage and even TVs showing the stage when you back up to the bar area.
Mike! Manager on Duty was excellent last Saturday night. Great bar, great music. Good job!
Such a cool venue. The vaulted ceilings catch the light show really well and their upper balcony is fun.
Staff is very rude. Disappointed
DO NOT GO IT IS HAUNTED
Good drink selection and headliners, but twice now the opening bands here have been absolutely awful.
The Chapel is a cozy venue but it provides a really authentic experience. Get there early if you want a seat in the balcony. Drinks are on-point as well.
Located in Mission District in hipster central, Valencia Street, The Chapel is one of my favorite new spots in the city. Not only a bar, but a music venue. The Chapel just opened up recently and has already hosted big names, like Grouplove and Dave Chapel, as well as numerous smaller acts that I love. The Chapels bar is open to the public, so a ticket is not required. You can either grab a drink before the show or just stay there all night. The stage area is pretty small, relative to larger venues, but The Chapel mainly hosts indie and upcoming artists. I caught one of my favorite bands, Widowspeak, and got to meet the band. While the venue isnt huge, I prefer that I can get close and intimate with the music. I can actually see the artists. The tickets are affordable, there music acts are amazing, the bar is a cool spot, and the location is very convenient. What more can I ask for?The Chapel is a great place for dates, drinks, catching a great show, or just hanging out. I highly recommend catching a show at The Chapel!Ill catch you there.
Never knew how big this venue was, but I was really impressed by how beautiful it is. It has so much character !
Super cool little venue dig the upstairs
Great venue to see a show. The lady Guadalupe cocktail is awesome. Food is not great and expensive.
Beautiful arched ceiling, this place was once an chapel that was converted to a restaurant/bar/nightclub. The attached restaurant called the Vestry, with an outdoor pation, can be booked for private parties, and offers a variety of seasonal menu items. The also host Sports Night, which is free, where they broadcast the live games of the Giants, 49ers, etc. Fun all around!
Amazing space for live music, its an intimate setting with a great view from every spot. Friendly bartenders and a good selection.
Great new venue in the Mission. The sound is good, and decent size. Like the bar seating that allows you to see the show and drink at the same time.
Little hole in the wall where you can see some obscure artists. And 2 bars
Great local and national axis acts. The loft upstairs is awesome
Great venue for a holiday party. Lots of open space and great drink selection.
Nice venue for live music. Feels a bit stuffy at times, and the sound could use a little love, but they offer a professional venue and quality location.
Great live music venue, was a church has an interesting echo. Usually good live bands.
Nice intimate space. Worst sound Ive heard at a venue in a long time. Need a new engineer and a lot more speakers!
Neat small venue. Decent snacks, lots of bars, ok sound.
Awesome and intimate venue. Never a bad spot in the place.
I have been here for a concert as well as a wedding and it was a great venue for both.
Awesome music venue. Great sound and they always have talented musicians.
I went to the Chapel with my partner and two wonderful friends on Valentines Day this year. We even had reservations.... granted it was a very very very very crowded night. The server took so very long to bring the menus and did not take our orders for nearly 35 minutes.Service - neglectful. We placed our orders and decided to wait for the food to come out - looked as though the other patrons were receiving their food in a timely and efficient manner. For some reason, our orders took a very long time to prepare - sooooo very very very long in fact, that our friends had to have their food packed in to-go boxes and they rushed out in time to make it on time for their other Valentines Day events punctually.Due to the tardiness of the food and the extremely sloooooooow service, the manager comped the alcoholic beverages AND two of the entrees (our friends dinner meals). The food was tasty and I would rate the quality of the entrees 3 out of 5. Service was not even 0.5 stars - but the management and the food made up for the less than stellar Valentines meal.Lesson learned - make Valentines Day reservations for places that are known to provide good service AND good food on special couples nights in San Francisco.
What a great venue, how did it take so long for us to get to a show there?!
Incredible venue. Great sound. Beaut room. Respect
I saw Coin and Bad Suns at the Chapel and the entire concert was amazing. Great venue with a view above as well as under the stage with a bar in the venue area as well as outside of it if you need to catch your breath.
Anyone that is tired of having to treck all the way to Bottom of the Hill or go to the Hemlock is in store for a real steal of a show! I was outside and before I bought a ticket for the show, a couple gave me an extra ticket! Talk about a San Francisco Experience. The accoustics, the sound, and vibe are similar to somewhere not in SF. Id say Leeds or L.A. The drinks run $1 more than a few blocks away. If you can, go upstairs, and if youre really lucky, get VIP! ALL 5 stars from here, only thing that would have made it better is if I was on stage playing! :)
I saw Surfer Blood here. I thought it was a really cool venue, especially for a small show.
Saw noname. The venue is a bit small but it was still fun.
Fairly unknown for their brunch, this place has a fair amount of seating, full bar with some well-made drinks, and friendly staff. Their brunch selection ranges from a creative and tasty eggs benedict to an epic bananas foster french toast. The decor consists mostly of the converted chapel with rich woods and warm lighting. The music is upbeat and funky. On Sundays you will find DJs spinning Motown for a dancey brunch. ;) The best part is the lack of line for such a tasty brunch in the city. You cant beat that.
Very cool vibe. Great venue for concerts.
Atmosphere isnt amazing, but they do strong drinks and I liked it here
Just arrived, but based on what Ive seen so far, it looks nice. Here for the Joy Formidable.
Amazing place. The lighting alone was worth the ticket. Beer can get expensive tho
Small venue, not a bad place to stand to see bands
Incredible environment but half of the bar got extremely loud to the point that the music was blaring and I could not hear the server. The drinks were relatively affordable and the staff was quite attentive. Thankfully there was a more quiet area for us to go but it was clearly the usual restaurant area.
Great place for drinks and live music, Valencia can be busy, parking is tight, lots of people on bikes watch out!!!
Exceptional small venue to see live music; one of the best in SF. Small bars upstairs and at rear of venue with limited options; larger adjacent full bar (The Vestry) has great cocktails and food.
Beautiful medium sized music venue. The beer is really expensive and served in plastic cups.
Great cocktails and an intimate venue to see music.
Stopped in for a drink and ended up seeing a free show. We really enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere!
