Love the Hyde St. Pier Historic Ships! I remember when this completed, I read an article about it in my Westways monthly magazine! Today was my second vista... and I still wish I timed it for a visit at night! Theres also Hyde St. Pier Historic Ships next to this installation! Cant beat that!

This place was alright. For myself it was a three star visit. It had interesting old boats to wander around and old cars in the boats. As a piece of history it is very interesting. If I had kids I think this place would be so much better. There were classes of kids being led around by two actors dressed as sea captains. They kept making the kids yell out things like, Aye Captain! They were tasked with the things that people on the boats usually would have. It was adorable. So for a kid this place is awesome. For an adult its just cool.

I really enjoyed seeing the ships and learning about the Maritime History of San Francisco. The main museum is free and a couple of blocks up. There is more history in the indoor museum, but the pier has actual ships you can walk around and explore. For a history and sailing buff like me it was like heaven on earth, but my wife was not as impressed. She enjoyed seeing the ships but was not as enthralled with the inner workings as I was. I have a Federal Parks Pass, so we got in free. I would have paid the entry fee, but recommend small children and wives may lose interest quickly. For vehicle enthusiast, they have many resorted vehicles on the ferry boat with some great history.

Very exciting experience. A plethora of historic vessels and exhibits made this place very fulfilling. I appreciate how you can actually board and explore the ships, rather than viewing from afar. This is a must for any naval history buff.

Check out some United States of American history at this location. It is $10 to board and stroll the historic ships. It is a great place to go back in time, where Your Imagination Can Travel to the 19th Century. There are seven(7) historic ships and they are the following:; 1886 square-rigger Balclutha, 1895 schooner C. A. Thayer, 1890 steam ferryboat Eureka, 1891 scow schooner Alma, 1907 steam tug Hercules, 1914 paddlewheel tug Eppleton Hall, and last but not least, the 1890 (circa) San Francisco Bay Ark. I recommend it it for the whole family and its very educational. If you are a history buff like I am, then this place is a must. Bring a water bottle, and I believe there is a bathroom near the entrance. Its in close proximity to other establishments and restaurants. I parked in a public meter for $4 and hour. Come early to avoid large crowds!

Wonderful historic ships! When my wife and I came to Ghirardelli Square, we were just walking around and stumbled upon this little gem. Couldnt have been more pleased with what we found! The ships are really well maintained and in excellent condition. Lots of history in each vessel. I also thought it was cute that the staff also would do tours for kids and allow them to be part of a ships crew. Not sure how to reserve that, but they kids seemed like they were having a blast.

A great place to spend a few hours. Interesting ships, very good layout, and hours of well-written dialogue to give you a glimpse into how life was in the past. They have very knowledgeable staff to give detailed tours and a lot of well-placed signs with excellent descriptions. Great stop for any people of any age.

In 5th grade we went here for an overnight field trip and it was lots of fun! It was to simulate what working on a ship was like in 1906, and even though it was hard work I had fun! I was on the boat crew and we learned how to row a boat but unfortunately the place where they launched the boat from was being repaired. One of the things we did was night watch were we took turns “guarding” the ship at night, my shift was at 3 am and boy was the city beautiful, especially ghiradelli square. It was somewhat concerning that people were swimming in the freezing water that early in the morning.

You can truly step back in time and view some of the boats that were part of the Port of San Franciscos Rich shipping history, moving Goods, people before the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, and other Maritime vessels across the world. During 2016 and 2017 various boats have been closed for restoration purposes, but it is great to see these historic gems being well-maintained. I was particularly interested in seeing the many historic small boats, but this section was closed on the day of my visit. There was a large school group that was also touring the boats during my visits, and their overall volume and vocal disinterest in seeing the boats did make me feel like a curmudgeony old man. There is a $10 admission fee, but I think it is well worth it for any Maritime history Buffs. Additionally you can check out a very interesting and well done exhibits in the visitors center free of charge and also see model ships and portraits of the sea at The Maritime Museum free of charge. I should also note that if you have a national parks annual pass which can be obtained for $80, you and your family can get to this exhibit included in the price of that pass. It is also good at all national parks.

The ships are very much treated like a park instead of ships. There was little information about them and access was heavily restricted. The ships were cool but I wouldnt recommend paying to go here if you dont have a national parks pass.
