Really fun archery range with a very friendly group of regulars. I learned a bit about archery here and this activity always lowers my stress level. Very peaceful early morning. I wish the city with the vast amount of OUR tax dollars would do their job with replacing bales and maintaining the field instead of relying on good people volunteering their time and money. Damn shame.
Hey it’s free and I haven’t had to wait more than 10-15 min! Just enough time to set up and get in the zone.
No restrooms nearby. Overgrown grass, uneven land and slightly unsafe.
Probably one of the more thrilling classes I took at City College of San Francisco was an archery class, held here. I wish I could keep up on my archery skills. we really are blessed with this treasure that is Golden Gate Park.
There seems to be a big misconception about the condition of the archery bales and who maintains them!Allot of people who come here think the city is maintaining & or is replacing the archery bales in this place.Actually the city hasnt replaced any of the archery bills in many many years now!The bales are repaired & or replaced by the efforts of a few very dedicated people with the bale replacement cost covered by donations! So whenever you hear complaints about the condition of the Bales at the range, please advise the people in question that only through donations will the Bales improve!
I love shooting here. Youre out in the open, in a lovely park, with trees all around. This is a great open range. There are enough bales so you usually do not have to wait long. And, even if there is a wait, you can usually share with someone. The range and bales are pretty well maintained although the bales do get a bit soft towards the end of the year. The range is large enough that you can shoot at any distance up to about 100 yds. This is a self-monitored range so you have to watch out a bit and you need to be mindful to stay in your own lane when moving between the bale and your shooting position. Theres enough parking so thats never been an issue.
This is a great archery range, its protected from westerly winds and usually enjoys lots of sunny days. There are a handful of us who use lanes 7, 8 and 9 and help maintain the range, repair target bales at least twice a year. There is posted set of 10 rules as you enter the range of dos and donts and not allowed. One of these rules says FIELD POINTS ONLY.Yet there are those who insist on throwing knives, spears, Atlatls, broadheads and yes, even crossbows (which are illegal to discharge inside city limits) and as result the bales get torn up quicker. For those of you who are interested in volunteering to help repair the bales, maintain the range contact SF Park and Rec.The ONLY thing that sf park and Rec does for the range is water and cut the grass. THATS IT!!!The cost of repairing of bales is thru donations from a very small group of archers who frequent the range and some of the instructors who holds classes there. The City does NOT help with cost. So, the next time you decide to use the range, remember that its folks like yourself who keep it running so ALL can enjoy this little jewel in Golden Gate Park!
Its a fun place to shoot some arrows. Though the targets are pretty beat up and hollow from all the bits and pieces being taken out of it. And if you miss, you risk shooting your arrows into the trees or bushes which can be a pain to find. Nonetheless, it is a popular and free place to enjoy some shooting.
Take a class with ccsf, youll be outside, learn to shoot a bow, get fresh air, enjoy seeing the cats, gophers and other critters while learning how to take out potential prey. Watch out for gopher holes and crazy advanced archers who shoot from 50 yards out.
Fantastic spot to have in the city, but always in need of maintenance. The new targets are a big improvement though.
Nice big Archery range with targets and rows. Heard there is an archery shop nearby that rents equipment and it looks like there is also lessons available.
Not too crowded when I went and it requires you bring your own targets.
Lots of open lanes during weekday. Free to use.
Polite and relaxed atmosphere makes the unorganized approach to selecting a target easier.
Beautiful and great place for beginners to take up lessons.
A nice free range at which to practice archery.
Come here and act like Robin Hood. Was able to shoot with my vintage longbow with no problems
Nice.
Fun.
Its free...
