Starting out, the trail is noisy with traffic and hard on my arthritic joints as its paved. It gets better after the paving ends. Then there is the option to follow a trail that runs along the foot of a housing development or go closer to Lake Hodges. I didnt get very far this time as my companion and I were not up for the uphill climb. This is not a hard hike, though. Ill definitely be back.

Beautiful trails for hiking and mountain biking. Go early as there is little shade. Wonderful views of lake Hodges. You can easily access the trail to Bernardo mountain. A 7 mile round trip.

Heed the signs at the trailhead that say there is no water on the trail! I am so glad we brought extra water. I would say 90% of the trails have not a scrap of shade, so you are baking in the desert sun. Take advantage of the brief shady spots for water breaks. And make sure you have a map or at least maps on your phone, because the directional signage is too few and far between. We took a wrong turn and wandered pretty far off course before we found a shady spot to stop and check our phones and realized we had to turn around if we wanted to get back to our car before we passed out from dehydration. But if you want to experience wandering in the desert, this is the place to hike!

This is a great place to hike. It is very popular during the cool months and mornings. Be sure to bring plenty of water. It is bike, hike, kid, and dog friendly. Listen for the bells, that means there is a bike coming. There is also a tiny waterfall. Great views and a couple of easy to find geocaches. There is also a lot of signs that talk about the wildlife and the Native Americans that used to call this place home. Its very informative and beautiful.

There was a waterfall yesterday on the interpretive trail. We walked past the Chelseas light memorial. This trail is now part of the Coast to Crest challenge of 2018-2019 so we made sure to make it to the selfie point with our hiking club at Palomar College. For folks that want to do the bridge they can see from the highway. You can park in the same parking lot just walk back up the road like you are going towards the highway ramp. But we did the Piedras Pintadas interpretive trail as its titled on the all trails app. It was a little bit muddy. It became more populated on our way out. Lots of dogs, bikers, and runners. We started at 8 am it there was maybe 15 bikers, 5 runners and 2 large groups in that first hour. But from 9 to 10 it became congested. When we were leaving the parking lot was full, people parked on the street. There was signs labeling the plants, grinding holes and other fun facts along the trail. This trail was 4.2 miles and 377 ft of elevation change. My club and my two kids(5 yo and 7yo) completed it with no problem.

Love the loop around the promontory and going along the lake and back up the road. About 5km with some narrow spots. Can be annoying if there are lots of people coming in the opposite direction. Lots of birds to see on the lake, saw osprey the last couple of times and a species of pelican that seemed different from the ones at the beach.
