Just had to go to see the Great Big Beautiful Wall while in California. Found the entrance to Border Field State Park and was given helpful comments on where to find the beach where the wall enters the ocean.I parked in the car park at the International Friendship Park and walked to the top of the dune system overlooking the ocean. Had a friendly chat with a Border Force Officer who commented on various ways, illegal migrants and refugees use to enter the USA including jet-skis by travelling several miles out to sea beyond the range of their night vision goggles and binoculars. He also pointed out why it was too dangerous to attempt to swim around the ocean wall extension due to rips and eddies that often drowned people attempting to swim to the USA.While I was there the people in Tijuana were celebrating a holiday and it sounded as if the best place to be was in Mexico with a lively Mariachi Band.
Almost all of the photos are of the Mexican side of the border. The US side is a crappy park area with no maintenance on a beautiful nature preserve/estuary. $5 entry and dont expect much, check it off the list worth it. If you ever want your own private beach there are miles. Just dont go in the water, the whole TJ sewage thing.
Im giving this place the same 5 stars as I gave the beach border fence since I find the whole place absolutely fascinating. This park is a short uphill walk from the beach and gives you some great views of the border and surrounding area. Apart from that theres really not much here apart from overgrown and dead gardens, lawns and paths as well as a bunch of picnic tables that have fallen into disrepair. It seems at some point in the past it was a well maintained border crossing/meeting point. But now, in my opinion, it highlights the changing nature of the relationship between the United States and Mexico.
You don’t come her for convenience. If u get here at sunrise u might catch a few A-frames, but the local wind may shut that down quickly. But those a-frames.... pick left/right, be quick and have fun. There’s very few places where a person can surf solo.
The Tension from both Countries Perspective can be seen here its a place you must see where human Borders are created and split families. its a nice hike and a nice beach. If you have your passport you can also within a day travel to the other side to see the perspectives from both sides. For more PhotosInstagram @stevenh83
Great place. Mexican side has much more activity.
Interesting place with nice smell of BBQ from Mexican site
Kind of somber place but a good thing to see if you want to learn about USA. To their credit, the border guards there were very friendly and open to answering questions. Helped to relieve a lot of the anxiety.
Great quick place to eat and mini explorer in the town
My first time to the FRIENDSHIP WALL at Playas de Tijuana and the Toro stadium, which ends at the Pacific Ocean. I was fascinated by the Views, monuments and colourful site!
Nice beach with view of wall. Dont visit if you cant handle Border Patrol agents nearby.
Nice restaurants and great views
Nice Quiet Place
Absolute delight! Way off the beaten track but a beautiful view of the ocean, next to another country in which we share a common area that salutes the absolute corner of the US. It is a beautiful park but looks forgotten. Very peaceful place in he middle of chaos.
Beautiful location, nice beach good food.
Its always cool to look into a different country. A cool learning experience for our son to see what Border Patrol has to endure. I just happened to be shooting a Facebook live when two guys jumped over the fence and were immediately caught. The agents are very nice to answer our questions.
Not the most gorgeous park in the U.S. but it definitely brings one back to whats important. I saw a presentation being given on the Tijuana side of the wall to immigrants that I assumed to be from Central/south America. The presentation was discussing Mexican traditions and other things. I enjoyed the beach. Definitely a thought provoking visit. Will visit again some day.
Love it! Cant wait to go again!
Surreal but pleasant at the same time. There is a little walkway you can go and get right up to the border and people can talk to each other across the border. Although there is a beach, theres signs on the US side saying theres sewage in the water. Although I probably doubt it since on the Mexican side there were dozens of people in the water playing.
Over a mile from the parking lot to the beach. Easy hike, mostly paved roads. Take water. Some areas wet and muddy.
I love the idea of the park. However, it’s really sad to think about the families separated by the fence.I’m all about border security when I’m home in Indiana, but visiting the park makes it really hard on the heart.
Yeah... nice place to hang out.
Nice and people are friendly. Wish that damn big wall didnt have to be there. More trash on the ground than I would have expected. There are some nice small gardens on the walkway coming in.
Border patrol told me they used to allow families to come together to hug until 2 illegals tried to run into America. Now it doesnt open at all. Only takes 1 to ruin it for everyone. Shame.
Beautiful picnic spot to bbq and hear the oceans wave crash.
If you come here on a weekend between 10-2, the Border Agents will let you walk right up to the fence and you can almost reach into Mexico. Oftentimes families will reunite here through the fence. A very powerful place. Deducting 1 star because it is not the best-maintained place.
This is a great spot. I will have to revisit when the gate is open.
Great place to stay for a wonder and think about life in general
Strange place with attack helicopters circling above and a line of pylons on the US side preventing you from going right to the wall to talk with the Mexicans. Jeeps watching me from on top of the hill. Still an interesting vibe, something making me feel very very privileged. Humbling experience if you really immerse yourself in the reality of the situation here.
I only been here for carry-out breakfast by myself, I understand the park opens once a year where USA an MEX families may reunite.
I came over to take a quick trip... Daniel was there giving a little tour to my friend. Woow such a very nice experience!
Nice place to make a quick trip. It cost 5 dollars to go into the park. Its open from 10 am til 2 pm only on the wknds. The bad thing is that they dont let u get close/touch the fence unless your seeing family thats on the other side. But its still a nice to visit just to say youve been there
This is a state park and they do have a fee to enter the park. The condition of the park is poor at best. The road back to the fence is not paved in sections. There wasnt much to see they did have a restroom which I needed to use I think that was their biggest plus. It was a okay view. And seeing as the park has been in the news so much recently because of illegal crossings of the border. Im glad that I saw it but thats not a real good reason to go down to this park.
Need more assessable water station. Have food vendors not washing their hands .Gave it 3 stars for the park.and setting vert well.kept area
Loved it there beautiful people.
You cannot get any closer to Mexico without crossing the border. Try hiking south from Imperial Beach for an adventure, instead of driving here.
Interesting to see what its like to be on the other side of Border
Park is for free but you have to walk a mile and a mile and a half to get there.free for a limited time..
This park, if you could call it that, is separated by a very high metal fence/wall. On one side is a barren, flat, boring piece of land. This is the American side. The other side has shrubs, murals, and other art pieces. This is the Mexican side. There are mariachis for hire, food and drink vendors, and a small shaded sitting area. The Mexico side gets a 4. The American side gets a 1. So, I compromised and gave it a 3 overall.
Beautiful beautiful
Great in the day.....stay away at night!
Nice area with tons of food and little shops around.
A very nice place next to the beach theres tons of food and pottery tons of things to buy if you want to take a souvenir for family or just for yourself
Was a good place to visit and see if youre in the area, especially if you enjoy the outdoors, beach, and hiking
Nice Park With a Beach
Important place to visit. The contrast between the US and Mexican sides was stark. The Mexican side had a stadium and food stalls while there was nothing on the US side I was on.The border security guard was very friendly and gave great information about the place. I was actually underwhelmed by the security presence there. Only a handful of police.
This is playas de Tijuana. The beach boardwalk. Lots of shops and local restaurants offering all types of foods. Seafood, pizza, TJ tacos, sushi, tamales, menudo. Safe, fun, sun . Family friendly and much local police presence for our safety and security. Plenty lifeguards on beach. Fishing, swimming jogging .dog friendly.7 11 store also.
Amazing experienceKind helpful boarder patrolYou may walk by feet for half an hour to reach there, cars might not allowed in
An really important place to feel the Wall
Ready for a trip back to TJ!
There is nothing really much to experience on San Diego side of this park. Cannot approach the fence, very strict Border Patrol and rundown infrastructure all around the park.Rather visit from Tijuana side and walk up to the wall, eat tacos nearby and walk on the boardwalk. All in all - San Diego side of the park is very upsetting.
Good place to visit lots to see and dine ...
Friends dont lock their friends kids in cages. I guess someone forgot the meaning of friends. SMH
Its sad but interesting to see. Lots of people on the other side of the border, right against the fence. These days they dont let the US side get closer to around 20ft from the fence so exchanging anything but a distant wave is impossible.
Weve all seen it on TV. It feels much different in person.
Great to go Saturday or Sunday between 10 and 2. You can see the Mexicans on the other side and see families meet. Wish the parking was closer to the place. Had to walk a good 20 to 30 mins.
Quiet as a mouse, what border emergency? Got a clown in the Oval Office, enuf said
Good spots for parkour, a lot of close restautants and the beach its right next to the park
Looking at the border fence is definitely a intense feeling.
Amazing historic place - when it’s open.
Great walk from the parking lot, its a long walk not a beautiful walk....
Nice are, clean bathroom and they charge $10 pesos
Very cool place to check out, beach was very clean and nice. The boarder patrol agents where awesome and liked to talk and answer question.
Unfortunately the fences between the Mexico and United States had too many visitors so we were not able to go in.
Always a lot of people there but still a nice place
Something very magical.
Some of the reviews here seem to pertain to the area on the other side of the border. The actual park on the US side used to be nice but in recent years it has been neglected and is frequently made inaccessible due to disgusting sewage contaminated mud that stays around for months after the last rains. Its also cut off to motor vehicles at the entrance (unless you squeeze through on a dirtbike).
The Mexican side is colorful, with restaurants and artwork (5 stars). The US side is an apocalyptic wasteland with no amenities (1 star).
Just make sure swim across when the border patrol is not looking.
Nice place.
Sad Place
Park trails not well maintained, hard to get to after the rain
Enjoyable happening place. Lots of places to eat. Close to water. Family friendly
Took a horseback ride tour with my wife to the area!
Itll be known as the international freindship park until trump builds his wall. Then itll be known as the border wall Memorial park
A very nice, clean area of Tijuana, lots of things to see and do. Good eats near by
Would be great if both countries would get their politics straight and have this park regain its original intention and purpose.Awesome to thave this park either way
I dont know why is called friendship park in the US that fence isnt friendly at all.The Mexican side is great awesome restaurants and Tijuana partying and beach going American side is nothing but border patrol agents and in top of that getting here is really off the beaten bath. You trough a road in bad shape and then you have to walk like 30 minutes to get here. It sucks. You should visit anyway
Unwelcoming gates and high security, but just on the other side is the colorful city of Tijuana. The love shared through these gates surpasses the divide between our two countries.
Cool fresh air
Great place to see the fireworks!!!
Lovely place. The most beautiful sunset that you can see
Best place to go. I love going to tijuana specially to the beach to relax.
I took Family we had a great time
I love this place nice view of the beach. A good place to take the family. Very intresting to look at both sides u.s and mexico yet sad.
Theres a mass that happens every Sunday at 1:30pm at the gate. Both sides participate. An amazing experience!
Its interesting how this park has changed depending on the relationship between the U.S and México
International Friendship?!?! Not while Drumpf is president
Small park, but nice place to visitIts where to Nations meet USA and Mèxico
Quite an interesting beach experience.
Cool place
