I love this place so much. I had a brother come into town and he asked me to go back here. The bill was decent. Feels like a place in Los Angeles I liked.
This place had a live atmosphere! Although the sign read Please wait to be seated the waitress told us to find a seat and hell bring us a menu. A large table for 6 had 3 ladies and since it was crowd due to a live performance they welcomed my date and I to feast with them. He ordered the seafood bowl(clams, crawfish, shrimp) simular to a chippino. I had the surf and turf, which was steak and shrimp over dirty rice and side of zucchini then afterwards banana pudding parfait. The reason Im opposed to giving 5 stars is soul-ly (soley) due to the food, the seafood bowl tasted like it was grabbed from the sea and covered in tomato sauce. Regarding my food, the steak was bland and if you dont have sturdy teeth, you wouldnt be able to chew the beef, also the shrimp was ok but lacked flavor. I did had dirty rice (not even close) and veggies, not sure who the chef was but he must have no taste buds in his mouth. I am so critical because I was born in the south- Baton Rouge, Louisiana and my whole family are cooks, I just like to eat. Oh the pudding tasted like baby food bananas with hard wafers, top with whipped cream.
Amazing vibe and great food. The staff was friendly and was easy to pull up and have valet take care of us. Oh and did I mention the food was amazing.
Service is always prompt even when they have a full house. Nothing but enjoyable experiences here. The prices are fair for the quality of food.
I love visiting here. Looking forward to a return trip. This place has a good design.
Visited Fri evening I think. I will be bringing family next time. It has a great feel to it.
Nothing but pleasant experiences here. It has a great atmosphere. Kinda of like a cafe in Phoenix that I enjoyed.
Super appetizing. Definitely worth going back to. The bill was reasonable.
Went for a party. Waiter apparently was only taking orders at request rather than asking if we were ready to order. So half of our party had food, while the other half couldnt quite figure out why the waiter hadnt taken our order. Nothing fabulous about the service. A band was setting up to play. Live music is always a plus. I didnt eat since I had to leave to attend another event.I would say this is a nice place for a casual date night. Not necessarily to celebrate anything though. Its small and intimate which was a plus. Im a stickler for memorable service though.
Nice place. Im an introvert. It wasnt too big. It wasnt too crowded. I thought for a Saturday night there would be more people.Im a picky eater so I tend to stick to plain foods. I had the catfish nuggets and fries which were scrumptious. They were seasoned very well. The band was good.Ill probably go back regularly for the food and to hear more bands.
This place does it for me. Fast, efficient, and courteous service.
The bill was average for the menu. Menu is like a cafe in Boston I liked.
This place was awesome! Cajun and BBQ ! Both were authentic, the BBQ was actually very impressive. We went on a Thursday night which I highly suggest as the local Jazz radio station has the mic and the bands were amazing. Drinks were not terribly expensive, staff was great, food was really really good, but the music and atmosphere on a Wed took the cake. Would go back again and probably will even though I live in Ocean Beach. 10/10 would recommend again!!!
The food was tasty. The service was very friendly and attentive. The bill was appropriate. Kinda of like a restaurant in Los Angeles I liked to visit.
They have wonderful live jazz music here. The space isnt the largest and some of the artwork is kinda creepy, but the music is great.
This location is one of my favorites.
We went on a Friday for dinner. The place was packed for the musical entertainment. Our waiter informed us upfront that the kitchen was backed up with orders and that it would take a while. It did. It took a long time. We ordered the gumbo and red beans and rice. Both were excellent. Much love went into the cooking. Was impressed. I could tell the staff were very experienced. But it was too busy for drinks to get refreshed regularly. We ordered something we never got and were charged for it. But our waiter took care of it.
This place was awesome - I attended a Wednesday night blues jam session and the music and food were both great. Entertainment is free but they do take tips or donations to 88.3. Happy hour specials if you arrive before the show, through 7 PM
1st time there and loved it. It is definitely a hidden gem. Not crowded. Very casual. Highly recommended.
I LOVE Proud Marys! It is a hidden gem in San Diego. My favorite place to go listen to Great live Blues music. They dont have a cover charge which is incredible. The venue is fun and comfortable. They have a nice selection of tasty Southern food! And good drink with daily driver no specials.I highly recommend Proud Marys escpecially to all the Blues Lovers looking for a taste of Louisiana and a little New Orleans in San Diego.
As always, Proud Marys offers up some tasty blues, along with some tasty victuals (vittles) to go along with the music. My friend and I sat at the bar, where Jeremy took care of us. She ordered the shrimp and grits, which both of us (originally from Monroe, LA agreed were mighty tasty. I ordered their version of the Cobb salad, which did not disappoint! We enjoyed the world class blues stylings of the Chris James band, another sure winner. Live music Wednesday through Saturday in an intimate setting. Wednesday kicks it off with a blues jam hosted by Jazz 88. If you play or sing, bring your gear and sign up. Throughout the week the crowd includes many regulars of all ages, as well as those who happen in for dinner. Its an early evening, so plan accordingly. You wont be disappointed.
Food and service was great!!Sharifah and the good thing band was awesome!
Great foodGreat serviceAnd live music
This is a very unassuming place to eat as if you didnt drive by and see the sign outside, you wouldnt know it was there. And thats a good thing as the food is excellent! I do tell my foody friends to come and try it out! Ive been twice and it wasnt busy. The lights are dim and theres jazzy paintings and art all over the walls. Live music is played here but Ive yet to come during that time. Since it isnt busy your food us cooked to order and its well worth the wait! I promise everything that has been tried thus far has been great. Give thus place a try if you have the time, its well worth it.
Love seeing Tomcat Courtney do his thing, happy 91st!
It was a nice place. Great Beans & Rice. Robin Henkels band was playing. Fantastic music!
Walked in by myself for a beer at 9:25pm on a Wednesday night and was told by the bartender they were closed. Two guys at the bar. Several others packing up instruments. Wtf? Website say open til 11pm. Total BS.
We love this bar. We always stay at the Ramada so that we can eat here on the nights they have live music. The food is great and it has a fun atmosphere.
Definitely very good place for dinner and listening good lyric next to the hotel.
Definitely a hidden gem. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back. Great food, the staff was very friendly and the signature drinks were excellent.
Prices are reasonable.
Great blues jam fun bar good food
Got there near seven, it wasnt very crowded. The service here is above par. The place has an awesome atmosphere. Food is similar to a place in San Francisco I loved.
Great music! Tom Cat is the best. Great service.
Wow Evey one should take a cab here for the excellent music delicious salmon Dinner
Do not leave if its busy, it is worth it.
Dont let the fact this restaurant/bar is located in a hotel keep you from coming to check it out. Absolutely outstanding music, and delicious, authentic Orleans inspired food wait for you here. The Wednesday night blues jam is one of the best showcases in town for live blues. Its always fun to see who will take the stage and jam with some of the local stand outs. The food is outstanding and the wait staff is always cheerful and attentive. Come on out and have some fun!
Great little bar with outstanding food. On the trendy side but approachable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and engaging. This is a place worth your money and time.
This place was a hidden gem! Cool vibes with a great female soul/jazz/Louisiana style funk! Sorry forgot her name
We landed here after a full day of shopping. If I did not have my kids with, I would have loved it. This place is a restuarant and bar. The band was good, atmosphere was good, staff was awesome and the food was like I was back in the Mid-American south. Just like home. I could see having a very good time here.
Fantastic Night of Music with the January Berry Band. Great Grub too.
Mike was a wonderful host, thanks GR8 Food.
Absolutely the best restaurant in San Diego. Parking is great, the food is very well seasoned, the banana pudding is to die for, the staff are friendly, the entertainment is LIFE! I went there alone and never felt alone. Even other patrons talked to me. They have live blues every week its awsome. Ill be back and will bring friends.
Found cockroach on plate and the food was lacking flavor. So disappointed drove all the way from north county thinking it was going to be delicious southern food and nop! So disappointed....
Great tasting food and awesome live music!
This is where I preform for open mic jazz 88
Cook was so kind, The bar itself has a nice southern feel but a little on the pricey end for Cajun and Creole food
Love the place with their Louisiana style food. Proud Marys live band plays jazz and blues give the place a nice touch. Nice place to go a have a beer or a bottle of wine.
Great music. Pleasant staff. Good food.
Great music shiity service. After sitting for 10 min waiting on service went up to the bar for drinks was told need to use waiter that never showed***dont ask the bartender to do his job ****
Great steak and mashed.
We went for the music. Service was slow (due to kitchen issues). Once we received our food, it was tasty. Friendly service.
Had a lot of fun here! Staff was great, dinner was good too. Breakfast, not so much. Recommend for the live music on Wednesday for sure though.
Came for the bourbon slush, stayed for the amazing fried pickles and asparagus, and live music. Wednesdays, they have a Blues Jam night. Open mic for blues musicians. Bring your own instrument, or grab a seat and enjoy! Its lively and relaxed and an all-around good time. Just the thing us weary business travelers need.
Band was great. Food was horrible. Went with 4 people and not 1 person was happy with the food. The brisket was mostly fat. Wasnt a good cut at all. The mac n cheese was not anything special. Bread pudding was disappointing. Their wings were so fatty and greasy, i couldnt finish them. Dissapointing cause I went for my bday and was super disappointed and embarrased I dragged people there to eat. Really enjoyed the blues band tho.
Allways great food music and people
Food was amazing. Was there on a quiet night. Cant wait to go back when they have live music. When you walk in seems a like a dive, but food is really good and really cheap.
Strongly discourage anyone from eating here. Went for brunch and is was almost empty, lights were off and it was super dark inside, and the food was mediocre at best. We wont be returning.
Great live music, food, and beverages
Good food and live music!
Ordered the chicken and waffles.... comes with two eggs and bacon. They stacked the bacon on top of the eggs on top of the chicken, that was smothered in gravy, on top of the waffle all on one plate. Chicken should have been fried longer and served without the gravy on top of the chicken on its own plate. Leaving it dry allows the patron to eat without fear of it getting soggy. And egg and bacon on a separate smaller dish. Didnt catch the waitress name but she was by far the best part of the meal. Chatty and helpful, she got the second star. A far cry from the New Orleans theme they claim.
Stumbled into this place and listened the Stoney B jam out for a couple hours. Food was good, music was great.
Cajun food, quality stuff. Great place to relax, people watch, eat good food or all the above.
Service is always awesome even when they have a full house. There was quick and friendly service.
Fun ambiance, good service and even better food.
Close to 4 freeways and lots of parking. Lots of flexibility in scheduling Conferences and taking late resetvations. Food is good and variety of price reservations! Would schedule other groups.
Live music super awsome
Music: Fantastic! Service: so-so.
Very nice place. Would visit again. Enjoyed self highly.
The chicken and waffles are must-eat! The chicken was tender and juicy while the waffles were light. Absolutely love this place! Best chicken and waffles Ive had in town! Highly recommended!
Go to Proud Marys whenever you have a craving for real Southern/Cajun food. The quality of the food will not disappoint and is the best southern food Ive found in a restaurant San Diego. The fried pickles are spears (not chips) which means more pickle to breading and are way better than others Ive had in San Diego. Shrimp Creole is the real thing with large, tail-on shrimp in a spicy creole sauce. The Shrimp nGrits may have asparagus but dont let that make you think its not the real deal. No instant grits here. Last, but definitely not least, make sure someone (or everyone) gets the Fried Chicken. So good!Bad news, service is horrible. Last time I was there, three tables were occupied and the staff consisted of one server and a bartender. We got up to get our own water and getting another round of drinks definitely took time. No one was rude, just needed training!
Nice place for a quick bite or listen to live music depending on whos playing. My wife and I liked the vibe and the people. Its a good mix group of people.
The food was terrible, bland, and the vegetables (corn, cauliflower, carrots) were sour! Ordered fried zucchini and fried chicken and neither of them had seasoning just tasted like burnt flour! The biscuits were supposed to be chibatta bread but they were hard as a rock....Won’t be returning EVER!!All in all it sucked but my beer was good and waitress was nice & patient !
Nice and friendly and best of all its located within the hotel and that saves both time and money when it comes to parking around San Diego and no traffic! Food, drinks and service are great!
Was there in the morning working at the hotel the breakfast wasnt bad
Hands down best fried chicken in San Diego. This place is a hidden gem! The food here is so good from fresh fish specials to classic southern food. You have to try this place!
Bartender was funny and friendly. Drinks were great as well.
Proud of What?I went for the blues jam on Wednesday and brought a few friends with me. I showed up at 6:20pm just to make sure I got on the list early and got a chance to play. I was the 3rd guitarist to sign up. After 1.5 hrs, I checked the list again after about 5 guitarists had been called up, and lo and behold I was next. They seem to work on a special treatment agenda where your position on the list has no bearing on when you actually get to play. After another 30 minutes of waiting and watching other musicians take the stage, they asked if anyone else was there to play, so I raised my hand. I mentioned I was one of the first people to sign up, and he said oh, thats weird, where are you on the list? I pointed to my name, which had been conveniently crossed out sometime within the last 30 minutes. I sat in the very front at a table with my friends, and they never even called my name. I ended up jamming on 2 songs and then they brought up someone who had already been up there 3 times that night (who surprisingly wasnt very good). These guys just seem to cater to their friends and dont give others much of a chance to play. I understand, thats how the world works, but theres much better Blues Jams out there (Stony Bs, House of Blues, Alex Gomez)All in all, I was not pleased with the way the jam was run. Maybe I just got unlucky this time, I dont know.
So much fun! Good food& music. Staff was super personable!
They advertise there fried chicken but it was over cooked. They need to get another distributor for there choice of chicken.Great concerts
Friday night has live music and dancing. Fun place.
Im giving this place 2 stars because the food us awful! We had the worst breakfast Ive ever tasted and its ridiculously expensive. The waitress was nice and attentive but that was that only goodthing.
A little pricey, but good Cajun/Creole cuisine, and the KSDS-FM sponsored blues jam on Wednesday evenings cant be beat.
Great jam at Proud Marys with good food and service!
Great place for live blues
Great food nice atmosphere. Bands any night
Very good food indeed!
Awesome staff, great drink, great food
Proud Marys has a great chef and I love his Cajun cooking. Great happy hour, staff and decor too.
Amazing food! Chicken fried asparagas, braised short rib, it couldnt have been better.Servers are friendly and helpful, and live music to boot. Dont miss out on this place!!!
Bar tender was surly and dead inside. Awful experience.
Live blues and decent southern food.
