Very clean campsite, we had a premium site. There was alot of dirt so everything got dusty. Grass would have been nice. A few kids were riding their bikes in the little trench and were going into our campsite, which was a bit annoying because we were trying to be safe with the covid guidelines. Beautiful sights all around, and the bathrooms were kept well.

Beautiful spot to have a few days to recharge. Sweeping views of the coast and train tracks. The campground has a designated path down to a secluded and quiet beach. We will absolutely come here again.Spot 146 is nice and large with a view of water on the horizon. The spots in the 80s have a direct view of the beach. For ~$40/night this is a steal. Ralph’s sells firewood as does the park kiosk. There’s an Irish pub with good food within a nice walk from the campground. Showers are hot immediately with good water pressure, bring cash to get tokens to run them (2min/token, 2 tokens/dollar). It gets cold as soon as the sun sets so have your campfire ready. Bring hammocks and a sunshade. The pergola is nice but doesn’t block the sun all the way and it can get quite warm during the day.We stayed the first week in November and it was mid-70s and sunny.

Ultra nice Beach and area, probably one of the best in San Diego if not California. Very well maintained and there is a jogging path walkway that runs behind the railroad tracks running the entire length of the of the beach. Nice restaurants and places for snack food down by the pier. The main parking lot at the entrance is a pay lot but the parking fee is cheap, only $2 per hour. Perfect place to bring a family or hang out or do anything. Also take time to drive through the main drag in Clemente very nice area.

This is a great Campground to take the family. There are great views, easy beach access, well-maintained bathrooms and close enough to civilization if you forget essentials. The beach is a bit secluded so it does not get too busy. There is plenty of wildlife around as well.

We stayed here for 7 days in the dry area. I actually liked it better than the full hook up area. We had a large space with a picnic table, bbq, fire pit and a gazebo! Bring the hammock! We even had an ocean view! The walk down to the beach was very steep we opted to drive down to the Califa public beach! Our dog enjoyed going to Del Mar dog beach a lot more, since we were not allowed to take him near the shore here. This was our first time camping here. There was a dump station and a water fill and the restrooms were cleaned daily! Showers, two tokens got it done.

Stayed here on 9/2/20. Campsite 92. In the middle of the night (4:45ish) I awoke to find the entire inside of my tent covered with ants. Walls, floor, sleeping bag, pad, me, and everything else inside was covered with them. There were easily 2000+ ants inside my tent. I had no food in the tent either. So that was a bit of a negative. I had set up my tent in the dark and hadnt noticed any ant trails when setting up. When it got light I noticed several long ant trails leading to the fire pit at my site where previous occupants had left some food items. Its a nice campground, and the beach proximity is great, but be forewarned - an ant invasion in the dark is not fun to deal with.

Nice walking, bike path behind main beach. Good facilities with bathrooms and outdoor showers to rinse off the sand. Hint: if you park by San Luis Rey Avenue you dont have to pay 1.50 an hour and suffer a crowded parking lot. You can cut through the state campground and walk the hill down to the beach.

Beautiful beach!! It was hard to swim in the ocean The rocks made it hard to walk out and the waves broke right into the sand. You can float out past the waves though. It was so much less crowded than other beaches because of the $20 entrance fee. So relaxing! And I heard in June you can see the bioluminescent something! Haha. Going to come back for that! Also, there is a cute little train (MetroLink) that comes by. Everyone waves and takes pictures And 2 miles North there is a pier to check out.

The croud that comes here makes it for me. The demographic is one that made the effort to have a state beach pass or buy a day pass, that instant makes them respect and appreciate the area more, I think. Many are locals or just those who come in seeking a place to camp and hang out. Families and friends coming for a good time. Compare it to other San Clemente beaches that are more locals oriented.

The Beach view all around was amazing. The Sunset is a must see for Couples, best with some slightly off shore clouds. There were quite a number of People in the water and on the Beach but it was not overly crowded. Nice and cleaned up. Fire pits, Vollyball nets, Palm covered umbrellas, Dog friendly, walking paths alongside the train tracks, Barbecues, Restroom was clean and everything worked. The best for last was the San Clemente Pier. Fishing does take place and You wouldnt believe how friendly People can be....... they dont go fishing for nothing ;) A nice Seafood Dinner at the beginning of the Pier over looking the Ocean flying Our Colors and The Marine Corps Flag topped it off. Awesome location all the way around.

San Clemente State Beach is fantastic, but huge. You have all of the positives combined with all of the negatives of a huge and popular campground. Summer spots need to be reserved the full six months out. Tent camping on the south and west sides can usually be pretty good, but there are chances that your neighbors can be drunk yahoos. It all depends on who is near you when you are here. If you have great neighbors, it will be a fantastic week! Party-bros and huge families... maybe not so much. The RV spots are packed in very tight. I only have experience with the tent sites. Easy access to the beach, and a quick drive or middle-sized bike ride into town for dinner. If you want a quieter spot, consider San Mateo campground. It is a longer walk down to the beach (Trestles) due to its isolation.

I had not stayed at this campground for a year, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the campground looked this time. The campground was very well maintained. The bathrooms were clean, trees were trimmed, the asphalt was blown off and wood chippings were added to some of the dirt areas. The area looks beautiful! It probably helped that it was the off season and there were not many campers there, but what an improvement over the last time I visited! Plus its impossible not to enjoy the ocean views. Be aware that there are some skunks in the area after dark. I learned the hard way to keep my tent away from the bushes, or you will have to deal with the smell while you sleep.
