If you like trains this is a must see museum. We were lucky enough to get a special tour by Allan Born and he was a wealth of information. Even if you are not a big fan of the trains of yester-year it is sure to peak your interest. It was a total delight. We did a brief self-guided tour of this museum while waiting for our train ride. The curators of this museum have done an excellent job of capturing the history of the railroad in the San Bernardino Valley.

I grew up in Fontana, both my Aunt and Uncle worked for Santa Fe Railroad. I would visit them as often as I was allowed. I always liked trains still do. They done a great job restoring the old terminal where the museum is located. If you like trains and some of the City history its a really nice friendly place to visit. I believe the people who were inside use to work there but Im not sure. Beautiful restoring of old fire engine, horse buggies, and many other things.

Opened in 1918, the $800,000 depot was the largest west of the Mississippi, designed as the Gateway to Southern California. It was a bustling passenger and freight center with a restaurant, living quarters, and offices, and thanks to a $15 million rehabilitation, the Santa Fe Depot has been restored to its former beauty.

What a cool museum set in the refurbished Sante Fe Train Station. Wonderful firefighter collection of artifacts, maps, posters, and displays. There were older guys watching an old western movie in the museum as I walked around and read the displays. The train history of S.Bernie was wonderful to learn about and I even learned of the Loop Train that used to run through the orange groves of the eastern valley. The refurbished station on the east of of the complex was clean, airy, wide open, and reminded me of older movies and grand old stations of the 1910s-50s.What a gem that happens to lie in a beautiful old building.
