This is an awesome place! I’m so excited to get back into skating! Great memories here with my hubby and daughters! I’m so happy and blessed that this place was able to overcome the shut down. Just recently came back to the amazing atmosphere and purchased a new pair of skates. Yes, they sell skates!! Employees are amazing and made me feel right at home. Go check it out!

A pretty good skating rink with a very good penchant for safety. They make announcements and are very good about policing people acting a fool that could potentially injure others. Pretty clean to me. I didnt eat the food so I couldnt critique that but they do have a nice little like snack bar area were you can get hot dogs popcorn and other typical skating rink food. The staff are all very nice.

I had a wonderful time with Mr W fireworks and Company this is a great place to take your family and friends and to spend some quality time with each other

Skateland West is a pretty good skate park on the west side of San Antonio. It is cash only but they have an atm available so just be prepared for that. It was a clean and fun environment for both adults and kids. The announcer was animated and had alot of fun events and games throughout the time block. The lights were awesome and music was a good mix for all. The bathrooms were clean.

We’ve been coming here before they had to close due to COVID and have been back skating since they reopened in May! They had to make some adjustments about charging everyone to come in and frankly I totally understand. That’s not going to stop our family from having a good time. And well frankly they have posted time and time again that they do not allow spectators. Don’t like it don’t come! You should be thankful they were able to handle being closed for almost 3 months and still are able to open their doors! All businesses had to make changes after being closed for so long to go and bash them in times like this is wrong. And if you would have talked to the ‘rude lady’ you would have known that she says once things are back to normal they hope to have the original policies back in place. But who knows when that time will come hopefully sooner rather then later.

Memories... my kids hung out here; now my great-nieces and nephews are having b-day parties here! It is as much fun for them, as it was for my kids!

The lady at the cashier is very rude, they overprice microwave food, the price is never consistent they’re always raising it, and it’s overall very unprofessional. this is not a kid friendly environment.

This place took me back to the 90s (not that its a bad thing)! Place was decently clean. However, it was CASH only, no locks on bathroom doors, handwashing outside of restroom, weird rules nobody followed, and worst of all skates WERE NOT disinfected..

Good family fun place

I threw my daughter a private party today at Skateland West and had the BEST experience! She had such an amazing time. Not only was the staff amazing but do to some personal issues things had to be switched around and they were so supportive. We are definitely going back and highly recommend Skateland West!

The lady in the front was very rude! I went to drop off my daughter with my friend. My friend walked out the first door to greet me & she yelled at her. She said it was a safety issue for my friend to be wearing skates past a certain area. I told the lady I was just dropping off my daughter with her & it would just be a moment. She again said it was a safety issue & then started acting fake-nice. I could tell she didnt really like people & had to try in order to be nice.

No locks on the bathroom doors. My friend had to hold the door closed after someone walked in on me, cause ya know, cant exactly hold doors closed with your foot when you have skates on. Also, the restrooms were carpeted?!?

Our first visit!PROS:Staff was friendly and helpful.Apparently there has been an update since many of the negative reviews - there are bathroom stalls complete with a door (while it doesnt lock, at least its there!).We went to an afternoon session, which was uncrowded and delightful. Kids had a blast, and even I skated some (first time in I dont care to recall how many years). We all enjoyed the music (family friendly). They did not do the games or specialized skates during this session.The temperature seemed fine, but being there at an uncrowded time, on a cool day, is not a valid test.CONS:Vending machine is overpriced, and water fountain water unappetizing. I understand their no in and out and no outside food policies, but it did make our time less enjoyable.Yes, it shows its age a bit, but its definitely NOT in the run down category. Carpet on seats is a bit worn, but not worn out. Without even changing the skates, they could get a lot of mileage out of just replacing some of the laces (some not long enough (!), many unravelled ends, etc.).

This place that caters to children and entertainment is beyond disgusting. My 14 yr old son stepped into the quite entrance way to make a call to me to ensure I was on the way to get him. Unfortunately the door shut behind him and he was told that he could not go back in and to get out before security was called. Sad to say this is no longer the place we went to as children. I had a lot of very fond memories there from my youth and trusted that I would feel secure dropping my son there to spend time with his friends. I called to inquire about this policy and speak to the coward that kicked my child out. All she had to say was that there is no in n out and that they were not concerned for his safety. If he wanted to go back in he would have to pay another entrance fee. Apparently money is more important than the safety of a minor child. I am truly disgusted at the moment. My opinion of this place has changed tremendously. We will never return to this establishment. Just a warning to parents dropping their children, dont.

Skate land west is so fun its an exercise but it fine if you dont know how to skate its ok because they have railings for you to use but please dont just stand there cause people who dont know how to skate are using the railing so yeah over all its fun you can eat and drink there the best thing to do is have parties there skate land west is super fun so you should try to skate PS you can get socks for only 2.50

Very nice place . took my sisters skating & the staff was very nice & friendly . dj is also very good . I was loving the jams ! definitely will be coming again !

The lady In front is very rude!!! I’ve never been to the skating rink before and for my first experience it was horrible I was even planning to have my birthday party here but after todays experience definitely not.

I’ve grown up skating here since the 80’s. For those that complain that they don’t allow kids to go in and out are you serious? They aren’t your baby sitter if you don’t trust your child to stay inside you should stay with them. They have sign on the exit door that clearly states no in and outs. When you leave you leave. What’s hard to understand about that. They have their polices respect them. When I started going to Skateland they didn’t have bathroom doors, so now you want to complain even more now that they have doors. You can see your feet underneath the door. But honestly if you are looking for good family fun and a safe place that has policies that they enforce go to Skateland West. They even have a great deal on skates get your money back in free admission! I’ve bought my kids a few pairs already.

Its a nice place but too many small children that have no idea how to skate. They cause you you fall and slip up I suggest going during the later hours

You have to pay for kids not to skate also. Took my 4 yr with me when i took my kids who do skate. So i had to pay just so my son can sit in there with me. Even tho the parents dont pay an admission the kids do EVEN WHEN THEY DONT SKATE.

Best SA skating rink except for the muffled voices over the mic when playing games. (I said, Gray light. Not green light.) But no triangle trainers like at the other rinks that tend to get in everybodys way. Great decision there. Thanks! Other rinks, you need to follow suit.

The kids had a good fun time. Prices have gone up & the only thing I dont see improve is the facilities. Management never seems to care about the restrooms or refurbishment of the old carpets in there. They dont accept debit cards so they have an ATM machine for convenience.

Nice employees. They only take cash, so keep that in mind when visiting. Skates were decent, floor was okay but a little rough in spots. Rail was dirty and rusting so gloves might be in order if youre learning (or, relearning). Great price for the time we went ($4 per person including rentals).

If i can give it 0 stars I would!!I called to get information and The OWNER MEGAN. (This was stated by her) was beyond RUDE!!! I wanted to plan a birthday party there and she was answering me like if i was a bother, but if The OWNER is this rude i can only imagine the Employees!!! I Will NEVER PLAN ON GOING HERE !!

Came to this business for a kids birthday. Not impressed. Staff wasnt friendly upon check in, they didnt offer up any kind of kindness or even a smile. When I asked for info on parties I was directed to the location of their flyers...at the party there was mass confusion over tables and rooms and no plates ... The only reason I would return is bc my kids liked the rink. The really enjoyed learning to skate. Will b back but wont have high expectations regarding the service

Walked in found a lady yelling at a kid. I asked to speak with the manager . The lady at the front who is horribly rude said she was the was the manager and owner. Horrible woman. Very rude. Yelling at a kid because he his hand on the window seal.

First time taking my family to skateland west and we had a great time thanks to Noah! With our 3 kids at the snack bar, Noah was a great help. We are definitely looking forward to booking the families next birthday party.

Enough room to be comfortable as long as its not packed with people. Clean restrooms with doors that have no locks. Music selection could be better. Has snack bar area and able to rent skates area. Plenty of room to sit out around rink. Friendly employees that try their best to make games fun.

Lots of fun, Skates included with entry fee. One thing I learned the hard way was they only accept cash but have an atm with an outrageous fee. Cash for entry and at the snack bar, no cards!

I go with my family every weekend. The managers and staff are always friendly and happy to help with anything. I read the review from ‘Insert Name Here’ and well, considering the owners posted a picture of bathroom doors 7 weeks ago were you really there skating on May 12th? If you find the skates so ‘old’ maybe you should take up their offer on buying a pair of their special skates and get your cost back in free admissions. I’ve bought all my kids skates there with that deal. They also offer lockers for one pair of shoes for a quarter! My kids love it! We will always go to Skateland West! Please don’t let one review change your thoughts about this rink. It’s been around for over 40 years. Try it for your self and see it’s one of the nicest updated skating rinks in San Antonio.

Depending on the Dj the music can be great esp if its a guy named Jessie and also with fairness of games. Letting adults and/or 17+ compete against children is quite unfair they divide ages for fast skate why not the prize games? Other djs play what appears to be their favs ..not enough variety.(take a cue from jessie lol) Been coming here since i was a kid now i bring my daughter..its ok esp for a cash only place all imo of course

We had a private birthday party here and the customer service was excellent! They communicated well with us the entire time and were upfront about all their fees. All our guests had a great time.

Pros:One of the biggest rinks in the city.Smooth floor.Not restrictive on the type of skating (backwards, jam, etc) that can be done through out the session like other rinks.Have a designated backwards and fast skate.Family friendly and “with the times” music.Cheapest prices for skating in the city.Management is actually friendly when you’re friendly.Cons:Broken a/c leaves the floor wet. They are fixing this though.The snack bar is a little pricey for the quality of the food.No stall doors for either the male or female bathrooms.The management can seem stand-off-ish.

As I have said before I work with a kids summer program and the kids always love this specific Skateland. I love how strict they are on rules because it keeps all the kids safe and prevents them from making a mess and more work for the workers. Yes the kids get hurt here and there but this Skateland is so cautious about the safety of everyone there. The food and drinks are a little over priced but what can you expect from a food stand in a place like this.

The kids had a good time. We were actually there for a birthday party and had the party room. It was very small only big enough for the kids. The space behind the rails all around the rink is very small and very tight. There were a lot of kids and patents crammed into the space. The actual activities were all of the basics forward, backward, and fast skate for the different ages.

Its been years since Ive been to skateland West and after today I will never go again. The older lady with short gray hair that collects the cash as soon as you walk in, was rude and sarcastic. They only take cash. Purchased 3 tickets but quickly found out my 4 yr old was to scared to skate. We immediately asked for a refund...and were told all kids get charged no matter what. I understand theyre trying to keep teenagers from just loitering around. But for toddlers who are scared to skate should have the option to be spectators. The lady also told us, Ill give you your money back but you have to leave. Horrible service! We stayed without refund only because we came for birthday party. We purchased hotdogs at the concession stand and asked for change for $5. The young girl told us the lady/owner doesnt allow them to give change even though we were going to buy from the vending machine. Also noticed the establishment uses store bought microwavable popcorn and places it in a container. Skateland West needs to understand what Good customer service is and get with the times of using credit cards.

This was our third time visiting as part of a school group. I have four kids, 10, 8, 7, and 3. Their skates here are super slick, making it very easy to fall because your legs fly out from under you. My youngest wasnt a big fan of not even being able to stand up but at least for our first two visits, they let me walk out there with him and try to help him. Before our third visit, I bought him the kind that go over his shoes so he could just scoot along. I thought it would give him some confidence and he was so excited! We had just walked in the door, however, when the woman at the front desk told me that he wasnt allowed to wear them (she didnt give a reason). When I told her that he tried their skates and couldnt even stand up because they were way too slick, she didnt care. In fact, she made me pay for him to just walk in the door even though I told him he wouldnt be skating! Since I already paid, I decided to let him try their skates one more time. But this time, not only was he not able to wear his own skates that he was so excited to wear, but they wouldnt even let me walk out there and help him try to stand up on their super slick skates of death. They said I couldnt go out there because I wasnt skating. Im pregnant and I cant skate to begin with so there was no way I was taking that risk! So now, Im stuck paying for a toddler that I have to somehow entertain for the next couple hours while my big kids skate. First of all, if they are going to make rules, they need to at least be consistent! The first two times we came here, there were kids with the same type of skates they refused to let my child skate with this time. And I was allowed to walk out there with shoes to help my son the first two times, no problem! Also, there are people out there pushing strollers around! Strollers are OK, but my son cant wear his skates? Seriously?! Lastly, as soon as I told her my toddler wouldnt be skating, she shouldnt have made me pay. Having to pay for my toddler to walk around bored and disappointed is unbelievable! Needless to say, we wont be coming back. Figure your stuff out, Skateland West!

Very good music and a great floor to skate on. The employees are very nice and nolegable about working a rink and helping the people who are skating.

Skate counter lady was so friendly and helpful. Admissions lady, not so much. Good music mix. Kind of small. Mostly rink space. They dont have any assistance devices for beginner kid skaters.

The only thing we had a issue with was the lights. My daughter and I have seizures with them

Fun time! We got a Great deal for the family to skate on Family Night! Be warned though, it is Cash Only and there is very limited space and seating on the edge of the rink, so it gets crowded easily.

Usually a good, fun and friendly place. Today 3/13/19 for some reason the staff was in a faul mood including the Sheriff onsite ( officer Quintero.. badge #3036). I was more surprised with the officers attitude towards everyone that was waiting to be picked up, was way to hostile. Maybe they should have had someone else fill in for inside staff and officer if they didnt feel like working today. Other than that its a fun and friendly place to go to.

I had one child I did not mind paying for cause I knew she was going to skate. My other one I knew he wouldnt but in good faith I paid for him if he just so happened to want to try. Well he didnt even get in the rink at all. I asked for a refund and they refused to refund his admission yet they have no signs up that state they dont offer refunds. Rather just continue going to the one on Bandera Rd.
