This is a beautiful place, with good food and great music. I was in contact with John, who arranged a reservation for our party, though we ended up being a lot smaller group than planned. The manager Damian welcomed us, and our server Ash was attentive and helpful. The house band was really good, I could see myself coming here to just wind down for the night, the place just has a nice and relaxing atmosphere. The only minus I would give is that the bartenders seemed to still be a little lost on how to make consistent drinks. My husband got two of the same signature cocktails, but they were totally different.
Great place with a couple wrinkles that need ironing out. The ambiance is fantastic, very nice atmosphere to listen to music. The players are all very talented and the young lady singing had a truly remarkable voice. Its rather unfortunate that with this level of talent in the house band, the sound was barely listenable. Im not sure if its an equipment issue or the sound engineer was sick that night, but the sound was very uneven and rough. No balance to the instruments and the vocals were far too quiet. The bartender making drinks in a shaker drowned out the music, and we werent even sitting near the bar!The other wrinkle is the online menu is was not even close to the menu we were provided. We ended up ordering one appetizer (which was quite good) and got dinner after we left instead of eating at the establishment as planned. We did go on a Thursday so perhaps their weekend menu is more extensive and closer to the one on their website. The house cocktails however were absolutely incredible, everything we ordered to drink was outstanding. All in all, I would recommend this place, it is a unique little spot and a welcome addition to an otherwise jazz club barren city. If they are able to fix their sound problem, which is a major issue in my estimation, I would likely become a regular.
Fantastic jazz music, ambiance and great bartenders. Tired off getting overpriced bad martinis at other establishments, I found Avant online and was totally impressed. I also loved the pride flag hanging under the sign. Ill definitely be coming again!
Awesome building and interesting decor, plus fantastic live music! We went on a Friday evening, probably around 9, it was busy, but not packed. No cover at the door surprised me. I dont know if its always that way. We didnt eat, but the menu looked interesting. They had a good wine selection, but getting a drink turned out to be more trouble than it was worth, seemed to be a little under-staffed.
I saw this bar when I was driving with some friends, but didnt visit until a few weeks later with my husband. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess who checked our ID. We sat in front of the stage, where there was a groovy quintet playing. Listening to the unpredictable sounds of jazz made my soul feel at home! During the break John the club owner came by and greeted everyone; we had a chance to have a good conversation with him, where he expressed the jazz club was his dream. The ambiance is great to feel relaxed whether you are with friends, or a romantic night out.
This place was fantastic. Three of us stopped in during a week long visit to the city. The entertainment was perfect. The music had a great vibe and the volume was just enough to keep you excited, but low enough to have a conversation over dinner. The food is excellent as well. Salad portions are huge and appetizers are delicious. The icing on the cake was a visit to our table from the club owner. He was kind and welcoming, and we had a great conversation before he had to return to the stage to perform. I highly recommend this place- you wont regret it.
Wife and I and some friends went to the club and had a great time. We visited with the proprietors, who are nice folks. Got yummy food from the Peruvian food truck out front and thoroughly enjoyed the jazz quintet. Go there right away!
Great food, good drinks and a chill modern lounge atmosphere. Or if youre just there to dine, they got a dining area as well. If you got room for dessert be sure to try the bread pudding.Avant groove is a pretty hip joint with some great live jazz music from some of the most talented local musicians in town. I had the pleasure to meet some of them the night I went. I hear they have live music every Wednesdays and every other weekend. Theres no cover to get in either so youll have extra cash to buy another drink. If you do decide to check it out one night, definitely try to go when the band is playing.
Two stars because of music and decor.Service is lousy. Crab cakes came out after dessert, and no fork to eat it. Waited for awhile before our server came back with a fork and said, it should still be warm in the center.Say what???Asked for coffee several times. Just gave up.The service became so comical we could only laugh.HOWEVER, I added the third star because they apologized profusely. Ill give them another chance in a couple months after they work out their staffing issues.
Lovely atmosphere. Great drinks. Food was bland but the live band more than made up for it. Overall a great experience. My Grandma loved it and the staff was very friendly. So thats extra points.
Classy, fun, and great jazz and drinks. They do get super busy on the weekends but that is to be expected at any bar. The ambiance is fun and the decor is on point. This is a great place for a night out!
I have been waiting for a jazz bar in SLC for years, and this place delivers. The drinks were good and the music was great. John, the owner, actually came to our table and said hello. You can tell he wants everyone to have a great experience at his venue. I cant wait to watch as the club grows and features more jazz artists. The only thing I wish they had was a dance floor. I love to swing dance and was hoping this could be a more social venue to do that at. I only visited on Saturday so maybe I was just there at the wrong time!
So different in the best possible way from what we were expecting in Salt Lake. Fun, lively, looked inviting from the street & felt good when we entered. The house band, Elastic, was playing & we enjoyed the music so much we went back 2 nights in a row! Loved the atmosphere and decor, lots of people there but room to move around easily, various types of seating a plus depending on group size. We enjoyed the wine more than the mixed drinks we tried and the fries more than the bruschetta & pizza. We will definitely go back when ELASTIC is playing.
I absolutely love the ambiance there, its like nothing else in SLC. You can dress up nice, but there is also no pressure to do so. Its so great to have a place to go to like that without a prohibitive cover charge. Also, Ashley F provides the best service Ive had at a like like that. Even if I show up with a dozen friends on a busy night, she makes sure were all well taken care of and adds to the fun!
This place is super cool, and you meet some awesome people there. Much needed niche market in SLC. The band was awesome, layout and decor is on point, and drinks are delicious.Just as a heads up to everyone, they no longer serve food- at all, which was a bit of a bummer to us as we thought they did prior to arrival. Also, those super delicious craft cocktails are way too fiddly, and their bartenders do not move fast enough for the volume of drinks being served (especially on a Friday night). The fact that there aren’t even peanuts to distract you makes the fact that you wait 20-30 minutes for a (6oz) beverage extremely apparent. I began to feel like as soon as our server dropped off a drink I ought to order my next round immediately in order to get it in a timely fashion.Perhaps this is a kink that will be worked out with time, but that wait really brings down the mood amidst the super fun parts, like the dancing, ambiance, music, and surroundings. Here’s hoping their bartenders get hustling!
This is a beautiful venue. It could be a hot spot in Salt Lake City. They need to hire a sound technician for the band. The singer on Wednesday night was okay, but his mic was turned up too high. Every finishing note blared over the band drowning out all the other instruments. The food is okay. The truffle fries are a soggy mess of undercooked fries. Ravioli was delicious and made up for the undercooked fries.I look forward to going back on a Friday or Saturday night. There is so much potential for this venue. They could really liven up week nights by opening up a dance floor especially since there are not enough patrons to fill up the tables.
My friends and I went there to meet a girlfriend for her birthday. We did not get a reservation because we only planned on a few of us being there. The first person that greeted us at the door, once she found out we did not have a reservation she was extremely snooty. We ended up sitting at a couch with a tiny coffee table. It was fine. We understood it was a busy night and they were doing the best they could to accommodate us. To our surprise several more friends showed up. We were reprimanded when we tried to take additional chairs from tables that were empty. We were scolded by an additional gentleman about not having a reservation. Our waitress was nice in the beginning but couldnt remember what anyone ordered and acted put out when anyone asked for anything. She would mix up our orders and then get angry with us when we asked about it. Half the time she was no where to be seen. Some of our party waited 30-40 minutes for a drink. The ambiance there was great, the place is beautiful and the jazz band was awesome. But I will never return with the way we were treated. Its one thing to have one of their employees treat you poorly, but it was consistent with every person we encountered there.
Avant Groove is truly a treat for all your senses, and must be experienced. First, it is possibly the most reliable place to find live, talented jazz bands in Salt Lake, reason alone to attend. The band is flanked by an incredibly swanky interior--chandeliers fashioned from old brass instruments, a walnut bar, glistening candles, and one of the most beautiful liquor displays in the state. The chef and mixologists have a refined palate, creating a treat for the tongue that is as sophisticated, complex, and engaging as the music. I cannot recommend Avant Groove enough!
Elegant and sophisticated venue. Swanky, sultry, authentic live jazz music. Scrumptious cocktails and entrees. Charming and gregarious staff. Love this place and so glad I accidentally stumbled upon it.
This place is a great addition to the growing SLC music scene. The music is great and the fact that theyre bringing in so many interesting groups on a regular basis is awesome. The atmosphere and ambiance are very nice. The food is great and the drinks are very good. The staff and management are super friendly and personable. Definitely a must-go-to place if youre looking for live jazz on most any given night in salt lake. Get there early though, to catch a spot close to the stage since it can get packed, especially on a weekend!
Really, really like this place! Great atmosphere, nice and chill, not pretentious, and plenty of room. You can either sit right up front and take in the jazz directly, or sit further back for a combination of great conversation, people-watching, and music. So glad SLC has a place like this now!!
Great jazz band played. Covers and originals. No cover. Good people watching, pretty diverse crowd. A bit coupled up but whatever
Excellent club. It is very unique to Salt Lake, especially if you are a Jazz lover. The service, atmosphere and food are all on point. We have been here many times and are never disappointed.
I love this place! The interior is beautiful, the house band Elastic is great, and the drinks are tasty. The owner introduced himself to us, and to everyone that was here on a Wednesday evening. SLC needs more culture and experiences and this place is definitely help bring that.
Fantastic environment and experience. As a non drinker it still is a great place to go and relax. Also the service didnt make me feel bad for not ordering alcohol. Definitely will be going back on an later day.
The band was great and the lighting fixtures were so neat. The space was open and comfortable. I would have liked it more if they served food.
Fantastic experience! One of the best experiences I’ve had in a while. Staff was perfect, food was excellent, and the atmosphere superb!
What an amazing evening, facility, food and music. Service was impeccable, the band perfect and oh those truffle fries. This is a jewel....a must visit spot especially on a week night when you can avoid the weekend regulars. Dont miss it, we almost did!!+
Super rad Jazz bar with cool architectural details. The music was amazing, the drinks were great and the staff was very nice. Im so glad Salt Lake finally has a proper jazz bar.
Avant- Groove is the most significant addition to Salt Lake’s night life in years. Perfectly located downtown. The ambience has a chill vibe to it. The menu is great....but the Jazz is world class!!
Great atmosphere. The live band was amazing! Their food is reasonably priced compared to how nice the venue is. The drinks are a little pricy, but there is no cover charge for the music, so it evens out. They make a great cocktail.
Avant Groove Jazz Club is pleasing to all senses. The jazz, the food, the aesthetic. If you’re looking to enjoy a night and want a new place to try, come here.
Amazing atmosphere and a beautiful venue. Music was top-notch. Serving staff was friendly and attentive. And the drinks were great too. I was blown away.
They did a good job creating the Jazzy ambiance. I loved the drink menu. The bartenders werent rude, but they werent engaging in the slightest. Didnt try the food so I cant testify to that.
Great Jazz club with live music, bar and food. Feels like your setting in your own living room.
Drinks were delicious. I had the ravioli and calamari and enjoyed both although my friends werent extremely impressed with their burgers. Loved the atmosphere and the music.
Swanky place. Real good jazz. Quality cocktails and drinks. Cozy jazz club atmosphere with unique decorations. Friendly staff.
If youre looking for a Utah cocktail this is your bar. We had a group of 7 and everyones drinks were awful. Including a vodka martin that was straight vermouth. The idea of the place is great but they need to fine tune their drinks. Also the lighting could be dimmer.
If you like live jazz, this place wont disappoint. Great atmosphere, the house band is solid, the food is high quality, and the bar has some interesting selections.
Went on New Years Eve. Such a cool atmosphere, the music was great, the drinks were great. Very classy place! Will go again
This has got to be the worst service I have ever had. I have waited over an hour and a half for a drink. The manager came and told us they were out of a food and the manager blamed us. This place is ridiculous. If it wasnt for google making me give 1 star this place would have gotten 0 stars.
Great bar to catch a jazz band. It’s big enough that you can either get dedicated seating for watching the band or hang out at the bar or away from the band and talk to friends.
Great live music, traditional and fancy martinis. Just go and check out. Last weekend we walked into live Latin jazz, it was great.
The Jazz is a wonderful welcome to those who just want to chill and appreciate the art of music without wordsI did not have the food however I know the partnered with Christophers next door... Yes some might say its pricy but I say price should be relevant to your experience and if your budget doesnt allow it....go out and do something about it lol.Ill be back for sure and I dont live here.. Just a guy from Texas
The jazz was great, but the service was terrible. We had a table of 14 people and a fair amount of the food and drinks we ordered never showed up. They told us they were two people short. At the end of the night, they did make amends for the bad service though. I would go again, and hopefully the service will be better next time.
Impossible to get a hold of them for anything, let alone to set up a reservation. Their website doesnt even have their phone number on it. What type of restaurant with fine cuisine does not make themselves able to reach for reservations?
I had a lot of fun here. The drinks are great and so is the music. I wish they would expand their drink menu.
Avant Groove, what can be said? Well to start with the atmosphere is fantastic. Its great to have a real JAZZ Bar in SLC. The band tonight is fabulous with Tom Young (trumpet), Jacob White (tenor saxophone), Phil Kuehn (bass), Devin Mitchell (Drums), Kevin Judd (piano). There is no reason not to come out and enjoy this fantastic establishment.
Decent jazz club, drinks are good and priced pretty normal for slc, the night I was there the music sounded great. I am definitely making this one of my norms.
I loved this place. Live music, good service and prices. Excellent for hanging out with friends.
Finally! Salt Lake is really amping it up! Classy jazz bar, couples dancing, creative and unique decor/architecture. This is what this building (which has seen many different clubs/bars) needed.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious Rosemary Truffle Fries! Oh... and the bottle of Los Cardos was not too sweet but a floral exhilarating taste!
Great place to chill and listen to some live jazz. Their small food menu is good and their cocktails were yummy!
Had a great time tonight at Avant Groove! First time and love the jazz, atmosphere, and drinks. Can’t wait to come back.
Nice setting for great jazz music. Eclectic collection of food selections. Friendly staff. But its about the music.
Fun and creative evening out! Great music. Great drinks. Great service.
Nice ambiance but waited over an hour for a drink (30 minutes after ordering). No apparent system with wait staff or at the bar. Not returning.
Im not really a jazz officianado, but this place has a great vibe and the musicians were insanely good
LOVE LOVE LOVEIt is hard to get in touch with you guys and I do wish that your website had your phone number, but I love that we get to have you here in the SLC!
Great music, great food. Where else can you go in SLC to hear live jazz?
Fantastic atmosphere coupled with good food and great music. This place is definitely one of the new gems in downtown Salt Lake City. Service has continued to improve since I first came here, and the music variety is excellent. I will continue to be a regular here.
Great atmosphere. Great music. Good drinks.
Cool atmosphere complimented by live music, creative and classy cocktails, and a well crafted food menu.
Very classy, jazzy joint! Waiting for Frank Sinatra to start singing! Nice wine selection and yummy appetizers!
Beautiful club, musics good but dont come here if you want to enjoy the evening. After 50 minutes we were finally brought a drink of water...this is a poorly managed establishment if theres any management at all.
Ouah. What a good place to relax and listen to some nice jazz after a long week
Had some great food as we enjoyed some great music. Glad to see a cool venue as this existing in SLC. Hope it stays around
Great atmosphere, very good drinks and outstanding music!
What a fun place! There was live jazz, a gorgeous atmosphere, and SURPRISINGLY GOOD food. We had spicy meatballs with kimchi, lamb chop lollipops, steak medallions, the best cheesecake Ive ever had (which is weird for a lounge) and Louisiana style bread pudding.Id recommend passing on the flatbread/pizza options. The toppings and flavors are good, but the crust is thick, and tastes like it was premade. There are plenty of better options on the menu.
Great atmosphere. Good Music. Fun laid back enjoy.
What a great fun place and an incredible venue! Food was delectable and decently priced. I have yet to try the drink menu, but the club has a full service bar. Great music! The ensemble that was playing when I went was talented and entertaining. Great atmosphere and a variety of seating arrangements. Great decor. Very tasteful and fun! Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Cant wait to go again!!
Make a reservation or you will have terrible seating and ordering food takes a billion years.
Tried to make a resevation for since tues/wed. Fb refers me to call and when i called numerous times over a couple days no one picks up. Got a message from owner that they might be able to get me a table in the back so email Damien. I did and no response. Still showed up anyway with nowhere to sit and eat food since there were no reservation. Barely got water because I was in the way and the bar seats were packed. Left after the glass of water. Terrible communication.
Cool venue, good food, but a little pricey. Would recommend going.
Great Jazz Vibe! Excellent Drinks and Food. Highly recommend!
Awsome food, drink atmosphere and music.
So much fun. Great environment and great food
It is a little too bright. But the music is so good.
Cool space but it wont last, its way too large, nothing seems to last with a place that size.
Great music good atmosphere plenty to drink!
This place felt like going back to a 50s jazz club. Very cool atmosphere.
Good drinks and ambiance but menu kinda fell flat. Not enough seats either.
Poor service. Delayed drinks food never received.
Awesome Jazz bar. Horrible to try and get a drink at though.
Very pricy, but what do you expect for such good music and atmosphere, when we went there was no covercharge.
Cool atmosphere, good music, tons of choices for unique martinis. Over priced and terrible service from some staff, descent service from others. Took way too long to get a drink.
Bad bad so bad service... We have to wait 40 minutes just for a glass of wine at 8 pm when almost twenty people in this place
Great music, good food, excellent cocktails.
Amazing atmosphere, but AWFUL SERVICE
Great atmosphere good music. Drinks and food a little pricy and service was slow. Bunch of new servers tho
Great music and food, beautiful sett
What a beautiful place!
Amazing Jazz Club. Gotta return soon.
Great music, not so friendly
This is our new favorite spot in Salt Lake. My wife and I came here on a Wednesday, and we both agreed that there is no better place in the valley for a date night. The food, drinks, music, decor, and atmosphere were all on point. The owner/lead vocalist and musician, John, even personally walked around and thanked every person in attendance for coming during the bands breaks, which was a nice touch.
