Hands down one of the best museums Ive seen in Kansas thus far and it is so kid friendly you cant help but give it a 5 star, (Id rate rate it a 10 if I could)!! They have the tornado simulator, a giant globe atom, electricity machine, Indian artifacts, just much going on!! Seriously, if youre anywhere near to Salina you really need to stop at the Smoky Hill museum. 8-a.m-5:p.m. Monday through Saturday. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Free admission, does accept donations. Very good museum about the history of the area. Also takes you through different decades of what came about and things that were popular. There are kids interactive areas throughout to keep them entertained. I would recommend a visit.
This is a hidden gem in Salina. Amazing museum that is ABSOLUTELY FREE! They change their exhibits regularly. Whoever curates the exhibits really does a great job. Theres always something interesting to look at. I especially like the interactive childrens area and the tornado simulator. They also have a very nice gift shop carrying many products from local Kansas artisans. Grab your family and enjoy a morning or afternoon at this museum without breaking the bank and learning a little something, too!
My little human and his mom was not thrilled to hear we were going to a museum, but once we got there they didnt want to leave. They have a bunch of hand on activities for the kids and my big human also loved the hands on exhibits they have. Did I mention it was free you cant beat free we spent 2 hours in the museum. If your looking for something free to do I recommend the Smokey Hill Museum!(they have a old freeplay pinball machine)Check us out on Instagram @g.o.a.t_adventures
We stopped here for a break from driving with our 1 year old. It is a great museum! Everyone working there was so friendly. The exhibits are really well done, and my son got a chance to run around a bit before we got back on the road.
Super children friendly. Children of all ages from my toddler to my teens. Very clean, well kept and modern design. Super educational and informative. Easy to follow and understand the very engaging displays. Loads of hands on activities for everyone in the family. Cute and affordable gift shop where you want to buy everything. And most of all, wonderful friendly staff. My children dont normally enjoy history and museums, but this one they absolutely loved. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.
So fun and interactive! Great for kids and adults who want to learn about Kansas history or just want to have some fun.
My granddaughter and her friend loved it. Nice and clean. Interesting
Kids had a lot of fun at the museum. Not crowded, fun place to visit.

Great place to visit, local or out of town. Terrific staff and lots of hands on learning. Especially awesome for kids!
A very nice museum with plenty of hands on experiences for the kids (and adults). And with free admission, this a great place to spend 2-3 hours. Also, make sure to visit the Kansas oriented gift shop for interesting and unique merchandise.
Great little museum especially if you are passing through.
It was a lot of fun to see historical things related to Kansas, the make a tornado was fun, loved the mastodon tooth, friendly folks and admission is free great gift shop
My grandchildren and I enjoyed the museum during Spring Break. The children really like the different experiences avd hands-on apparatus! The tornado wind tunnel was definitely an eye-opener!
Really nice museum and a very friendly city, nice shops for shopping, nice clean and was fun to see all the tricks and treaters out with families getting treats from the businesses, really great!!!!!!! My first visit to your city!!!!!!
It was good but a little busy today because of the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair.
Its a neat place to visit and the exhibits are also fun
Excellent monthly historical presentations by top local and regional expert historians. Always very interesting and educational!
Amazing place! Very neat and hands on experience for kids and adults. Not your typical museum, it is definitely more than that. Use old fashioned radio equipment, race to put the gas mask on, make your own tornado, and play an old fashioned pinball machine. Lots of flyers on different eras you can take home to read later.
Loved this place, very interactive. Lots for the kids (of all ages) to enjoy.
Fun museum. If I had kids, they would have liked it. I enjoyed playing with making a tornado from mist! Also, theres a legit pinball machiene upstairs. Kids these days dont understand. Gotta check it out!
Great museum with a lot of hands on exhibits. My daughter got a kick out of seeing the old JCPennys catalog they had that you can look through.
Found fossils and rocks n mineral w a book on them and what Kansas has found!!!

A very nice place to spend a Saturday morning.
My son and I had a very fun time here
I enjoy this museum. Not only does it give you the local history of Salina but also gives you history of Kansas. They work hard to change up the floor plan and displays. I personally love the bookstore as it is one of the few places around to find great Kansas gift ideas, handmade KS artisan gifts, and Kansas history books. Plus, it’s all free!! A must see while in Salina.
Great museum displaying the history of salina and kansas in general . occasionally new displays on pieces of u.s cultural history so come back and check it out if you have not been there in a while.wheelchair accesible.and restrooms male/female and disabled. And all for free

Very interesting trip
Great place totally free. Great for family activities
This is a great museum for kids. We had 3 with us, aged 12, 10, and 8, and they really enjoyed themselves. To get the full experience, you have to stop at the front desk and pick up the scavenger hunt (different ones for different ages), and youve got to spend some time in the lab working on solving the mysteries. The scavenger hunt has things to find throughout the museum, and keeps the kids looking and reading. The lab area is really wonderful, too. I dont remember the exact name of this exhibit, but kids work on mysteries where they go to different stations, observe/read, and answer questions to solve. Someone has put some time into this, and we could have spent a good hour just in that spot.In the end, the kids also received little prizes for completing the scavenger hunt. Really cool
I had not been in for quite some time and we were plesantly surprised! They have added several new hands on activities, not only for children but adults as well. Check it out! Im certain we will again very soon!!
