I spent a couple months looking for the right place to get my new tat. I reached out to Loki who was more than helpful in getting all the details worked out for it. When I arrived at the shop, I was pleased to see that it was clean, the staff was friendly and they were doing their part to keep people safe during this unfortunate time in our world. Loki was extremely helpful before, during and after getting my work done. Located right at the entry of Pickering Wharf in historic Salem, This meticulously clean, very inviting and comforting tattoo studio is the one to visit. Well equipped to handle your custom designs, and Loki Is a master at his craft, and a very caring, conversational artist.

Salem Ink was a wonderful place to get my first tattoo, back in September. The studio is clean, brightly lit, and has painted artwork on the walls. It feels like youre going into an art gallery (which you are). All the artists were prepped with PPE for Covid19 protection as well. I booked an appointment with Heather, and she worked with my idea and really brought it to life. I smile every time I notice my arm. The individual tattoo rooms are out of the way and private, so theres no worry of strangers watching/poking their head in. The aftercare sheet is very thorough with time-frames and products to help your tattoo heal properly. Theres also some humor stuck in for good measure. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience and took away a bit of the anxiety of getting a body mod that I hadnt had before. I 100% recommend Salem Ink.

I finally decided to get my first tattoo 11/4/20 and had the absolute pleasure of having Heather Cierri bless me with the cutest, most original, and authentic doe I could’ve possibly imagined. The detail in her face and fuzzy ears, my moon, and soft orange blossoms...I’m in love with my tattoo. Heather and everyone at Salem ink was Very professional and kind, clean place. I felt comfortable and relaxed and so happy how everything turned out! From beginning to end, it was perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more ️

I saw Kylie yesterday for my first ever tattoo - I wanted a small, fine script on my forearm and had been told by another tattoo artist at a different shop that what I wanted was too small and would blur together. Kylie was confident that she had the right technique to get the look I wanted and she met and exceeded my expectations! Kylie is a perfectionist,and you definitely want that when getting something permanently tattooed on your body. Even for a small piece like this, she worked and reworked the writing ahead of time until I was happy with it and paid attention to every detail before and during the tattoo itself. She was friendly, professional, answered all my newbie questions and didnt mind that I had brought three friends with me. Most importantly, my tattoo looks amazing! Im so glad I found Kylie and Salem Ink and I will definitely be back for more work from her soon. My girlfriend and I were walking around Salem yesterday and saw Salem Ink and decided to get tattoos. It was very clean and COVID safe. We got our tattoos from Loki, the owner. He was very nice and easy to talk to, the room was very well sanitized, the tattoo process was actually really comfortable and fast, and I love my tattoo! I would definitely recommend this place and this artist and will probably go back for tattoos in the future!

I just came out from an appointment that I had with the wonderful Loki. The tattoo was amazing, he made sure I was comfortable and we had great conversation I didn’t even realise I was being tattooed because he was extremely careful, friendly and professional. The tattoo came out perfect, well worth the price for this art. The studio was properly cleaned and sanitised to a beyond professional standard (I have OCD and have issues with cleanliness but this studio was perfect!), I was very comfortable and had no worries there as I was clearly in good hands! Highly recommend, I have many tattoos and this was my first and best experience at Salem ink!

Decided to get a tattoo spur of the moment and called around to a few shops to find Salem ink was the only one taking walk ins. The owner, Loki, drew something up for me real quick and he started right away. Light, easy conversation and was done before I knew it. Got my first tattoo here. I came as a walk-in, only wanted a small, black symbol on my chest, the brand of sacrifice from Berserk. I talked to Ed Ayala who surprisingly had the same tattoo. He and the other artists were pretty cool, the whole process was easy and the place was really clean. Im happy with how it came out, the line work came out perfect and looked exactly as I expected.

Me and my boyfriend have both gotten tattooed here and had great experiences. One appointment with Heather and a walk in with Ricky. They are both exceptionally clean and talented. I often feel intimidated in other tattoo shops but they made me feel very safe and comfortable there. Also I love that the waiting area also functions as a really awesome gallery. I got my first tattoo done yesterday by Ed, he was very professional and he showed me all his clean tools before using them on me. He was also very gentle for it being my first tattoo! He also took his time to give me the best advice about my tattoo, I left there very excited and In love with my first tattoo.

Went in early on a Sunday and got lucky with a walk-in! Ricky did a great job illustrating what I wanted, was super professional, and did my small(ish) piece in about 2 hours. Definitely recommend this Studio and artist Ricky to anyone local or in town!!

This was my first time getting a tattoo, I was very comfy even during the pandemic. My artist, Loki, was very friendly and very welcoming. 5/5 would definitely go again/ recommend to a friend.

My friends and I all came here for some tattoos. The receptionist was completely clueless. Two of my friends had no issues getting tattoos. However, my friend and I had very different experiences. The receptionist had to ask the artist some questions about our tattoos, and didn’t ask them for 30 minutes. My friend was able to relocate her tattoo so she was able to get done but I was not. The receptionist never asked me where or what I wanted my tattoo to be when I first got there. Instead she waited 2 hours, after all my friends had gotten there tattoos, to tell me no one in the shop would tattoo me. On top of that, the another tattoo artist took a person who came after me just because he thought he tattoo was nicer. I heard them talking about it. My friends tattoos came out nice so that’s why I gave them two stars, but it was so unprofessional and disorganized I want to give them one star. The women at the front desk was blonde with glasses, just so you know what to expect when you see her. I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the service and the receptionist.*Edit after owner response*Thanks for responding. I can assure you there was a girl working the front desk with blonde hair, I stared at her for three hours after I wrote down my name on the list and had my license taken for a copy after filling out the paperwork, she told me I would be seen before the guy that walked in after me. I can also tell you there was nothing like immediate service expected. As it is COVID time I’d assume you don’t need people in the shop for no reason so if the artists don’t intend on taking a specific tattoo or client they should inform them so they can move on. All of my friends got their tattoos so I’m sure you can understand my confusion with telling me that I need an appointment, but they were just fine and the walk in after me was also fine. Again thanks for responding, I’ll take your advice and book an appointment next time at a different location.

I’ve been to a handful of tattoo shops around the North Shore, and Salem Ink is, and forever will be, my favorite. Not only are the artists extraordinary at what they do, but each time I’m in there I feel at ease. Everyone is so friendly, helpful, and talented. I went to Salem Ink earlier to get a tattoo and Im very happy with it. I went to Heather and she is so nice and sweet. She is very down to earth and has good energy! She made sure I knew all about my aftercare before I left because it was (technically) my first tattoo. I got some wording done and its so neat. The lines are perfect and she chose to do the perfect font for me based off of references I gave her. When I originally emailed her, she responded quickly. Making my consultation and appointment was easy.The shop itself is extremely clean. They have some really awesome art hanging up too. Right now they have a bunch of Krampus paintings and theyre so cool. I enjoyed looking at them while waiting.I already have some more tattoo ideas stirring around in my head and I will definitely be going back as well as recommending them to others. xx

Came here to get my first piece done during vacation. Ed Ayala took me immediately without an appointment, and helped me shape my original idea into one that looks better than I could have imagined. Ed was incredibly kind and easy to talk to. His line work was clean and sharp, and I am in love with the finished product. The price was also very fair. It is clear that Ed is passionate about his work, and he has made me excited for future tattoos!

This is one of the best studios you can go to in the greater Boston area. The shop is extremely clean and filled with amazing art work done by some of the artists. One artist in particular Heather, has done four of my tattoos and they couldnt have come out any better. She specializes in nature tattoos and has incredible line work. Her instagram is hcierritattos. Owner of the store, Loki is extremely funny and overall a funny dude. Each artist is very priced for the quality of work they do. I liked the tattoo that I had done. It was very small. Just a mac miller quote...the shop is nice, nice artwork on the walls. The only problem is that downtown Salem is an absolute mess to park so it sucks in that aspect. Overall good experience though. If they had a couple parking spots just for them Id rate 5 stars

Seconding this, I would like to point out my (our, as I was with my friend) experience.Matt our tattoo artist, as we were walk-ins, was extremely welcoming and hospitable.Lets talk more about Matt though; he being our artist, is way beyond expectations. His knowledge and experience is very extensive (black and grey, color, lining, dot work, color). We wanted a very specific type and style based on a very dark photo of a whale I took, and he surpassed our expectations.His diligence in cleanness (tattoos are not sterile) is extensive.Hes very experienced and cultured in a wide variety of art and styles. I am personally recommending him to anyone that wishes to get tattooed.

Got my first tattoo here last weekend. Walking in for the very first time with just an idea for a tattoo (I want a tiger climbing up my left pec and he must be facing outward) and a picture from a Google search (tiger tattoos), I had no clue what to expect but the attention and consideration I got (from everyone) set me right at ease. On the day of, the *entire* experience (about 5.5 hours from walk in to walk out) was phenomenal. No question about it: my next tat gets done here - I am so happy with this work!

I cannot recommend Loki at Salem Ink enough! The shop is clean, comfortable, and the gallery is full of a lot of incredible work by the Salem Ink artists. I had sent my design to Loki the week before, and he was very patient and thorough in talking through it with me as its my first tattoo. He made honest recommendations for the design that Id drawn, talking through line work and sizing down to every little detail. When I got to the shop we put the final touches on, and about an hour/hour-15 later, I had EXACTLY what I wanted, EXACTLY where I wanted it. It was a super chill session, I felt very comfortable the entire time, and he talked me through everything he was doing. Couldnt be happier with the experience and the work Loki did. Will definitely be going back!

Annual trip to Salem for the Halloween Season and the weather was brutal so I figured check a box off my bucket list of getting a Halloween themed tattoo in Salem. First off the place is also a Art Gallery so there so some amazing works of art on display. Staff is friendly, listen to what you want, work on the concept, and gets down to it. Establishment is clean and sterile with clean and precise work. Really could you ask for anything more from a tattoo parlor.

AMAZING experience. I went in on Friday with a design for a Norse sea_serpent. What better artist to have that done than by a guy named Loki. I gave him the design and told him to do ‘whatever’ he thought would make it better and more his own style. When I came back in the next day he showed me his design and I was so happy with it and blown away by it because it was such an improvement over the original design and really looked special and unique. It was a circle being placed on my upper arm and shoulder so it had a tricky placement and Loki nailed it on the first try with the stencil, the lines between the ink and the lines of my shoulder fit perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with this beautiful piece of art. And the experience itself was great, super clean and professional facilities, very friendly people, great original art everywhere, and in the room Loki was just a great cool chill guy to have a conversation with when you’re required to sit still for 3 hours.

I went to Salem Ink for my first tattoo a couple of months ago. My fiancee had passed away the week before and I wanted a shoulder tattoo done to memorialize her name and our anniversary. I had the pleasure of working with Loki, the shop owner, that evening. He was respectful of my inexperience with the process of planning the artwork - gracefully ensuring that I felt comfortable with what I wanted without the condescension I expected. The tattoo came out exactly the way I wanted, and Loki made good on his promise of a free touch-up which I just received today.On a whim, I got a second tattoo today along with the touch-up. It was a simple sort of piece relating to a hobby of mine, but again Loki was a fabulous host and the piece came out precisely as I wanted.Loki has me now feeling so comfortable with his process that Im already addicted, and today established a plan for a much more significant sleeve-style piece that I look forward to seeing through to completion soon.After examining Eds portfolio, Im also starting to ponder other sleeve possibilities that match his art style; which, according to him, significantly contrasts Lokis stippling technique. This was before I met with Loki about my currently planned sleeve. Im grateful for Eds willingness to concede my business to Loki in favor of Lokis strengths with the style I wanted for this first sleeve - that speaks volumes to me about his desire to see Salem Ink customers happy with the work they receive.

Called ahead of time asking for a walk in appointment, they were more than welcome to it. First impressions of the shop were good, really liked the artwork posted on the walls. Rick’s attention to detail with my tattoo idea impressed me. The worst part about my visit was the wait while Rick was disinfecting everything but if his commitment to ensuring a safe and clean work station makes me wait an extra 10 minutes, then by all means. I love the outcome and will definitely go there again for all my tattoo needs! I would rate it 10/10 but I can’t go past 5. Definitely the best shop in the area.

Bucket List - Just got my first Tattoo at age 60. The staff and facility are impeccable and professional. They went over every detail about the size, placement and color(s) I wanted before we began. Me and my husband got matching tattoos here on vacation.. mine came out great. His looks horrible. It took months to heal because the tattooist chewed up his skin.. after it finally healed, the coloring is horrible. It was a simple black tattoo. His looks like a distrssed grey, poorly done tattoo. Not our first tattoos either. I think his tattooist was rushing since we were the last appts for the day. Really disappointed.

My soon to be husband and I always make an annual trip to Salem, MA. This time around we decided to get tattoos to commemorate our trip. We walked into Salem Ink and asked if there would be anyway someone could see us for a walk in. Loki, the owner, was very polite & professional and told us to come back at around 5:30. Since we were on our trip, this was no problem — we continued walking around until 5:30. Loki did my tattoo and Ricky did my fiancé’s. I can honestly say that in the short time I chatted with Loki he turned out to be one of the most genuine people I’ve met. We talked movies, Netflix, television shows, relationships, teaching, college.. the list continues. Both Ricky and Loki treated us with respect and made us feel comfortable in unfamiliar tattoo territory (we both have shops that we frequent back home in western mass). Our new tradition will consist of getting a tattoo each time we visit Salem, right at Salem Ink Tattoo. Thank you guys so much for fitting us in! 11/10 would recommend.

I was in Massachusetts for a trip and came here based on a recommendation from another tattoo shop down the street a couple blocks that unfortunately didnt have time to fit me in their schedule. I was very impressed upon entering the gallery, the artwork along the walls was right up my alley, gorgeous and spooky. Really fit the Salem vibe!Ed was my tattoo artist and was more then welcoming and accommodating to my walk-in. I was in his chair and being tattood within twenty minutes of walking in the door. He was very nice and did a great job on my tattoo, I am very pleased with this experience, especially since it was my first tattoo! Also, his choice in music was incredible. Duran Duran when youre getting a tattoo of a cartoon cat? Picture perfect.

First off- I loved the diversity in the portfolio work at Salem Ink. There were atleast 5 artists with very different styles to choose from. This isnt a one particular themed shop. I leaned more towards the illustrarive style and I had the best tattoo experience here with Heather. From our initial consult she was very patient with my questions, and gave some solid suggestions to transform my idea into the tattoo Im rocking now! As someone who gets tattooed often and have had my share of not so comfortable experiences, this shop was nothing but welcoming and professional. My piece has healed wonderfully, and she was very thorough with the entire process. The artists at the front desk were awesome, engaging and fun to chat with.I will definitely be back in the future to continue my sleeve!

I chose this place because they advertise in custom tattoos and for my second tattoo, I had a general idea of what I wanted, but I couldnt get a good picture to show the artist. However, when I met with Heather for the consultation, she knew exactly what I meant when describing the tattoo. She was very nice to work with and took the time to ask many questions about the design to make sure that it will look how I wanted it to. I got a galaxy tattoo, and I expected a simple black and blue design since that was all I could find online, but Heather was able to create a beautiful colorful piece that had many colors that came together nicely. She even seemed to read my mind when she suggested adding a moon to the design. The line work was amazing and the tattoo was better than expected. The studio was nice, clean, and very organized. The only downside to this place is the parking as the area around it has a two hour limit, so be careful when planning sessions. However, I was there for about three hours and my car wasnt towed. Overall, the place is amazing and I will definitely be going there again for future tattoos. Also, the pricing is relatively cheap compared to other studios in the area, so that is always a plus.

I checked out several artists and studios before selecting Salem Ink, and I am very happy with my choice. I worked with Matt whose work is detailed and precise. Check out his portraits of Lovecraft, Poe, and the “goat” (you’ll know it when you see it). I appreciate the tasteful and clean setting as well as the shop’s easy access to all-day parking and restaurants. My tattoo is very detailed (and it’s just an outline right now; going back for color later) and looks great. Aftercare instructions are easy to follow and cover all the important things you need to know without trying to sell you expensive, special products like other shops do.

I told heather my idea and she came back with a couple different ideas. They were all pretty amazing. She was really nice to work with. She did an amazing job! I get so many compliments on how well she did. The lines and everything are perfect. I recommend her to everyone that asks and I will go back to her for sure.

I came in as a walk in and spoke with Ed. He collaborated with me on my initial idea and design. After about 20 minutes he drew my tattoo and had me in his chair. I was left me with a stunning piece of work and an experience that was super quick and virtually painless. The shop is super clean and has a great atmosphere. Everyone there was really friendly and you could tell super passionate about their work. My tattoo healed up with no trouble, and I will definitely be going back.
