Phenomenal menu of healthy and delicious brunch fare with many daily specials and friendly staff. They had plenty of outdoor seating and heat lamps. And it’s a phenomenal spot to people watch if you sit outside. Would definitely recommend and visit again!

Great place!!! It has a variety of wonderful breakfast options. I had an elvis belgian waffle which was amazing. They are also gluten and dairy free friendly. The artwork and inside the building is fun and done by local artists. At night they have a great beer selection. Check it out the prices are great. The staff is super helpful and friendly !!

Excellent veg options including a Beyond Burger and vegan mac and cheese but the service left a little to be desired. The drinks and food sat for awhile before they were delivered. Kitschy, fun atmosphere too!

Lovely cute restaurant with fantastic food and very helpful and hardworking staff. Staff maintains all social distancing and cleanliness rules. Coming to food, they offer limited choices but whatever we order tasted good. husband and I ordered crepes and hazel cafe coffee. Coffee was delicious, a little too sweet for me but nevertheless it tasted amazing. I had ordered tofu based gluten-free crepe, it was yummy!!! A must visit place.

Ive been coming here for 5+ years. Amazing cold-brew coffee. I am not a fan of the Fazenda coffee beans used for drip coffee or espresso but their flavored lattes are AMAZING (GULU- change it up once in a while and add more flavors!) Sandwiches and vegan options are great (including breakfast sandwiches)! This is a small bites kind of place rather than a large meal. I do not like the crepe batter here, but to each their own. Jacks Platter and Meat & cheese coalition are fantastic and BEAUTIFUL. Desserts are ALWAYS delicious. Due to COVID, the outdoor seating is just beautiful! Indoor is an option as well and the indoor seating here is unpretentious with local art decorating the walls. This is a laid back spot with great WiFi connection. The draft beer and bottled beer options are the BEST on the North Shore. I love how the servers were encouraged to express their individuality by wearing what THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE IN! Overall, lovely space and used to truly be one of my favorite spots in Salem.

Last week was the first time we visited this magnificent restaurant. But It is surely not the last. We had a good time with the excellent service, with the finest food and fine drinks and with the decent payment. We will absolutely return there again.

Delicious food and cool place; only complaint I had was the service was slow and it wasnt busy, but thats very minor as they were otherwise great and friendly (would add another half star if I could). I will definitely be going back to try the breakfast!

The food was fantastic! Nice hearty soup that was perfect on a cool day. Our server, Nikki, was absolutely amazing! Super sweet and very attentive. Honestly looking forward to dining there again next time I’m in town!

This is one of my favorite places!! I drive up here from Boston. Their crepes, sandwiches, and bev selection are so amazing!! Awesome craft beer spot but their coffees are so good. I usually start with a chartreuse in my cappuccino, and a chicken salad on a croissant.

Came to Salem in October for a sister trip and Gulu Gulu had very high reviews. Stopped in mid day and were told the wait was 45 minutes, but ended up being like 15/20! I had the pickled eggs and warm pretzel and my sister had an iced coffee and banana bread. But honestly the real hero of this cafe is Nikki, our server. The BEST customer service, the BEST recommendations, the SWEETEST personality. Would I come back, absolutely. Would I come back SPECIFICALLY for Nikki?? 100000%.

I gave this place two stars. It was extremely slow service, they got my order wrong. I ordered a cheddar crêpe omelette not Swiss. Never even offered to correct the situation. I got a tea cup with red lipstick marks on the outside!! I never received milk and sugar or offered it for the cup of tea I did have. Waitress never came back to get the check I had to get up and look where to make payment. On top of being seated outside in the cold, which I have no problem with, because it is during this pandemic, however the slow service was really unacceptable. Also I ordered toast that I never received. Will never go back.

Great place for pizza in the heart of Salem. Staff here are amazing and the food is great. Their breakfast menu is good too. Their pancakes are nice. But their pizzas are amazing. Parking around here might be tough during busy hours. Definitely check it out when in Salem.

Hands down my favorite spot in Salem! The staff have always been kind and talkative throughout all the years I’ve gone there. As a vegan, there are plenty of options for myself and friends with other dietary restrictions. Their drinks/beers on tap are incredible as well. The environment is the homiest place I’ve ever known. Looking forward to their safe opening, whenever they are ready!

I had a poor experience between 2 different staff before I even sat down at a very sticky table. So, as I was walking towards the Cafe and clearly putting on my mask (clearly as it was in my hands over my mouth I just had to put the ear loops on) a waitress yelled from across the patio Sir! You cant be near the patio without a mask on I explained to you can literally see me putting it on. Once I entered the cafe I asked the bartender for a cup of tea and responds Sir, this isnt how we do things here you need to go back outside and speak with the waiter (he said all this with attitude). I asked him if there was a wait and says Im not going to answer that, the man outside will. I did eventually sit down to eat but honestly it wasnt worth dealing with the poor treatment.

One of the best coffee shops in Salem! I am a tour guide and a guest from Italy said it was the best espresso he had in America, which is a big compliment. Indoor and outdoor seating. Brews at night. Funky atmosphere with open seating indoors.

This cafe has terrific art and friendly staff. We got sandwiches and later, which were very filling. They had vegetarian and vegan options available. The bathroom hallway had amazing art; even you dont have to go, I would suggest looking at it. The only complaint you would have is that our server didnt come to us after she delivered our food. We ended up asking another server for water and our check.

So, came here on a sunday afternoon to enjoy some crepes and delicious coffee. I wish I could leave a 5 star review as I was extremely excited for the menu.After being sat it took a very long time to be greeted. Our server needs to master how to visit most of her tables before heading to the computer. This would make her efficiency improve and most likely yield her a much higher top average. Its very bad when your guests have to bring their check to you so they can leave.The iced lattes we had were delicious! The food was ok. I enjoyed the Athens crepe, though they could lighten the load of the red onions a bit. The breakfast crepe was appetizing tho a little plain Jane. The funky monkey crepe was good but could use nutella.Atmosphere was decent. Never saw a manager.Oh yeah the lemon blueberry muffin was a fn disaster!!!

Wonderful staff. Great socially distanced table spacing and good mask policies. Coffee is delicious. Even their menu is electronic so no risk of contact transmission via shared menus.

Gulu-Gulu never disappoints! My husband and I always make it a point to go there (more than once) whenever we head up to Salem. The servers and hosts are always pleasant and helpful, and the food is always yummy. The Cozy Morning (latte with lavender and vanilla) is my favorite... It really is like a warm hug. The beer list always has interesting brews, and the drink list is available all day. The Istanbul sandwich, the grilled cheese, and the goulash are some of our favorites to order. Theyve done a great job handling the whole COVID situation and, even though we had to wait a few times during our last trip (hey, it happens), we miss them already.

Unfortunately all I experienced here was a rude condescending staff member who came outside with a snarky request would you mind not sitting at the tables we just sanitized? The tables are out in what looks like a public court and they were long closed so took a seat in them. This comment suggests that they do not sanitize the outside tables when they open up for their guests. Tables are for guests only would have been perfect, professional, and respectable. Train the staff better. Furthermore, that sanitizing procedure (end of day only on outdoor seating in a very public common square area) is pretty bad under normal circumstances but if thats their response during a pandemic Id hate to see what other measures theyre taking (or arent) in the kitchen.

Was sat for breakfast, did not receive a coffee or drink for 35 min. The coffee was awful. The server was MIA. We got breakfast sandwiches. The sandwiches weren’t bad, however the bacon used was the super thin cooked bacon you can make in the microwave. Was not impressed whatsoever.

My wife and I had an excellent experience at this little place by the Bewitched statue on September 3. All the staff were wearing masks, as were all of the customers until their food or drink came. I had the grilled chicken avocado club and it was delicious. In some parts of the country it is definitely worth noting when staff are wearing masks and being very observant of social distancing, because even though it seemed like it was well entrenched in Salem Massachusetts, it’s not like that everywhere, so it was wonderful to see and experience people doing it right. I only have one constructive criticism and that is I wish the server had told me there was an option to do touchless pay by scanning the code on the receipt, but I didn’t notice that until we had already paid with my credit card. But I honestly have never seen another restaurant offer that, and I wish most restaurants dead. So good on Gulu Gulu for even having that as an option.

Cool menu, really good craft beer selection. Nice staff, great service. Definitely recommend it. The goulash was good but not what I expected. We arent local so maybe its not the same everywhere. I thought pasta, beef, tomato. No pasta. No tomato. Just braised beef. Interesting coffee and tea selections.

Gula Gula provided the most amazing brunch experience for my best friends and I who visited Salem. The day before we had breakfast at another establishment and were underwhelmed and disappointed, Gula Gula was the stark opposite! They were able to maintain safety and cleanliness to enforce COVID precautions in a fun and upbeat way. Never did we feel like an imposition or unwelcome, which is exactly how we felt at the other breakfast place. Nikki was our server and truly made the whole experience unforgettable. She was bubbly, helpful, and so sweet! The food was also DELICIOUS, Ill be dreaming about by meal for a long time! Thank you Nikki and the entire Gula Gula staff for a wonderful brunch

A treat for those with a wide taste in beers! The club seems like a lot of fun, but is totally optional and you have to ask about it. Excellent baked goods, morning fare, coffees, and other quick turn around or to go foods. Very relaxing and open floor plan with couches and large seats when available. Im a big fan of their crepes - especially the savory. Ham and cheese for lunch, taken up a notch.

This cafe has a great vibe. The service is friendly, but disappointingly slow.We were there over the Columbus Day weekend but there was no line out the door. Seems like it can seat alot more than the kitchen can handle.The food was average, and definitely not worth the 45 minutes it took to arrive. At least the prices were reasonable though.

3 times I have been there! the coffee was horrible. Tried it 3 different ways 2 times service was good! Yesterday I got out of work and the server treated me like I was a bum. Then after charging me 3.25 for the worlds worst coffee. (Small too) I had the feeling he was looking down on me. I own a business in Salem as well. little did he know .( so ya not a bum)I was born and raised in Salem. Out of seven pieces of equipment that I out right own not financed!The oldest machine I own is worth more than he makes in a year. Although the food is pretty good because of that one server I will never step foot back in that place again. Thank God service and food was good the 2 times I brought one of my general contractors there.

We were in Salem for the a long weekend and went here every morning. The ambiance is very relaxing. If you see a pup dont be surprised. Everyone is welcome at this joint male, female, K9, you name it! They have an AMAZING oat-milk cappuccino. Their breakfast is delicious and the serving sizes are just right. Later on in the day, stop in for an alcoholic drink and live music.I would definitely recommend Gulu Gulu Cafe to anyone that is in the area. We will see you again for sure. Alright... so we took a little stop to warm up and I fell in love with this place... best service ... hot chocolate is just delicious - one cup is not enough. The draft list of beers is honestly perfect. Prices are affordable . They got a great vibe of music and atmosphere. Would totally come back again!!!

This was a great haven on a cold, wet and windy day in Salem. My goulash was just delicious. Coffee was ok - not great. Our server was extremely attentive, friendly and pleasant. I was very amused by the toilet signs and surrounding artwork.

Food was DELICIOUS. Out of this world. I had a great earl grey tea drink with vanilla syrup. So good. The menu was a bit small, but the mimosas looked amazing and I want to try out the bloody marys. Amazing food, good service, good vibe.

We have lived in Salem a year now and yesterday we finally got to visit Gulu-Gulu Cafe and oh my goodness it was fantastic. We sat outside (due to Covid) and the service was great. Happy servers who were quick to help. As a vegetarian, I love all the options on the menu and was happy to see that most meat options could also be ordered vegetarian. It was a delicious lunch and I cannot wait to come back!

This place is decorated perfectly, the staff is REALLY nice and the coffees are delicious....unfortunately it lost stars for the food. My breakfast came out cold and it sub par for sure, I was really looking forward to some good breakfast but it fell short for me here. I would Definitely be back for coffee though!

This was my third time here over the course of five + years. Each time, I have 3xpected good food; each time, I have been disappointed. Yesterday, I ordered the grilled cheese and soup. The soup if the day was three-bean chili, which was fine -- though they give you 1/2 cup of it for this combo. The grilled cheese turned out to be two enormous, thick slices of sourdough bread, toasted (not grilled), with perhaps a thin slice of cheese somewhere between them. The overall effect was just dry bread. If there had been more soup, dipping it would have made it tolerable.I also ordered hot tea, and I was excited to see it delivered in a pot, teabag already immersed. It was hot enough, which is an achievement for most restaurants. Regrettably, the tea itself was weak, and essentially tasted like dishwasher smells.Service was good, and I did not complain to the kitchen, because -- why distress my lunch companions?Ambiance is casual and fun. I imagine if youve had a beer or two, youd think it was great. But with so many actually good restaurants in Salem, I wont be wasting my time here again.

Nice edgy coffee shop with a delicious menu and plenty of booze. We stopped in for breakfast after a 20 minute wait which went by very quickly. Staff were attentive and fun. My friend and I had a carafe of strawberry mimosas and I ordered the Lagom Lox (smoked pastrami salmon, soft goat cheese, pesto, & tomatoes inside a crepe) it was FANTASTIC!

I visit this outstanding restaurant every couple of days as I enjoy the special air that is outline this restaurant. The personel is awfuly helpful and well trained. The service is deeply rapid. Needless to say, the food you eat is perfect. I have been there many times and I was always happy. The price is honest. I recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

We go up to Salem 2 or more times a year, and always stop here for brunch one of the days were in town. Sometimes well come here for dinner, as well. Its a fun space with well-made food and a good drink menu. I recommend the crepes and the mimosa varieties. Theyre also always doing events, which makes me feel like theyre truly a staple in the community, as well.

One of my favorite morning spots for coffee before the crowd hits. The rotating local art on the walls is always interesting. Good music, dark delicious hot & coldbrew, tasty treats and a chill vibe.

Good food, nice place for hangout. Savory crepe with pastrami and salmon was really good. Like chicken crepe as well. Everything was so fresh. Gulash was also yummy. They have one of best Darjeeling Makaibari tea I have had in Boston before. Only coffee cake was little dry and need more coffee flavor. Would love to visit again.

I was already impressed by the incredible atmosphere when I walked in! I ordered a small latte with soy milk. I made it with pistachio flavor because Im weird but it surprisingly was a great choice! The only gripe I had was that they did not have green to go cups and only two choices of plant-based milks. I would love to see oat milk or, better yet, hemp milk since its so much better and hardly any cafes have it yet if they are looking to stand out to their local and visiting vegans!

Excellent food for a reasonable price and attentive, friendly service. When they realized they were out of my original order, they comped me 50% on my second choice - they didnt have to do that for a tourist on a busy weekend, and I think thats reflective of their ethic as a restaurant. Ill definitely be coming back!

Cool little cafe/ bar for beer and some grub in Salem

I have so many memories here. Been coming here since I was 12-13 with my friends for open mic night. They’re just starting that up again and my friends and I went 10 years later and it really is fun. I bring my little cousin here sometimes too, great for lattes, and cheese plates, sandwiches are amazing, great vegan and vegetarian options. Always something fun to do. Also our sever this last time - Hannah was a total sweetheart and so great at her job. Very good experience always- been here over 50 times over the years and it’s always a great time ! Thanks for the memories and the new ones to be made! If you’re a local or a tourist it’s really a special place.

When I come here I love sitting outside. Its the perfect location to take in the old New England charm and historical views. Awesome food as well!

Friendliest cafe we were able to find in Salem! We were welcomed and felt comfortable from the moment we walked in, unlike others restaurants in the area. Food was delicious and they had many vegan/vegetarian options. And the lattes were delicious.

Salem in October is busy and this cafe was no exception. However we got waited on timely and the server was helpful. My husband wasn’t thrilled with the menu but did like his choice of a turkey sandwich. My spinach salad was tasty with lots of blue cheese and pecans. Their specialty was coffee and tea plus vegetarian options.

Cool local bar with a lot of theme nights(karaoke/bingo/etc). Lots of craft beers and cool atmosphere. The only reason I knocked it down one star is that we were turned away on 3 occasions. Basically the place was getting close to hosting a halloween event and they couldnt be bothered to make food. Another night they were just too full.

This is a unique place with a lot of choices regarding snacks and drinks. I stopped here several times for a snack and a latte, usually in the afternoons. The wait staffs are extremely friendly and the prices are really good.

The decoration of the café is pretty but the food is bad quality and expensive. Frozen food that is reheated. My vegan burrito had hot parts and other cold hard. The food has to be plentiful and best quality by this price. They need to improve right now.

Horrible experience- our server was just totally clueless. They didn’t know what was dairy, what the items on the menu were, the size of the portions etc. Especially now, people in the food industry should be knowledgeable due to allergies, food restrictions, and the such. It would have been fine if they said that they weren’t sure and went in to ask, but they just said idk and gave wrong information. At one point, they even asked a fellow diner a question about the food!!!! Also, being a vegan, my daughter can’t have dairy. Thus, when we ordered lattes, hers was supposed to have soy milk. When the server came out with the lattes, they say they think that the lattes may have been mixed up, so they said to taste them and make sure that she has the right one.... uh..... Also, after waiting in excess of an hour for our food, our food never came out. We told them to forget about the food and just to give us the check for our coffee. But the check they gave us still included the food we never got. When we told them this, they were confused!!!! Such frustration!
