Great place for an afternoon visit. Will take about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Three levels. There is an elevator, but also some interesting circular staircases. Building used to be a post office. Some of the building still has that post office feel.Displays Give some background on various industries in this area. Includes the coal, lumber and automotive industries. Shows some of the work and accomplishments to help the war effort after pearl Harbour. Also displays for local businesses, prohibition, and older artifacts.
It was fun learning some history about Saginaw, and things that came here from other places. The GM exhibit and the prohibition exhibit were my favorites, although I didnt get those as pictures on my phone they let you take as many pictures as you want. Also the museum director was really very helpful and offered advice and knowledge without us asking.
Excellent museum I have ever seen. Simple old things of town are displayed very nicely. Have different sections- old city shops display, post office, hall of fame for sports, old vehicle, industry in town, old dentists shop & so on. Enjoyed visit to museum & entry fee is negligible only one USD pet person. Certainly recommended for visit. Staff is very cooperative
Enjoyed visiting this museum. Learned a lot about the history of Saginaw and I really enjoyed the Model Train Set in the museums basement...
Really well done local museum. Takes about an hour, give or take. Cant beat the price.
NEW Exhibits! What a gem for Saginaw. We took the afternoon but wished we had all day. The post office exhibit was great fun and to walk upstairs to the private spy viewing area was a peek into the past for sure. Loved the new coal mining exhibit and found the map of all the underground mines in the area fascinating. The Native American historical exhibits gave insights and speaking with staff showed that they had special respect for these artifacts. Highly recommended. I will be back.
Interesting old original post office in there. I like knowing what it was like back then during the hardships. I can feel spirits in the basement. Strong feeling in the middle. And in upstairs the 2nd floor in the dental room.
I loved it there. It was nice to see everything at your own pace. It was cheap to only 1.00 for adults and 50 cents for kids. Check it out. I would go again
Beautiful building, awesome staff. Took the family for a day out and learned so much about the Saginaw area. The exhibits are very well done with great photos, videos and history. Absolutely would recommend.
It was a nice afternoon out. I will definitely have to return when the exhibits that were under construction are finished.
Interesting museum/building with history of the area. Lots of reading, so probably not for younger kids.
Very family friendly. My kids really liked the interaction that was available.
Basically free entry. Good mix of material but not much interaction for little kids. They did have fairy doors hidden which helped. Very friendly staff! Interesting local history
Love history Saginaw is full of it and its all packed in a three floor castle.
We stopped in today as we were looking at historic buildings in Saginaw for Fathers Day and were wonderfully surprised at the quality, variety and number of exhibits. We started in the basement with the archeology and manufacturing exhibits. These included coal mining, lumber harvest and mill, auto and munitions. Be sure to find the working engine display, foundry equipment, lumberjack cabin, buick frame and powerbike. First floor favorites were the lego dioramas, full sized storefront street, and post office. Third floor had a victorian sitting room and a 40s kitchen. We didnt have enough time to see everything.
A great place to visit and see the history of the Saginaw area.
Love there (lunch & learn) events.
Small but really nice. Enjoyed here...
Truly a remarkable place to visit. Very clean, orderly with wonderful displays and dioramas. I am proud to have this Gem of an attraction in Saginaw.
Take a trip back in time and see what Saginaw was like. Many hidden jewels in this museum. This is the best dollar I spend in many years. The lady at the front desk was very nice and informative. I wish I could have visited longer. I will return eventually.
If you enjoy history and historic architecture this is a great place to visit. You cant beat the price at $1. You will spend a couple hours here and enjoy every minute of it.
Great place to visit, unfortunately not all the exhibits were open. Plan at least 2 hours to walk around.
What a hidden gem in Saginaw Michigan! Friendly staff. Beautiful (but a little dated) didplays.
This was an awesome surprise!!! My bestie and I were on a random road trip, stopped at a rest stop and saw a flyer that it was only a dollar per person to visit, so we stopped in, and we had the best time!!! The woman at the main desk, I feel really bad for not remembering her name, was super knowledgeable and was very friendly. I would recommend for someone looking for something random and fun to do!!
Very cool to see the history of Saginaw everything and anything u want to see is there
Im offering no spoilers. Go, see it, and enjoy it. Worth significantly more than the $1 admission fee.
Very clean and organized museum. The staff was friendly too.
Some of the low ratings for this place are sad. YOU couldnt find one of the two doors so you give it one star - really? Frankly, this place is AWESOME!! We went to take pictures from the outside, but decided to go in since it was only $1. We are SO glad we did. The different rooms highlight different aspects of historical life in Saginaw. We loved how the Museum was laid out, focusing on one subject per room. We especially liked the post office history section. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Great place!!!
Beaurtiful castle like structure modeled after french chateau architecture! Believe it or not this place was used as a post office until it was turned into museum!
Cool museum my 6 year old loved it and it was only 2.50 for us to get in (2 adults 1 kid)
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Castle Museum. As ardent supporters of local history, my husband and I were mightily impressed with the preservation and conservation efforts - well done!Bill and Bobbie Bryant, Louisville, KY
It was cool never been there before but sorta crowded
Very friendly and well educated staff. Good exhibits that change regularly. Building is gorgeous. Professional displays. Large clean bathroom. Great Tuesday lectures.
This museum is one of the best that i have visited, it is truly a masterpiece of the gilded age in this country. The building is phenomenal inside and out, the staff here is knowledgeable and kind, admission is very affordable and I recommend bringing the whole family. Learn all about the area and soak up the incredible sights to be seen at the Castle Museum!
Amazing place, definitely a must stop if ur lookin for historical info on saginaw and surrounding areas.
When I met you were there with Saint Francis nursing home residents. Everyone had a great time they enjoyed looking at all the old artifacts very much history in this place. Able to get upstairs and downstairs by elevator into all parts of the museum with relatively easy access
Really neat place to visit
Great Place to visit. Very informative and awesome exhibits!
Staff was incredible, the kids really enjoyed the experience of it.
I came here in 2016 and it was like $.25 each person to get in and it was a pretty cool experience. There was one room we went into and we heard laughing and nobody else was there but the guy at the front desk and we were on the second floor so we couldn’t explain what it was but it was creepy and left us the chills.
Theres a lot of history and exhibits here for such an affordable price. Went with two adults and 3 kids under the age of 5 and we all had a great time. The front desk guy was super nice and knowledgeable.
Always interesting exhibits, the staff is the friendliest and most helpful group of people.
Took our students (middle school age) to the musuem. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and tapped into what she knew our student interests were (she had asked before we came). The museum is interesting and fun, and our students had a nice time. Plan on going again next school year.
They had interesting exhibits on the local area. The staff is friendly and the price of admission ($1.00) is more than reasonable.
They have done a stellar job keeping the Castle maintained and a true Saginaw treasure!
Great place...and nice priceing...lots of exhibits
This is a very nice and well set up museum, Ill be honest the price of $1 for admission is s steal! The building itself is beautiful, well worth the visit
I was so glad that my boyfriend suggested us going here. I didnt even know about it.The exhibits where very interesting and the architecture is beautiful. If you get a chance please visit the Castle museum!
Beautiful museum! Love of this beautiful gem is apparent through the museum. At $1 entry, you cannot go wrong visiting this wonderful, historical building.
Great place to take kids to learn about the history of Saginaw and life in another era. Very well done!
This is a fascinating facility with many exhibits inside. The cost of admission is also very low. I was surprised at how well the exhibits were staged and the overall quality of the experience. You can easily spend 2 hours just looking around. I feel I learned a lot about the Saginaw area and its history during my visit.
Wonderful history of Saginaw. A work in progress. Would like to see more about Wickes boilers and it was so important.
Bigger on the inside then is looks from the out, much history, I went here with my daughters girl scout troop, they were entertained to learn about the history of the castle, the post office and for there badge the tour director who was a girl scout in her own time and a life timer, taught them about letter boxing. The only reason I dont give the 5th star is the place seemed a bit unkept maintenance wise, a bit out of date, but they do the best they can with what they have.
Such an awesome place! Cheap to visit and they had so many cool things to check out!
Loved everything about this museum! Staff was welcoming, price is almost nothing and so much to see. Great place.
Excellent WWI history exhibit. I didnt know Saginaw did all that for the war effort!
A unique place with a great changing theme and display as well as the consistent on going educational displays.
Great place to see and learn all about the history of Saginaw and amazing people. The history of the building is impressive. The staff was friendly and informative it was like having a mini tour guide just by talking to them.
In my case i skipped about 40+ years of Saginaw. So the museum was outstanding..to just put the missing pieces together was great...what a great facility..
Great place! Good for families and very inexpensive. Came for the Archaeology Day.
Ive been visiting here since I was a kid and now my son loves to go! The employees are always really nice and informative. Always a good experience
We are making history every day whether we realize it or not. this was a real eye-opener of that fact and now I feel as though it is time that we worry about making some history now that 1000 years from now the world will go WOW... Eric D. Rusch... Maxx Action Team
We loved seeing everything in there. My daughter loved the tiny dollhouse rooms.
It’s one dollar for adult admission and it’s great for children with histories!!!
Historical artifacts and displays of the towns heros. Only $1 admission. Kind staff. Unforgettable building.
This is worth your $1 admission - seriously! Go here and see what you have been missing. Nice people and lots of interesting things to see and explore. You wont have regrets.
Do some digging of local history
The exhibits were amazing.
Nice place to see and learn a little
Very through view of local history and pleasent docents
Very awesome museum had lots of fun with the family. It’s nice to learn about your hometowns history.
This was a fun day they had Santa up their arts and crafts and you got to see all the amazing things at the museum so make sure you check out the childrens museum
Well worth the price Great place very interesting
Lots of exhibits of the local history: plenty to see, plan on 2-3 hrs or more, & just a buck for admission! Free parking nearby.
Had a great time. We drove about an hour to get there. Kids had fun with the football player cutout. Area athletes to acheive great accomplishments were on dislpay which I enjoyed much. The one thing I could never figure out was why build a castle if it was being used for a post office? Anyway, pretty cool. Wife enjoyed reading to the kids and it took every bit of two hours to see everything.
The entrance isnt the entrance apparently.. You have to check in at the front of the building, but parking is in the back by the entrance? Then you get to the door and you have to go to another entrance. We didnt even get to go in, its so cold that we gave up trying to find the front door.
A nice museum. Must do.
Very interesting. A variety of historical artifacts. Hard not to see something that grabs your attention.
What a cool place! It contains a lot of interesting history from the local area. The price is super fair and the staff was really helpful! There is also the largest to scale model train which represents historical rail companies. Apparently, the largest of its kind in the region.
Loved seeing my city history
Very nice museum in old Post Office
Nice place to visit
Very informative about the local history
Its a neat history behind this castle
A real treasure for the community. The exhibits are very nice and the museum is always bringing in new temporary exhibits and making improvements to their permanent collection.
New exhibit, very interesting.
Loved it all!
Nice museum brings memories~ ticket is cheap 1$ adult
If you happen to wander into Saginaw, seemingly not a well populated city, especially on a Sunday afternoon, be sure to visit the post office-museum that looks like a castle. It appears to be the most interesting game in town.
Amazing place!! For $1.00 this place was so worth the stop!! I would have paid $10!! I would recommend spending an hour or two here while in Saginaw!
Small but nice.
The new Lumber era display in the lower level is very informative.
Such an beautiful place with lots of Saginaws history great place to share with family and friends
Really interesting museum! Staff is very knowledgeable and super friendly!
Love the local sports memorial...
Great local history!
There are lots of interesting exhibits on the history of Saginaw. Admission is cheap and can take hours to see everything. Look out for the fairy doors.
Large museum, plan on at least a couple of hours.
