My first and last time at the beach in 2020. It was also my first time at a Maine beach and I had no idea how clean and serene they were. I guess Im just used to all the garbage and crowds along the Jersey Shore. The only downside is that parking is a bit pricey, at $20 a pop. But if you are an early bird and can make it there before I think either 8 or 9, then parking is only $5.Since we came on a Tuesday (at around noon), there werent much people around, which was super nice. The weather for that day was only forecasted at the low 70s with some clouds, but it turned out to be a great beach day. It was warm, but not sweltering. Warm enough to go in the water - but only if youre brave. The water was icy cold. But after a while, you just become numb and dont even notice it (lol). There arent really any waves but there is a very strong current so you definitely dont want to mess around with that. I never went out further than past my stomach, especially since I dont swim very well. Even just standing there with the water up to my waist, I could feel the currents pulling me.The best part of this beach is that its only a 20-minute drive from Portland. We were visiting for the week and staying in Downtown, and didnt want to drive far to get to a beach so Ferry Beach was perfect for us. If I lived in the area, I would totally get a season pass.
Great place. I started my walk a bit late in the afternoon and did not make it to the beach. I did, however, make it to this small pond before having to navigate back to my car in the dark. I will definitely be returning another day, but at a much earlier time, to properly explore and appreciate the beauty of the area. Its too bad that it has been such a dry summer because the creek is completely dry, although the creek bed does now offer another trail.
A lot of private beaches around it so not an extensive area. However, it is a lot quieter and less busy them other beaches around. To enter you pay by person and not by car. Maine residents pay $5.A lot of people with dogs. There are signs at the state park saying you can not enter with a dog. So I believe they probably entered though other beach access.
My fiance and I had a very unpleasant experience with a staff member at Ferry Beach State Park. To understand the impact this had on us, heres the backstory. We were due to get married this spring, but had to reschedule due to Covid-19. We ended up scaling back our wedding to only 20 guests and it took place in a nearby local church, following all guidelines. My fiance and I looked forward to having a few pictures taken at the park afterward, since the place had special meaning to us and we have been there many times before. Once we got there, a woman approached us and asked us if we were having a wedding there. We told her we were not. We were already married and just the two of us wanted a few pictures, as we have seen people there taking pictures for the 15+ years we have been going there. She said we needed permission to be there, even though it is a public park and we were not having a wedding there. She proceeded to tell us that we needed to leave, as we did not have a photography permit and were not allowed to take any photos in the park. My fiance and I were very appalled by her behavior and the way she treated us. There are no signs at the gate (meanwhile, a group of 30 people mingled in the park together, with no distancing, a rule that was clearly marked on the signage). There is also no mention of any of these rules on Maines state park government website. I am writing this review to warn anyone who is thinking of taking pictures there. Beware!
A great place to go to the beach. Nice clean beach with plenty of sand for the kids. It was nice soft sand as well with minimal rocks so it made walking out in the water nice. Not bad for $5 per adult.
Nice little beach with course sand. Not much beach space as private beaches flank either side, but not many people can go here with the limited parking. There are restroom and changing facilities a short walk from the beach. Admission is cheap compared to other Maine beaches.
Ferry beach state park is my favorite place to bring my dogs for a night time/early morning walk. Its so clean and beautiful, and usually less busy than most of the other beaches around here.
Not open but lots of people still going. Nice little trails to enjoy. No bathrooms at this time either.
Clean, free parking, and great views. It was cold water but not too bad compared to other New England beaches. Get there early for nearby parking or else you’ll be trying your luck.

Safety and freedom to roam forest to sea shore. The ecology and adventure can satisfy a variety of tastes.
Awesome beach and trails for kids! Maine State Parks never disssapoint
Just plain beautiful. And a bit quieter than the other beaches.
Awesome beach! Havent been in years but still super clean and not crowded.
Havent been here since I was a kid, nice quiet place to enjoy the sun
Fantastic place for a family adventure. Ten out of ten, completely recommend!
Late afternoon is the best time to visit as it is less crowded. Lovely to walk as the tide goes out!
It is a nice little Park. We only went to the beach but it was clean and there is a lifeguard on duty
Its clean not alot of waves. Has a plubic restroom. Places to explore off the beach.
The trails were great for walking through then hitting that wonderful beach
Clean, not crowded, family friendly, gorgeous park, and overall well worth the $10 fee.
Have always loved this place. Very clean and a beautiful place
Verry nice and clean beach! Defenetly recomend!
Small but beautiful stretch of beach with lifeguard on duty
This beach is never crowded even on a hot July day. If youre not into big waves, this place is great. We just lazily floated on the salt water without any swim things. We had a very relaxing morning, and picnic lunch on the beach. I was pleased at the staff working there. They each greeted us warmly; and they were often seen sweeping the boardwalk or picking litter of the beach. There are feet washing stations, but no showers. However, everything was tidy and pleasant.
Often, we think of a beach as a Summers necessity. This beach, while amazing in the Summer, is also terrific in the winter as well. Its a wonderfully charming little beach and always worth the visit.
I love it here! You typically have more room to run around, probably because there arent many parking spots. Even so, its very clean and nice. I recommend this spot to anyone looking to relax and get away from the crowd without getting too far away from anything exciting.
A wonderful place to reflect
Lovely beach! We saw just a few people walking. We enjoyed walking along a short path which led to a pond just before we found the path to the beach. There were also some very clean bathrooms which were helpful for my 5yr old daughter.
Love this place absolutely beautiful
ClosedWith no notice and no place to turn around
Super impressed, especially with the lifegaurds!
Small, accessible, nice & empty in the winter! Plus a great beach walk!
Clean, safe, beautiful and accessible.
This is a great place to visit. Well maintained trail system. A quick walk to the beach the feels very natural. You will not be disappointed.
Lovely park with walking trails and a private beach area. Theres a parking fee but I think its worth it if you want a quiet little area to picnic and hike around, or just sit at the beach.
Great place ! Clean. Picnic areas. Beach area. Nature trails. $5 admission for the day for adults. Pets are allowed in the park but not on the beach itself. Friendly staff. Awesome historic location. A staple here in Southern Maine.
Nice place to relax . If you have a free life time veterans state park pass you get in free. Off season doesnt matter entry is free anyway.
Expensive to park and long walk to beach.
Perfect family beach.
Lived in Scarborough. Ferry Beach was like 10 miles. One of the most beautiful relaxing and enjoying beach. This was many years ago. Hopefully it will be somewhat the same. Loved it. Beach Power.
Have enjoyed this state park for many years, the property and buildings are always clean and the staff is very personable. Excellent place to enjoy the day.
I love going to ferry beach. A quiet beach and walking trails are always nice
My favorite Beach!! Enough said .Bathrooms, showers, picnic area with grills, beach (of course)trails and a nature center. All wrapped up in 1 .my advice get there early sometimes they are packed and you cant get in .
Reserved pavillion for family reunion, large space, very well kept, new oversized grill. Easy walk to the beach
This is a very pretty Beach. It feels so clean and not polluted like others.
Beautiful and quiet! Never over-crowded so you can have a fun relaxing time.
There is a long stretch of very nice beach. Not too crowded. Walking paths
Excellent place to enjoy a day at the ocean....Low tide provides rocks to climb and search for hermit crabs and star fish. Not very packed and has a life guard within a certain distance. Paid parking. Very clean and pristine.
Really nice beach. Sand is clean and surf is a nice size. Hard to find access and can get busy.
Didn t go in Park, been many times, very nice boardwalk--- to ride bicycle -we saw a Huge Blue Herron feeding at short pond on other side of park
Great clean sandy beach for families. I think the picnic area is too far from the beach area for older folks or disabled people to traverse more than once. But the shady picnic area, easy hiking trails, and the sandy beach makes it a great place to to spend an afternoon or a whole hot summer day.
Awesome place to come in the summer. Many friends come to have a good time here.
Very nice and relaxed conference center
It’s a very nice park and beach. I just didn’t like that the park ranger was staring at my group of friends for over half hour and was not paying attention to anyone else on the beach. We were not drinking anything with alcohol but may have built sand castles and had some fun in the sun and surf. I watched and worked on my tan.
Really small for the entry fee but the beach is worth it. Trails are very well maintained and the outhouses clean.
It is a small, beautiful and really well tended park. The trails, bridges and even the swamp were all really enjoyable.
Beautiful trails. Great for walking the dog!
Pretty little park.$5 a person to enter (you pay at the parking lot). Has a nice little beach right on the ocean as well. No pets allowed on the beach, just on the boardwalk. Some nice hiking trails that are pet and kid friendly through the woods near the ocean and around a lake.
Beautiful beach with a lot of parking. Also some nice short wooded trails.
Nice trails and beach area. Not too crowded.
Nice beach.
Beautiful alternative to the busy peer at OOB. Parking is way cheaper.
Nice trails to walk but bring bug spray.
One of my favorite spots to bring the kids. They can check out nature and know that they are safe. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable.
Love love love. Nice Maine sandy beach.
Lovely beach. I like that it has facilities
Very nice beach..very friendly place .
Spent a beautiful day here with my mother for her birthday as part of a weekend getaway. The beach is gorgeous, although the water was too cold for us. And the walking trails through the woods are very easy. We appreciated all of the picnic tables available for our lunch.
Beautiful State Park. Its one of maines national treasure. The best part of this park is that it is situated in Saco, not heavyly trafficed by tourist which makes for a nicer pleasent atomsphere. The park is well kept and has picnic tables with grills in most areas. There is a large group pavilion which needs to be booked in advance but appears to seat alot. The park has plenty of parking.
Great place to take the family
We only spent time at the beach, which was very clean and pretty. The walk from the parking lot to the beach isnt short, but its lovely.
Great beach, very nice picnic tables and grills
I love that I could bring my dog early and let him run. He loved it. The beach is clean, many friendly people, and tons of beach area.
Excellent place to relax great trails and very well maintained!
Bring heavy duty bug spray! Other than the mosquitoes, the trails are delightful. Lots of trails are boardwalks and theyre all short and easy. Theres beach access here and public restrooms. There are fees to enter.
Nice beach. Trails to explore. Bathrooms, shower.
Great place to visit! A little bit off the beaten path. Not super crowded like some of the other beaches in the area. Awesome place to bring your family and enjoy the day with them.
Fun place to watch the boats and play on the beach
Nice walk for us and our pup
Only have been there once. Great access, loved the beach, which I didnt have to pay for and they have restrooms near the entrance. But when I called to ask questions about the park they werent very friendly. Also very difficult to find parking once there parking lots are full and you have to pay to park in most of the them. (Thats why Overall I gave it a 3 star) But because my daughter and me liked the beach I do plan on going again so I will take a taxi next time to avoid having to deal with the parking issues.
