One of the greatest bodies of water in NM, closest to Roswell, where you can throw a birthday party, volleyball with friends, paddle boats, rock-climb, sight see, such a beautiful place been going since I was a kid, about 20 minutes outside Roswell, Chavez County. When its too Hot this is the place to be all day parking

Another Majestic Area of New Mexico!!I have to say, this is a magical place, please take your time to take it all in. I was in Roswell for a few hours and had a long drive to Odessa. I had always wanted to visit these lakes and finally, I had a few hours left before the sun went down. The Bottomless Lakes State Park is only about 20 miles from Roswell and easy to get to as there are signs everywhere. The scenery is very picturesque and you will find, desert, hills, mountains, that red rock that defines the Southwest, cliffs, and blue blue sky.My first stop was the Lazy Lagoon a slowly evaporating body of water, still nice to look at but seemed a little too muddy to take the time to go down the hill and check it out. It is still a very nice photo op if thats your thing. My second stop was the first of the actual Bottomless Lakes this one was called Cottonwood Lake. There are parking and campgrounds at all the lakes, some with facilities, but mostly rough camping at the smaller lakes. Cottonwood lake is carved out in the rocks and surrounded by rocky cliffs, be careful, if you want to swim you will need ropes and please use the buddy system as the lake is deep and its in a rocky depression in the ground. It is still a very really nice area to relax walk around and take photos of. Next up was Mirror Lake which is one lake with two sides separated by a sand bar. This lake is a little bigger than Cottonwood Lake and easier to walk around in. One side is flatter and the other side surrounded by rocky cliffs. The next lake was Inkwell lake, near the Devils inkwell campground. this lake is very small and its literally a hole in the ground surrounded by cliffs, and its hard to get to the water itself. Be careful here as it could be dangerous if you fall in (I almost did). The next lake was Figure 8 Lake, like Mirror Lake its two lakes separated by a rocky causeway. A little bigger than Mirror lake and the water is easy to get to. This one I actually walked into a little on both sides, but be wary they have slippery clay bottoms. By the time I reached the 6th lake, Pasture Lake, it was stiflingly hot and the sun had eaten through my sunscreen which I had applied quite liberally, but nonetheless I was starting to get a serious sunburn. Pasture Lake was the last stop on my tour. Lost lake will have to wait for my next trip. Pasture lake is a small and shallow lake surround by sand and wild grasses, hence the name.Lea Lake, the last Lake in the park is the largest of all the lakes. This is the big one with boating, swimming, a larger camping/RV area, where you can rent paddleboards and pedal boats. I went up to the hilltop and got some great views of the lake there. The trip was great if it wasnt for the massive sunburn I would have stayed a bit longer, but I had a long drive to Odessa and I had to get out of the sun. This is a really unique area of New Mexico, and you can spend a few hours or a few days there. It is worth the effort to get there.

Showed up during the week and had no problem finding a site. We stayed at Devils Inkwell. Vaulted toilets, fairly clean and spacious sites with shelter, table and grill. Great place to see if you are passing by. The creation of this park is fitting for Roswell. Fun climbing, exploring and bird watching.

Bottomless Lakes was introduced to myself and my four legged companion.I must say it was pleasant for the both of us for nearly two weeks thanks to a NM Park Pass. As you either did or not research the Park and likely enjoyed the stay. The number of Lakes to visit is wonderful I think it’s 5. I take lots of pictures and you will be kept busy. The Lake at the RV Park area is gorgeous. Some of the best reflections on sunsets I have ever seen were shot there. Plus it’s a beautiful walk there no matter where you areFinally the people who arrived were all in good spirits. Finally the Park was well kept although I would say the need more help to do a bit of a better job.I do plan on arriving again although it won’t be for cleanliness.Enjoy your travels.

We arrived at the Lea Lake campground after hours and checked in with the camp host on site. Site 5 was absolutely level and of river rock. Theres a space to park your tow/toad next to the RV, too. Full hookups with a picnic table and shelter. Visiting in January, the overnight temp was 30°F. Daytime around 60°F. It was pretty windy (normal?) so grilling was not an option. We did not get to enjoy the water. But the setup is great.

We had visited this park back in 2003, and we wanted to revisit but just had not had the opportunity. Our first visit was only an overnight so there was no opportunity to explore. But this time we visited for over a week and enjoyed the trails and the solitude. Did not enjoy the flies or mosquitoes, they both bite! The day we arrived after we had enters the park there was a torrential rain that damaged the bridge via the main entrance so we had to exit to explore the area via the only other road it needs improvements!

If the restrooms were cleaned once during our stay at Lea Lake Campground I would give five stars. Trash bins overflowing from Memorial Day and not emptied until Tuesday afternoon and the strong winds blew trash all over the place so now three stars. Fire ban in effect but that is not a deterrent to some folks. Pets on leash rule, but like the fire ban no enforcement. Down to two stars. Not a park ranger in sight unless collecting fees.Other than that the scenery is awesome and the Bluff trail is perfect for a hike or a bike ride.

Great place to spend the day with family. Been there twice this winter and each time it was spectacular! Big bluffs and three or four lakes to explore. Picnic area with a grill and table. Park rangers are located on the premises and very friendly. There is overnight camping for RV and renters alike. Potable water and outdoor toilets. The campground has spots located at a good distance from one another. There is a mile long trail that I believe is wheelchair accessible as long as it hasnt rained. Use your imagination and you will have a wonderful time. There is a day fee for use.

We stopped here to investigate the Bottomless lakes on our way back from vacation, and the water looked so inviting we had to stop and swim.Way out in the middle of nowhere this oasis of crystal clear water is quite a sight. The water is so clear you can see little fish swimming next to your feet (they are harmless little guys). The water to my amazement is salty, not as salty as the ocean, but salty enough to notice. There was a life gaurd out until 6, then the park Ranger informed they were off duty and swim at your own risk, the beachy area had plenty of shallow water to keep my little ones safe though so we stayed longer than we intended to.There are shaded benches and a playground as well. It is in the middle of an arid dessert so sunblock is a must.Glad we stopped to check it out, now we have some great memories as souvenirs.

Awesome State Park in the middle of New Mexico. Quite a few different lakes spread throughout the park, including a side-by-side Twin Lake where one side of the lake could support fish and the other side could not due to the saline content. We stayed here two nights in our RV. We were immediately greeted by the camp host, who was heloful. Beautiful State Park in the middle of literally nowhere. Lake is clean and the water is clear. Beautiful sunsets with photo opportunities. The Wetlands with interpretative signs is an added bonus, and Im sure, are amazing after a good rain. We also biked on the Skidmarks mountain bike trail, which was challenging but fun. Our only complaints are: dirty restrooms, trash everywhere in the morning (I think raccoons are getting into cans at night), and the largest population of flies weve ever seen! Beware of deer flies that bite! Despite this, wed still camp here again. FYI... Bring your own ice and drinks. There was no ice available to buy while we were here. Probably cheaper in town anyway.

A really excellent park to visit right outside Roswell. Loved arriving after hours as it gave us an opportunity to explore the area with less congestion. Lake was cool, loved the facilities but the real highlight was the view on the ridge that overlooks the lake/park. Driving along the ridge was phenomenal. Go during sunset and watch the sun set over Roswell. Spectacular.
