Golden Elite and Just Tumble has brought so much joy to our family. Our son became a cheerleader right before our eyes at Just Tumble in a very short time. Yvonne and Rich were always on the sidelines cheering him on! He went from absolutely no tumbling to level 5 tumbling in just over a month! Every day, they told him how amazing he was and how profound it was that he was moving so quickly. They gave him the self-confidence that he needed to succeed in a very competitive sport. Our daughter also found much comfort in Golden Elite and Just Tumble during a very difficult time in her cheer career. She is a 3X NCA Champion and has had the privilege of winning Summit, but she fiercely upholds that her time at Golden Elite has by far been the most memorable and amazing window in her competitive cheer life. She recently told me “ it’s not always about winning, it’s about the feeling that you have when you step out onto the floor with your team “. I am so grateful for the fateful day that we stepped into the lives of Yvonne and Rich Howerton. Although our family has since moved out of California, Golden Elite and Rich and Yvonne hold a very dear place in our heart. I fully believe that it’s because of them that so many kids, even kids that don’t cheer for their program, love competitive cheer! Anybody that can have something negative to say about these two people or their program truly has not taken the time to get to know them. Although Golden Elite is a relatively new gym, it’s moving at lightning speed, and crashing through barriers every season! Where they are located, they compete with some of the hardest competition in the country, that has been around for a very long time. What they are doing with that program, is unprecedented! They are very professional, and they take each one of their athletes as one of their own. To this very day, my daughter wants me to send her routine to Yvonne to look at.. to scrutinize... because she knows to the bottom of her heart, that Yvonne wants her and every other athlete to succeed. People like Yvonne are rare in existence. Anybody that has the opportunity to come in contact with her or her program should consider it a blessing.
My daughter wanted to tryout for cheer but she had zero experience. I spoke with the coaches and we came up with a game plan for her. She started with tumbling which prepared her for cheer tryouts. I am so happy I found this place. Not only do they make you feel like family, they take their time with our kids and help them achieve their goals. My daughter absolutely loves it there. The owners are extremely nice and all of the coaches are amazing! I highly recommend GEA!
New to the gym this year and can say that we love the gym atmosphere and the coaches. Stop by and give it a try they even let you try it the first day for free. Yvonne and Rich are great owners with one goal in mind...your childs success.!! Im a fan -and happy to be a new family member! Like their motto says . GEA is what family looks like.
Having a child passionate about AllStar cheer can be very difficult for a family. There are signicant time and financial commitments that come with this sport but as a parent we have a choice in if we want our child to be able to be an AllStar athlete or not.GEA is as upfront and honest about this commitment at the beginning of every season by providing a full year’s comp schedule prior to any contracts being signed. The family can then decide if they are willing to commit the entire family’s time to that contract. It is not fair for a cheerfamily to bash the entire gym and program because they don’t want to spend their time at competitions. Our family uses these events as “family time” and we make sure to have the best time exploring new cities when we travel for competitions. The coaches and owners are very professional and only want the best for their teams. They ensure that they are not only prepared for comps but they are doing their best at practices to put their best foot forward by learning from each competition what needs to be better. It takes hard work, dedication and a team mentality to be a top notch AllStar cheer athlete. My child wants to be that type of athlete and welcomes any athlete out there that also wants to be at that level. All others need not apply to this gym as you are only letting the rest of the team down.
We have been sending our daughter here for several years and have looked past the unprofessionalism simply because of our daughters love for cheer, but have grown to the point that we will not be returning and don’t recommend the gym to anyone who expects professionalism and who appreciates “family” time. First, the gym touts themselves by claiming to love every family who joins their gym yet they have no respect for family time. Nearly every holiday weekend, or family weekend is dominated by a competition. Presidents weekend, MLK, mother’s day weekend, Easter weekend... to name a few. They also schedule practices on holiday weekends making it difficult to have any family getaways. Should you have several kids like we do, the other siblings pay the price with competitions dominating their holiday weekends and time off from school. Just this past Presidents weekend our kids had a 5 day weekend. The whole family had to travel to a cheer competition on Sat/Sun smack dab in the middle of a five day weekend preventing us from having any family time to getaway. To make matters worse the gym “allows” two weeks in the year for family vacations and they set the schedule, sending an e-mail telling you the two weeks you can go on vacation. With our busy work schedules as well as our other kids schedules if those “two” week options don’t work for us, we can’t go on any family trips all year. This has been the case the past two years. They have practice during holiday weeks when the kids are off school forcing you to stay home and not have family trips. All this while the owner post on Instagram all her vacations she takes quite often... she can have vacations but we can’t. I don’t know about you but when a cheer gym sends an e-mail telling me when I can schedule family vacations that’s when you have to ask yourself if this is the right thing I dedicate so much time and money too.As for professionalism, I have a preteen daughter who is at a very impressionable time of her life. GEA does a lot of travel tournaments. These weekend tournaments seem to be nothing but a Party trip for the owner and her coaches. The drinking is excessive and many times they show up the morning of the competition hungover, looking like a wreck, and reaking of alcohol. I’m tired of the impression this leaves on my preteen daughter. Not to mention we pay big money to go to these tournaments and we should expect the coaches to be as prepared as our little athletes ready to get them warmed up the mornings of competitions. Yet they seem to look at the tournaments a paid trip to party away... and it starts at the top, with the owner. The athletes in our region are always great little competitors Rocklin, Roseville, Granite Bay. Yet GEA just doesn’t seem to compete well in any competitions. If they send 5 teams to a competition all 5 finish near the bottom. Their solution... add more mandatory practices, or send emails out saying the kids need to practice harder. I have to say, the quantity of the practices are obviously not working, it seems to be more of the quality of the practices. The team also communicates via teamsnap app... don’t even think about posting a question or anything that is perceived as negative. If you do the owner removes the comment from the thread... reminds of a something they would do in North Korea...Nonetheless, we are super frustrated with the Unprofessionalism, lack of leadership and disregard for giving families a chance to have family time (just a little) We are done with GEA!
