A very interesting historical site. It was burned down by the British in the 1700s. It was rebuilt to resemble the original fort in the early 20th century. Very well done. The visitor center is very good. Many artifacts and two films to watch. It very historically educational. We really enjoyed it.

A historical look back into Americas past. A must see destination if in the Rome, NY area. This fort played an important roll in American history before the Revolutionary war. Built by the British in just 90 days. You can walk through and see how soldiers lived during these rough times.

The rangers and volunteers get five stars for this property. They do an outstanding job and are passionate about what they do. The fort is not original, it was rebuilt in the 1960s after then-modern buildings were razed to clear land for the fort. There is significance to the fort geographically. It is worth the detour off of I-90 to visit if you have time.

We stumbled upon Fort Stanwix by accident when we saw an exit sign on the interstate that said Rome, NY, and traveling from Rome GA we couldnt resist the urge to go. The surprise was the hidden gem that we found here. The museum, rebuilt fortifications, and staff here where great! I would definitely recommend a stop there if youre into history and such. I found photos I took of the city park, but not of the fort, unfortunately.

I had the chance to visit the fort with my son and his boy scout troop during our aviation merit badge campout. The fort is rebuilt very well and feels like it is old even though it was reconstructed not that long ago. The staff was super friendly and the boys really enjoyed it. They were able to play with the toy guns and run around enjoying being a kid inside of a real fort. Canons were available to touch and there were little mock set ups in each section of the fort of what it may have looked like back in the day. It was a great visit and good for visit with the family of kids who can walk around themselves.

This location is absolutely beautiful and filled with fascinating artifacts. The presentation of the history of the fort is done from multiple perspectives, giving a more complete understanding of the political, social, and economic motivations and climate at the time. The replication of the fort itself is simply amazing! Every turn has something new to explore, and its very easy to imagine life there during its existence. Its a small enough location for an educational family outing, and the videos, artifacts, and knowledgeable rangers and volunteers will easily keep children interested and engaged. I strongly recommend alotting at least an hour to properly take in the visitors center and the fort itself.

Awesome experience and the staff/rangers were super nice to the 7 year old I babysit. At first he didnt want to go at all but after everything he was excited and had a great time; learned some things too. Would highly recommend this for any family or people with kids.Whole thing last generally an hour and half to two hours. Depends on how much you look at. The 7 year old I watch was mainly interested in the fort itself and the activity they have the kids do.

Much bigger than expected and a lot to see here. This is a carefully rebuilt fort with a lot of history from 2 different wars to learn about. We had an RV and parked on the street but we were there during the week in the morning so that was a factor in finding available parking. Worth a stop if in the area or even a diversion if close by. Kind of neat to see a faithfully built Revolutionary War fort.

This is a great place to learn some history of the American Revolution. The fort is a reconstruction on the original site and give a great view of how the Colonial Army used the fort to change part of the war. The interpretive guides at the Fort explain not only how the Fort was used to fend off the British soldiers but also what life was like I mob the Fort. They did have a demonstration of how the cannons were readied and fired. Also how they were used to defend the fort. Well worth a stop here if you have a couple of hours.

Its a good reproduction of a 18th century wilderness fort. Unfortunately, its currently still under construction (or restoration?). Several areas are closed to the public and the ongoing work is distracting. Theres a small gift shop and some rooms where short films about the forts roll in the American Revolution are shown, and display cases with artifacts from the original fort. There are ranger led tours and admission is free. As the entire edifice is right in the middle of town, food and lodging are near at hand, as is free parking.
