Excellent course and am glad to see them on golf now!! Have played there 4 times or so this year and it has always been in great shape. The staff is great and Ty and his team have the place improving all the time and looking great!! They also have the best cart staff, one young man named Evan, gave me a ride back to my car since it was raining!! True class!

We had a very enjoyable round of golf at Waterford yesterday. Except for #10, all the tee boxes were in good shape. The shorter par 3s were heavily divoted of course, and #10 looked like it had been eroded by a flash flood from a nearby creek. Fairways were in great shape as were the sandtraps. The greens were amazing! Lightning fast and true, the slopes from Irwins original design. We played in less than 4 hours but did not rush. Definitely on our short list of places to play in the Charlotte area!

The course is in the best shape that I have ever seen. The greens are in mint condition. I love the course set-up as some holes giveth and some holes taketh. I recommend this course. I hope in the near future that they up the anti on their practice facility to match the course.

I never do this, but after all the mixed reviews, I felt compelled to leave one of my own. I played this place on a whim, and was thoroughly impressed. The staff was awesome, the course was in absolutely gorgeous shape, and I was able to walk on as a single, basically had the place to myself. Granted it was about 100 degrees at 3:30 in the afternoon, but you would still have a crowd at Springfield or Fort Mill. They charged me half rate since the greens had just been plugged, but even so, they were still not bad.TL:DR great conditions, friendly staff, no crowds.

Not good, greens should be call browns, tee boxes are ate up, can you say fertilizer. Good layout, good pace, not busy, not worth $30

Greatly improved over the last year. Staff is very friendly, greens are fast but true. Course is tight - resist the driver and stay out of trouble! With all the rain, its in great shape. Tee boxes are ok, but getting better.

The Golf Facility was excellent starting with the brand-new appearance of the Clubhouse and recently-repaired cart paths & parking lot. The Greens are the best they have been in 15+ years and the fairways are thick & full. Some of the tee boxes have fresh sod & necessary repairs are being continued daily such as new carpet & rearrangement in the Golf Shop & Snack Bar. If you haven’t played Waterford in a while or you would like to play Golf without the sight of houses, I would give it a play soon!!!

Literally the worst golf experience of my life. They don’t allow you to bring your own water. During these times you would think they would encourage people to bring their own but not the case here. The starter and the employee in the clubhouse were both rude. Also the course cost $55 to play. At most it’s a $35 course. The course has horrible drainage and was a complete swamp. This is literally the first time I’ve ever reviewed a course negatively and I’m only doing it so you don’t feel as ripped off as I did.

Course is in great shape. Brand new tee boxes on the front nine, fast greens and a good layout. Definitely recommend playing this course for the price it is now ($35 for twilight)

Hadnt played Waterford in I cant remember how long and I can only say too bad its a 40+ minutes drive to get there otherwise it would be my go to course. Conditions were as outstanding as you can find at a public course. If youve never played WGC before the course is challenging enough but wont beat you up, i.e., water doesnt really come into play and I wasnt in a bunker all day (unlike Birkdale where I bring a beach chair along.) A must play of the public courses around CLT.

This course has had a major and phenomenal turn around sense The owner of the Panthers bought the course. In the short time he has owned it he has completely changed the horrific greens from bent, to mini verde Bermuda ! Absolute game changer! We played on the 24th of may, 2020 not expecting much but hoping so. They have already fixed all 18 holes of cart paths. The greens which were probably done of the worse in the world are now firm, smooth, fast and incredible. Seriously on the level of skybrook of Rocky River. D Teppar has already dropped 3 million on the course which has always been a great Hale Irwin course with a challenging, fair, but risk rewarding course. I’m so happy now, and more to come. The fairways have phenomenal turf but are last on the list of renovations because frankly they are very solid. Every sand trap has new sand ! The tee boxes are being re done now and the back 9 is better than the front but they are getting there. Lots of great panthers golf gear in the Clubhouse already . A year ago I would of rated this course a one out of five stars, It was atrociously horrible. I now rate it a 4.5 to a five because the greens and sand are absolutely perfect. This is a great fun layout that will challenge a low handicapper and will surrender low scores if you take the risk provided. There are multiple tees to choose from so plenty of choices for the novid or mid level handicapped. This course is fastly becoming a stud and at 55$ on the weekends and anywhere from 28$ to 43$ during the week which is phenomenal for the condition and playability of the course. I’ll be returning over and over and if you haven’t played it or you have not played it because of how bad it got, seriously done yourself a favor and get down to Rock Hill and play this gem !!!!

No exaggeration, just shut this place down and build some houses. Its the perfect description of a dog track. Absolutely one of the worst golf courses in the Charlotte suburbs. Greens are completely unplayable. Lots of blind tee shots, and a very basic layout. Greens only have about 50% grass so the ball bounces non-stop. The rest of the greens are dead black dirt. Avoid this place. Go play anywhere else.

Played a round here last weekend. Course is in great shape, greens were in good shape as well. I was informed they had some trouble and lost most of the greens in the middle of the year. You ppl beating them down should go play it now. They have worked very hard to get it back in order. My only complaint is pace of play because of 2 groups in front of us. A ranger would be helpful. Nice job Waterford.

Just finished playing a round of golf on the worst greens and tee boxes Ive been on in my life. No mention was made of the terrible, no grass conditions of the greens before our round. When this was brought to the attention of the clubhouse staff, we were told to go to several other courses in the area and try those...this will not be a problem since I wont waste another dime at Waterford.

The course is not in good shape. The greens arent terrible, they are playable. Pace was slow but I didnt mind so much because I was only playing 9. Prices are definitely too high for the condition of the course.

The greens and fairways are in good shape. Some tee boxes are under repair. A bit expensive at $52 per person with cart for a midday Sunday. Staff was pleasant and the on course cart service was very nice, but they shut it down at 2:00pm. Easy to get to and ample parking.

Not worth $42 by any means! Theyve lost the greens, they are terrible, Most of tee boxes are bad. Worst condition Ive ever seen it in! Its a $20-$25 course at best right now, the 9 hole at Winthrop might be in better shape honestly. No one was upfront with just how bad the condition of the course was, very deceitful in my opinion. My buddy and I will not be back.

The staff is friendly and helpful getting you in and out on the course quickly. A 2-person golf cart is included in the fee. They have nice restaurant area that has sandwiches and drinks available for lunch. The 18 hole course is beautiful.

Front desk guy worst Ive ever encountered. Should not be the face of any business. Needs to be in a job that does not meet the public. Maybe cart boy. However, course is better than expected. Has been pretty bad in the recent past.

Give the greens 10 days and the course will be great...

Its sad. I brought a group of golfers down from Huntersville on May 4th and we were very disappointed. This course was great after they redid the greens. I dont know what happened but the greens and tee boxes were in terrible shape. It was definitely not worth the $55 they charged. I hope they can save the greens. I would look elsewhere in the meantime.

Recent bad reviews were premature. Just got home with wife from best golf experience in over a year! Ive never played here before today but it was easy to find, nice parking close to clubhouse. Britton Mullis was hands down fantastic! I asked about memberships, he covered all bases, plus all sister courses info. I played single with my wife driving cart. Aerification process is over. Most tees and greens (not all) are great. Fairways looking nice with plush buffer along edges to rough. The work theyve done is obvious. Guys out dropping sand behind players who forgot to cover tee/fairway divots. We stopped for a bite after 9 at hole in one cafe. Attendant super friendly. Member ahead of us said course looks and feels great. I agreed! Staff was unbelievably nice, helpful, went out of their way to impress. That gets my vote! I plan to call Britton and Tyler this week to discuss a membership. PS- Always room for improvement. Work on the cart paths, bumpy but you get that right and youll be set! Thank you Waterford GC!

Challenging course to play. Accurate tee shots are necessary for this course as many fairways seem to look narrow. Cart path recently repaired and greens are coming in nicely this time of year. Good value course for what you pay for here.

Played there about a week ago. The course layout wasn’t bad, the greens were in horrible shape. Do not plan on going back anytime soon.

Greens are not even greenThey are more of a matted down black/brown color. Even though they had been aerated it was awful. Course used to be ok so to speak but dont...please dont waste your money. A 9 hole municipal would put this to shame...really!

Course was in decent shape. The cart paths need a little work but all in all it was a pleasant experience. There are some tricky holes that make for a fun round and the grill has good food.

The staff at Waterford is great. Always friendly and accommodating. I try to hold an outing there whenever I can. They are putting the time and money in all of the right places to make the course great. Yea, the cart paths need help. But I would personally rather a course get the actual course in top shape before moving onto cart paths. If you havent played Waterford since the need management, you should check it out.

Bring your bug spray. I have never seen so many mosquitoes in one place before.Clumps of grass in fairways due to infrequent mowing is bad enough. Bugs make it unbearable. Quit after nine. I will not be back.

Awesome local track. Greens could be a bit firmer but the course plays well for all types of golfers.

Greens and tee boxes need help. No diagram to hole layout. Your playing blind. Nothing of scorecards and/ or at tee boxes. Most had white poles for 150 yardage nothing else. Some holes had nothing so guess you wing it.

Fairways and greens in pretty good shape. Golf cart paths are awful. Some tees are not great. Overall good day golfing.

Cart paths are badly in need of repair. Fairways and greens are very play-able. Suggest spending whatever funds available on cartpaths first, then other issues. Green fees and cart prices are very fair considering dis-repair and lack of maintenance.

Always difficult to rate courses, as I firmly believe it depends on the type of golfer you are. You can have fun playing golf anywhere, and Waterford is no exception. The layout makes for some interesting challenges. For the layout and difficulty, I would give it four stars. Some holes can be challenging to keep the ball in the fairway, even with a good shot due to the multiple slopes. As on the website, there is a fair amount of water and hazzards, although they really dont come into play if you are a solid ball striker. If you loose a ball, its going to be in the thick woods, which generally line the fairway on both sides of every hole. As anyone knows, you never get a good lie in Bermuda rough, so critical to keep in the fairway. Greens also appear to be quite healthy. Staff is friendly. Havent accessed the snack bar, so I cant comment there.Some cons: fairways and greens are shaggy. Like I said, depends on the type of golfer you are. If you like fast greens and tight fairways, then scratch Waterford off your list. Often times, appears the ball is sitting DOWN in the fairway. Most bunkers are OK, but a few that are deplorable. Speaking of deplorable, the tee boxes...sheeeeesh! Often times, very difficult to find a flat, green surface to set up on...especially from green/yellow tees. Cart paths also need to be redone, so if you have some nice, forged clubs in your bag, Id put covers on them or prepare for significant amount of bag chatter.They do a great job of keeping water on the course. Range is standard, with plenty of hitting area. However, often times they shut it down in the evening without posting on the website...I think its now Tuesdays that they shut down early to do a clean pick....frustrating if you are a member and you are driving 35-45 mins to do some range work in the afternoon....lesson...call first.Worth a play, but not at standard rate. Id play Edgewater if you are the area and only have 1 round to play; more challenging and better course conditions

I have played this course 2 or 3 times but that was within a 1-2 year time period...everytime Ive played it the cart paths are terrible but the course itself is fanomial other than the roughs are freaking insane You literally have to pay very close attention to where your ball lands within legal play.... I had to take 3 penalty strokes due to that But other that the staff is great and highly recommend course to play
