First place out for fun since the pandemic became real. Well done on the distancing and well done on the show!
The star show was great!
Took my girl friend to a show last year, she has major leg problems . Hated the new seats, almost tipped over backwards. I have had better seats a movie theaters. We were very disappointed. Also too many very young kids, I remember years ago you had to be over a certain age to get in, now just a big baby sitting place. We well never go again

Very educational experience
Awesome planetarium, cool shows, amazing piece of Rochester history.
Dont waste your time. We attended The Sky Tonight Show on Sunday 2-17-19 at 2:45. WE paid $38.00 for a show that barely lasted 20 minutes and was horrible. We were unpleasantly surprised by the new renovation, the old cool chairs that recline to see the show on the roof, Gone. They have been replaced by freestanding folding chairs, and fabric bean bag chairs that we would never have our kids sit in on the floor... or let you recline to see the show. Disappointed!
Brought my grandchildren for their 1st planetarium visit. They enjoyed it. That said I was disappointed. Their new digital system doesn’t seem to be nearly as sharp as “Carl”. Also using Carl added to the experience. Seeing how it moved added to the science fiction factor of space in general. Sometimes newer isn’t better. Not saying I won’t return but I’d like to see Carl return. Probably won’t happen.
Seating is awful. There are a handful of chairs that recline (they look like lawn chairs) and many that don’t recline and are incredibly uncomfortable for viewing the screen. My neck was sore after a few minutes. Also, it’d be great if the staff could enforce not allowing people to use their phones during shows. The couple in front of me had their phones out the entire time, so all I could see was their blinding screens. Very disappointed, as I’ve always been a huge fan of the planetarium.
I’m shocked to see any bad reviews about the renovation. The chairs and bean bags are awesome and it gives you an outdoor experience. I would agree for the price the shows are a bit short (25 mins). My feedback to the planetarium would be to increase the shows to 45-60 mins. We are here to learn and there’s so much to see! I can’t wait to check out one of the Pink Floyd laser shows!
Really nice place to see the stars in the winter! The show The Sky Tonight was kid and adult friendly. I went on a date here and it was 7$ a person for a half hour show. It started a few minutes late but compensated. The guy who taught us about what we were seeing was very informative in a fun way. I would like to see another showing here!
Good time
Attended a wedding here and the couple was supposed to have a presentation under the stars but their effects didnt work! We wait for almost half an hour for it but nothing happened. We were disappointed but I know it was heartbreaking for the couple. Nice reception area though. Great food, too.
This kills me, but its two stars. This has been one of my favorite places on earth since I started coming here, oh... maybe 40 years ago? I fell in love with the place, and with Carl. The space tunnel, the giant 3d moon, even the cautionary video they show before each show, every part special to me.So obviously I was pumped out of my mind to see the newly renovated version. I was hoping they upgraded the seating, since it got a big downgrade during their last renovation. The old seats swiveled, were deeply cushioned, and had speakers right in the headrest. Just awesome!First off, all of the exhibits outside the theater are exactly the same, no upgrades at all. So far, Im cool, I loved it before and love it still. I was hoping for *something* new or different, but I figured all of the renovation money went into the main event.Well.The chairs have been MASSIVELY downgraded. There are no real theater seats, just... OFFICE CHAIRS. Wait, youre asking me, you mean like someone would sit in if they worked at the DMV or something? EXACTLY. Just stupid desk chairs. Not only do they not recline, but there is no head support at all, for a place where the main event occurs on the CEILING.Sorry Im shouting, its just like I say, I really love this place, and this is such a monumentally stupid thing to do.There are a few folding deck chairs that do recline, but only eight or so. If youre further back in the line than 8, youre screwed. Youll either end up missing the show or having a bad neck ache. I guess its because they want to clear out the chairs so they can cater events in there. Great for them, but its a giant middle finger to people who actually enjoy planetarium programming. The kids get beanbag chairs, and they liked that. I think the adults would have liked that better than what was presented. I mean, just a bunch of desk chairs thrown into a room. Sorry to belabor the point but its just. so. dumb. The new projection system is better, really impressive. If the seats were at all suited to planetarium viewing, this review would be a five. But, as it stands, its a like a restaurant serving delicious soup that only gives you forks to eat with.
The RMSC planetarium is an under utilized Rochester gem. The programming is incredible, stimulating, and is always changing to keep us up-to-date on whats happening in our in our universe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and joyously share the wonders of both our universe and space exploration with us.
We go every month to a show at the Plantaium! We just love it I am not a member but I love the shows ! They a fun learning experience for everyone young and old !I wish some times the show would not end there so Great !ThanksHolly
This place is awesome. Love the Radiohead and Pink Floyd laser shows. I recommend bringing diffracting glasses to make the experience more extreme!
Just great!
Great place! Upgrades coming should be marvelous.
An excellent Rochester amenity.
Would like better chairs.came out with neck pain .staff was great.good people..bad chairs
Must see place.
My family are frequent visitors to the area and my wife won (in a contest) 4 free passes to the planetarium and science/history museum next door. The musuem next door was fantastic and I plan on giving it a good review. The planetarium not so much. There are 5 of us so when we went in line to purchase another ticket the kid kept trying to charge us for 5 tickets. We told him we already had 4 (and showed him) so we only needed 1 more. He kept saying I dont understand what you are telling me. This went on back and forth for about 5 minutes. Finally I just said look: forget you saw us. Forget all about the fact we showed you these free passes. I would just like to buy one combo ticket. Thats it. He was still confused and went to get help. When we explained to the other guy there are5 of us and already have 4 tickets, we want to buy one more he understood perfectly. But he charged us for one admission to the planetarium only for 6 bucks when we asked for the combo pass to also visit the museum so it should have been 14 dollars. They looked confused and said what do you mean combo ticket? We had to point out the sign above their heads that said COMBO TICKET FOR PLANETARIUM AND MUSEUM $14. and they were like ohhh I see. I dont understand how hard that was to understand? Finally got into the seating area, and unfortunately instead of planet and outerspace themed things like you would expect, it was a Christmas music and laser light show. My two younger kids and wife loved it, my teenage son and myself were a little bored with it. Once the show is over, there is really nothing else to see or do at the planetarium, at least not what we saw. Just a few photos of outerspace that you can just google at home. To me, the whole place was a little disappointing and I will never go back. However, I would like to point out again, the museum next door is fantastic! I highly reccommend visiting the museum.
Very cool to go on warm Saturday nights and view the stars through the telescope
This place always brings back great memories....since j was in grade school every experience was great and to this day each visit is nostalgic....staple place for Rochester NY
Everything is fantastic except opening their doors 30 mins before the show. I do NOT understand why they dont keep their doors open certain time throughout day & night!
Great star shows, lots of good information
I used to come here often as a child. Was disappointed in the 10+ min intro when I took my kids. They lost patience. Start w the show, do the info segment at the end
Drove 2 hrs to find out the planetarium was only open to schools not the public. What a disappointment!!!!!
Poor excuse for a planetarium
Fun laser light shows!
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool effects!!!
Educational and fun!
