From the moment we arrived I felt like a welcome guess. The seating attendants were very kind and happy to help. We had mezzanine seats, third row back and the view was just fine. I thought we would be farther from the stage than we were. The sound was just fine as well. The attendants let us roam the theater to view the gorgeous chandelier and even engaged us in some trivia. (In case you are asked, there are 3500 crystals in the chandelier, but you didnt hear that from me.) This is a beautiful theater.
Acoustics are good and the that is pretty. Its small so I imagine most seats have good views. No where does it say, that we could find, and you can only take water into the theater, so if you wait in the concession stand and get there right before the event starts, guess what? Throw it out, you cant take it into the thats with you.
Theater is amazingly beautiful. The Nutcracker is so well done. We are lucky to have the RPO, such a fantastic orchestra. The intermission snack line needs work... Maybe some stanchions to help organize the lines and make it more efficient. Otherwise a top notch experience!
The Eastman is a thrill just to sit inside and hosts the very best Jazz/Blues and is home to The Rochester Philharmonic orchestra. I grabbed nosebleed seats to see a high end concert- and was very sorry that I didnt get an aisle seat....the seating is so tight that (and I have bad knees) I had a hard time because they kept cramping up. Suggestion: While this is definitely the go to venue for some amazing acts, shows and events - choose your seats wisely as they are not built for comfort. On the plus side, even sitting in the balcony offers a great view and acoustics.
I really enjoy this theater. Obviously things will vary depending on what you go see, but overall its a nice place. The theater is beautiful. The building is nice and the bathrooms are usually clean. Also they put on some cool shows. Parking isnt too bad either with the east Ave garage right next door.
Ive been present for plethora of performances at Eastman. From modern dance, classical ballet, movies and video games with musical accompaniment, to classic orchestral pieces, Eastman does it all. The RPO has a repertoire that rivals any orchestra. Truly, a talented group; you wont be disappointed.
I recently attended the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras performance of The Nightmare Before Christmas with my 4 year old daughter. I was hoping it would be a good introduction to the orchestra and it was wonderful. We had box seats (Mezzanine, last box, house right, front row) so she could see and it was a great choice. She was already familiar with the movie so was very excited to see it on the big screen. We also enjoyed discussing all the different instruments she could see on stage before the performance. The theater is beautiful and she enjoyed exploring it before the performance. The show was at 7 PM but the conductor didnt come on stage until about 7:13 PM. If I had known, I might have waited a little before making our way to our seats as she started to get antsy waiting for it to start. (We were in our seats at 6:45). Im used to performances starting 5 mins late at The Kennedy Center in DC. We were also very lucky finding street parking. I look forward to returning often!
Saw the holiday pops for the 1st. Wonderful show. Great seats. Lovely afternoon with my son.
Went to the Holiday Pops and had a wonderful time as usual! The RPO, Don Potter, and the high school chorale were all fantastic! Such a wonderful way to bring in the Christmas season!!!
Beautiful old theater with great acoustics. The RPO symphony has a wonderful venue to showcase their talent!
A true gem of Rochester! Saw the RPO Holiday concert. Great seats everywhere. We got there early and the ushers allowed my daughter and I to get close to the stage, and gave us a history lesson on the chandelier. Kodak may not be what it once was, but this theatre is outstany!
Beautiful theatre in the grand style of yesteryear. Our daughter plays in Tuba Christmas and it is always wonderful to see her get to perform in such a beautiful venue.
Attend many concerts here. Great venue beautiful venue and good accoustics
It was nice, the theatre is lovely.....the program, Handels Messiah was just ok....I guess I was just expecting more pageantry for the Holidays. That said the RPO and chorus were very nice with what they were expected to perform. The soloists were good with the exception of the bass who couldnt sustain his note.
RPO is second to none! Concert was wonderful. I dont think theres a bad seat in the house acoustically.
I just saw the RPO performance. It was amazing to say the least. The guest soloist was beyond words and so was the sound of our Philharmonic. I could not be more thankful to catch this show. I am definately going to spend more time with the RPO this season. Do not miss it. I need to take the kids to thier little mermaid showing upcomming in march. It was an amazing night at one of my favorite historic places in rochester.
Amazing place.I once experienced a wonderful concert
Absolutely stunning. Nothing compares to the architecture in upstate NY. The sound makes the theater come to life.
The music was wonderful. The naval choir was superb. Jeff Tysik directed it all and it was amazing.
Spectacular theater and music to match. Always worth the time.
Watched The Nutcracker performed by the Rochester Ballet Co. and Philharmonic Orchestra in the best theater ever, simply fantastic!
The most amazing building with an absolutely wonderful orchestra!!
Tuba Christmas is outstanding at this location. Look forward to this event every year.
It was absolutely wonderful! The three beautiful ladies singing had such lovely voices. They did an amazing job singing all the Divas songs and of course the conductor and orchestra were fantastic!! I enjoyed the performance from start to finish!!!
Beautiful early 20th century theater -- one of the historic gems of downtown Rochester. You can enter almost any time the Eastman School of Music is open as long as there is not a performance underway. Climb to the top level to take in the chandelier and wall paintings.
My graduation was there. Its a beautiful place for a venue
We saw the Nutcracker and it was a great way to kick off the holiday season!
Went for 2019 East Ridge High Graduation to see my granddaughter grsduate. Beautiful auditorium! Restrooms were spotless. Staff was incredibly friendly.
Beautiful theater,great Orchestra,impressive performance.
Not a bad seat in the house. Great acoustics.
One of the finest jewels in the arts scene in Rochester. The volunteers and staff are always outstanding, the programming is top notch, and every visit feels like a special night out. Not only are performances here consistently amazing, the entire venue is outstanding. Full of history, kept in amazing condition, and always comfortable.
Beautiful space, not a bad seat in the house.
Gorgeous theatre, wonderful RPO,Susan B Anthony program
Beautiful theatre, not a bad seat in the house.
Great place. Love the new look. Great venue.
A beautiful classical venue. The space is so beautiful that the show starts before it even begins.
I have never been disappointed with any concert or event that Ive attended at the Eastman. Some of the events are still as clear and incredibly beautiful as they were when I attended them, even decades later. This city is incredibly lucky to have a venue like the Eastman. It is truly world class.
Wonderful performance! Cant get enough of the holiday music. I havent been here in years, so nice to be back. This theater is gorgeous! The Staff were great as soon as we walked in the door to help us find our seats.
Such a wonderful venue. We went to hear my son play with the symphony. Truly a great experience.
Wonderful, historic theater. A true gem.
First time we visited really enjoyed it want to visit again. Is very nice inside the staff is nice bathrooms are clean I love the architecture the Aesthetics. Enjoyed watching the Ghostbusters and listening to the orchestra play. Definitely plan to come again
Beautiful place, magnificent performances, courteous staff. Concession stand serving drinks, beverages, coffee and small snacks before the show and again at intermission. Every seat is a good seat. The architectural design and artistry is magnificent. It leaves you in awe. The performances are unforgettable. A wonderful experience for a special occasion or a night on the town. Good entertainment for all ages.
A beautiful and professional theatre.
Excellent in every way. I understand why people buy season passes (also, not me). The musicians are phenomenal.
Good music venue, particularly for classical and orchestral music. I have attended concerts and performed as a singer in this theater, the acoustics are amazing. While the RPO and other national names can be too expensive for regular attendance, the Eastman theater and music school offer many low-price and free community music events that are worthwhile. The theater itself is stunning and the seats quite comfortable. Only drawback is very limited restrooms for performers with a larger ensemble...trying to use them during a short intermission is impossible. Plenty for patrons in the audience area though, and the womans lounge on the balcony level is worth a visit during your time there.
Beautiful venue! Parking nearby.
Eastman Theatre is a lovely place to see the Rochester Philharmonic or one of the many special shows throughout the year. Very lovely old building!
Outstanding job by Jeff T. and the RPO
Beautiful theatre! Nutcracker with RPO was fantastic!
Very good place for events and graduation. I personally liked the ambiance the architecture exuded.
We came to the Leslie Odum Jr. concert last night it was great! And only enhanced by the wonderful venue. We enjoyed everything thoroughly. Will come again.
Beautiful theatre, Saw the nutcracker and Harry Potter here with the rpo. Wonderful experience. Don’t ever park on the swan st side of the garage during an event, just a heads up.
There for our granddaughter. She had a small part in the Nutcracker. Last time I was there was over 50 years ago for Eastman School of Music concert.
The school went for a city-wide field trip and it was an amazing experience. The students were engaged and the teachers enjoyed it!
This early 20th century theater is beautiful and well taken care of. A real must for a show or to see the RPO.
Went here to see Eddie Izzard. It is a very spacious hall. Good leg room and comfortable seats. We had a great view despite being several rows back and the place was very clean and well maintained.
Beautiful theater, Tuba Christmas was a super fun concert !
RPO was amazing as always, these movie soundtrack performances are so well put together.
Beautiful place for concerts with the RPO. Been going fir various concerts for the past 29 years!
The RPO is great!
The jewel of Rochester. Always love the RPO. The concert hall itself is beautiful with great acoustics and friendly ushers. Bonnie Raitt once stopped dead during a concert to remark how great the sound was on stage.
Dude this place is beautiful ! If youve ever a chance to go and see a performance there you will not regret it.
A grand old beautiful concert hall
A treasure in the city of Rochester, the performances never fail to wow and the RPO musicians and Ward Stare are world class. Were just lucky enough to have them here in Rochester!! The theater itself is beautiful and even after the remodel, the original charm and many of the signature fixtures and decor remain to preserve the integrity of the history behind this incredible, upscale performing arts venue.
Great acoustics, wonderful atmosphere. Not a bad seat in the house
Beautiful style theater. Carvings and frescos and gold leaf and and velvet curtains. Its a nice size, too, with no bad seats, even on the balcony. Ushers are all business but approachable. A modern sound system has been overlaid and its not as muddy as youd expect from that adaptation. Cute little cafe in the lobby. One small complaint - restrooms are downstairs and I have yet to find the elevator. My knees can still do stairs if need be, but it seems a barrier to those who cant.
RPO Christmas show was wonderful
Beautiful theatre, comfortable seating, great acoustics. Very pleasant experience.
Such a beautiful theater. Lots of history and great acoustics. A pleasure every time I go.
Beautiful and historic theatre in downtown Rochester.
We were treated to New York statesbest and brightest Young musicians. It was a wonderful experience. The ambience and acoustics of the Eastman theatre made it an absolutely exhilarating and enjoyable experience.
What can I say? The Eastman Theater is THE place to catch a show or listen to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Well appointed, classic...you feel special just sitting there looking around at the architecture. We were there to see Patti Lupone in May and Seal in June as part of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. Two thumbs up.
RPO is top notch. Great music, comfortable hall. Best seats ever. Not cheap, but worth it. GO!
Highly recommend the LushLife performance of the music of Duke Ellington! Top notch performance!
Great venue, great music, lots of fun
I had such a wonderful time seeing the sounds of Abba. The sound was amazing. The lighting was wonderful. The seating was wonderful. I cant wait to see another performance here.
