Beautiful trail, well maintained only a couple small trees were across the path

Not a bad trail for hiking leisurely. The scenery wasnt anything to write home about but we had a good time. The trail had lots of intersecting connections which was simultaneously helpful and confusing. Here are a few pics!

Lovely, easy hike, though you are still very close to the road for much of the loop. Great for a stroll, beautiful foliage, but maybe not the best fit if youre looking for that lost in the woods feeling.

This is an okay hike if your main intention is to just get out and exercise with your family. However, naturalists will be disappointed because this trail has the worst invasive species problem I have ever seen in a natural area. The native flora is sparse because it’s been completely smothered by invasives.My main interest in hiking is nature photography, but there’s just not much to see here. I left with fewer than 150 photos when a hike of similar length usually produces 600+ photos. The only bright spot was a small patch of milkweed in a power line ROW which was buzzing with insect activity, in stark contrast with the rest of the landscape.

Close to city, level trail in good shape. As others have said, trail is parallel to road so you wont be way off in the woods. During week not much traffic so it is nice.

The dog said he had a lot of fun. 10/10 sniffs, would run up and down the trail again.

This easy, leisurely trail goes through peaceful forest and around hills to the Roanoke campground. For a longer hike it can be turned into a loop hike taking you to rt. 621 and back up the trail through dense woods filled with aromatic flowers. But watch out where you step. This is still considered to be part of the Roanoke Valley Horse Trail.

Best hike in Roanoke for that post work week hiking fix. It’s easily accessible and there are ways to make it 2 miles up to 5 miles if you find yourself tired or ready for more.

Nice hike, wooded. Hiked about 2 miles, but says the full trail is 5.4 ml. Alot of connection trails, so you have options.

Nice hike good trail work,there are lots of interceptions so watch for the red blaze if you hiking the entire loop thats 5.6 miles.

A nice marked trail for hiking with some climbing

This is a good place to go for an easy walk in nature or a trail close to home/the city without driving too far! The trail follows closely to the roads so that can be stressful as far as not being able to get away from the sound of traffic, also passing behind peoples houses on Yellow Mountain Road. Its not really a hiking trail its more of what reminds me of a walk in the park. So if you wanna get away from traffic noises, suburbs, and the city noise and life, dont go to this trail! But if youre wanting a nice steady walk, its your trail!

Well maintained trail considering all the rain weve had. Easy to moderate with only three steep hills.

This is a good trail for runners the elevation changes are not too difficult

I thought it was just OK. The loop we did was near the road the whole time and required a small portion of actually walking alongside the road directly and it was near power lines. Other than that it was pretty beautiful, we saw an owl which was beautiful. I think the trails could use better markings, the maps werent the easiest to follow.

If you are enjoying the Blue Ridge Parkway of Virginia, and would like to park close to a walking trail where you are not far from you vehicle on a light to moderate difficulty walk along the forest trails then this is the place...This place is usually used by short term parkers to get reoraginized for onwards travel and maybe one or two cars of one or two persons actually using the trails...A short walk when you need it not far from and usually within sight or your car...Enjoy..!

Awesome trail for running. Very well maintained and very scenic. Actually, I enjoy the solitude so disregard everything that I said, the trail is awful and rabid squirrels are everywhere. Stay away!!!
