One of the first outings in a public space with my daughter since the COVID-19 pandemic was to The Discovery. We are members, and we were excited when we learned that The Discovery would be reopening, with limited capacity, on the weekends. We decided to make a reservation ahead of time, which I highly recommended given the limited capacity. It also made it easy upon our arrival. When we arrived, we were greeted, and welcomed with smiles from the staff. They also briefly went through all of the new procedures in place and explained some of the limited closures. As we explored, we enjoyed all of the open space due to the limited capacity. We were also pleased to see the friendly staff regularly cleaning as guests left different areas. It has always been very clean during previous visits but seeing the additional steps that were being taken allowed us to feel more comfortable as we made our way to different spaces. We brought our own hand sanitizer but noticed sanitizer stations in the museum. The other guests there were also respectful of space and social distancing. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The current public health crisis has impacted us all. The Discovery provides our community with a safe, fun way to continue learning and spend time out of the house as a family, which is essential during these difficult times. It is also a great way to spend the day as it gets cooler outside. We look forward to visiting again soon!
One of my grandsons had his first birthday here and I absolutely loved it! Id never been here before, and that made the birthday party all the better. There were so many things for the kids to do and all the kids enjoyed it!! All of the kids, including the 1 year old birthday boy, had a blast! The party room (facing out onto the lower level) was perfect so attendees could eat with a view. :) The staff was super friendly. It was an all around awesome experience and I would highly recommend it as a place for a childs birthday party! Reasonably priced too.
This museum is outstanding to the max! Our 16 yo wanted to go while we were in town and I was a bit worried that it would be too young for him to really enjoy, but we all had a blast! My husband and I were just as entertained as he was! The staff were all excellent and the bathrooms were super clean, which seems to be more and more rare these days. We even got to take home our own trinket we made from the 3D printer! Our favorite part was the food sorting machine where you had to put wooden blocks of food into the correct spaces on a conveyor belt I Love Lucy Style! It was just an all around great experience! Highly recommend to families of all ages!
The SNARS Ham Radio club of Reno put on a full day presentation and hands on interactive exhibit at Reno’s Discovery Museum 6/15/2019. The staff at the museum and Volunteer Coordinator Adam Carpenter specifically went above and beyond helping make the event a huge success. Everyone who was helping was impressed with the staffs professionalism and assistance.
It was well worth the visit! I went with a small group of coworkers, were all over 25, and we had a blast. They have activities and displays for all ages. Will definitely be going again.
I discovered that its cheaper to keep on walking to the donut shop next door. Yep your right... Im phat(pretty, hot and tempting) and cheap. Just purchase the membership and start again tomorrow.
As recent transplants to Reno we had the pleasure of coming here for a birthday party for our friends son. Wow. We had a blast and our kids loved it as well! Will definitely be looking into an annual membership!
Went for the face your fears event. Good price and effort by the museum team. Pretty good event for reno.
This was a fun, interactive and educational activity, even for us adults! The Mind Bender Mansion exhibit was great fun! The staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was well maintained and had clean bathrooms. Many families with children of all ages were having a wonderful time, including ours!
I took my 10 and 11 year old and we played all day. We built building and knocked them down on an earthquake simulator. In mindbender mansion we solved puzzles and had to use teamwork. Theres so many fun educational activities for ppl of all ages. Great family fun.
This place is a fantastic place to bring your kids to, be they son, daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc. I enjoyed it more than some of the kids museum in Chicago I have visited, where I live. It has tons of interactive areas for you and yours to visit. I had as much fun if not more then my 5yr old Nephew. My sister and I did the challenges in the Mindbender Mansion and was impressed by how smart these kids were, I spent 15 mins. trying to figure how to put two different shaped wood blocks together in the shape of a pyramid when a young man about 6 came and put it in the right configuration in about 1 min. It is also very inexpensive to gain admission. Unfortunately I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures----oh well, next time because we will be going back.
Love this place so much to do for all ages!! Been taken my kids here for years and as the get older they still enjoy it and find it challenging!! Great job Discovery!!
Super fun. It has lots of good activities for kids of all ages. The only trick for me is trying to keep two two year olds together! They would love to run in different directions.
Amazing place! Well worth the price. So much to do and learn. Will keeps kids and adults occupied for hours. My 4yo loved it. Very educational and fun for kids of all ages.
They have great events for kids here and the price is really good. Its only 5$ if you go on a Wednesday. The store inside has really unique stuff which I have never seen anywhere else. My little one likes all the water stuff and the climbing, but there is plenty of stuff for all ages. Every exhibit is informative and gives kids a chance to experiment with various principles and ideas, like how putting out fires in a big city works, how irrigation works, and how synapses form. The staff is amazing and helpful, and so polite. Love having this nearby :)
This is a great science museum. Lots of hands on learning. My kids loved the shop project and the robotics.
Sons school field trip. I love this place.
Loved everything about this for my little one. So many things to explore and learn. Definitely considering a membership.
Very interesting place, lots to do and lots to learn. It would have been nice to have more staff around to explain some of the exibits.
We enjoyed visiting this museum. We reached there around 4pm. The girl at the reception welcomed us and told us that they are close in an hour. We were two and were hesitant to purchase the tickets but receptionist girl offered us to pay for one ticket only. Overall this place is for kids. They have many science labs, activities & games for kids. I recommend this place for kids but if you are an adult there is not much for you, until you like playing some science games.
So many amazing activities my kids didnt want to leave. The only suggestion I have is BRING MASSIVE HAND SANITIZER!! Ive yet to see anyone cleaning throughout the day and every time my kids have come down with some weird illness within the days following our visits
Always have a good time and learn something new. Could work on having better line control when it is cold and every is trying to get inside.
Was fun for my 2 1/2 year old. She loved it. However the dinosaur bones are moved every 2 years and as of today Oct 2019 they currently do not have any. She had a lot of fun with all the other exhibits though.
AARP invited us to a briefing on their benefits but we promptly discovered it was a democratic caucus & we were the only Republicans in the room. The Discovery Museum was a free benefit. We were repulsed by the low intelligence of the others attending that we left before the lunch. Will pay to visit The Discovery Museum
Great place for kids for to learn and have fun! Adults can learn some things too, but I believe it is mostly focused towards kids. We spent over 3 1/2 hours here. I think some vending machines or some type of food access would be a good addition to this place, especially with the fact that we were there for so long and still only made it through maybe 2/3 of building. The only issue I had was there should be an age limit in the tool/diy room. Especially when using hot glue guns. I burnt myself as an adult, so I dont exactly think its great for younger children to be around.
Great place to let kids explore, interact and let out some energy. Exhibits are interesting and even the adults will learn something!
Awesome place! Google search results show people spend an average of 2.5 hrs here. I would recommend setting aside an entire day. Theres just so much to do and see!
Small compared to similar museums weve attended in other cities, but each exhibit is engaging and its easy to spend a couple of hours here. My 6 yo loves it and brings it up constantly. Shes a big fan of the two-story climbing feature.
A Lot of fun at this interactive and hands on Museum. Although billed as a childrens museum my new husband and I really enjoyed exploring there while on our honeymoon. We also learned a lot about The State of Nevada.
This is a really nice science museum. It has a lot of interactive exhibits that are fun for children and adults.
Great experience for kids. Our 18 mo was tired after 2 hrs. Wed evening admission was perfect for us.
My daughter loved this place! What a fun place for kids to spend and afternoon and learn. Adults can learn a lot here too!
My son enjoyed the water area on the bottom floor and also the camping ground. Definitely would come back here again when were in Reno.Suggestions would be:Clean each exhibit/area more oftenProvide more hand sanitizer stationsMaybe add a small cafe near the entrance for a quick bite to prevent the hassle of leaving the building esp when the kids arent done playing yet.Add more toddler friendly games to explore.Next door also has yummy donuts...sweet treat for the little kids.
Such an awesome place! My child can play for hours!
Did you know that they have a reduced price on certain Saturdays when you have a Bank of America account? Me neither! My kid had a blast, I was ready to get away from all the excitement, thankfully they close at 5!
I love how hands on everything is. Its the coolest for little ones who want to touch everything already.
I love bringing my grandchildren here, its full of fun and a great learning place.
Amazing. Not as great as COSI in Columbus, OH. But way better than Sacramentos science center. The cloud jungle gym is great and theres so much for kids to explore and build with. I would drive to Reno just for this.
Fantastic! Just barely got started by the time it was time to leave. Were going to be back soon!
Great place for the kiddos to learn and have fun. I especially love how sweet all the staff is and how they have posters stating they accept everyone
You know Ive been to the Getty museum many times, I dont remember much as I was in elementary school but there is this undeniable feeling of wonder and adventure. I went with my son and his school, it definitely is a fun place to experience.
A little pricey for a 1 year old and a 4 year old but they love it. Would recommend if you have hours to spend there.
My kids love this place.been coming here since the first day it opened and so many upgrades to the buildings we love.
We had such a great time, family fun for everyone from ages 1-adultVery cleanFair pricesHours of funKept us dry and warm and entertained till closing time
The kids loved it and we will be trying the $5 after 5p on Weds. the kids wanted to come back. Great place for all kids and adults can learn something new too. Great place to engage with your kids.
Kids loved it but sadly some exhibits were broken most staff were friendly and helpful . Only one of the bunch kind of kept to themselves and wasnt very verbal to guests to let them know what the room was about and what could be done in it. Watched a child ask a few questions and they were kind of shut down . But other then that we had a great family outing
Excellent and always changing! We learn new things every time we go.
My children and I loves it here. I often find myself enjoying the many things and rooms throughout the museum more than my son lol. We purchased the annual pass, which is very reasonable. Also the donuts next door makes the trip even better.
I love this place and so do my grandkids. The science demonstrations are well done and entertaining. This is a great place to learn and let children interact with science.
First time being there had a lot of fun with my nieces and nephews and my son and sister in law. It reminds me of a museum I went to as a kid when I lived in Arizona. Great places to take kids for safe fun and learning
Had so much fun. To whom ever found my phone and promptly turned it in, your are amazing and appreciated.
Free parking and lots of exhibits and hands on play and learning. Our whole family from little kids to teenagers to adults found lots to do and had a wonderful time. Highly recommended.
Gem in the middle of Reno! This place saved us when we had a toddler to entertain before a flight. Definitely worth it and our kid keeps asking to go back...too bad we live far!!
First time here and it was so much fun!! I was expecting something a little different, with more hands-on experiments, but what they have is still great. The Da Vinci room was interesting. And my group worked together to get the Balloon Game accomplished. Great way to spend an afternoon!
Great for kids, so much activities for different ages you can spend hours here, live music band was playing! There are 2 levels multiple rooms, only wish there were more guided activities!
My kids live it here. Weve done birthday parties here. And they give a pass to those who had the parties that gets them in free to the museum for the upcoming season. Fabulous staff and Always clean.
Great place to visit. Absolutely great to visit many times. many fun activities for kids and adults of all ages. Kid -friendly place with many activities and crafts to do. Very modern place with very clean facilities. Lots of knowledge about the surrounding area and greatly entertaining thoughtful puzzles to explore.
Awesome place to take the kids!
My daughter and her two weeks ones go once a week and we always have fun! My 2 1/2 ur old granddaughter is never boredand we always stay at least 2 hours! We have a family membership and alwYs look forward to taking the kids!
Very educational for young and older people. Lots of interactive displays
Had lots of fun, cant wait to go back and explore more with the kids!
Beautifully done childrens museum. Tons of fun hands on activities for all ages to include adults. The place was clean and not to expensive as well. They provide limited free parking on site.
What a unique experience! Loved face your fears!
This place is so cool I like the wood room where you can build a bird house a small doll house if you have the time.
We go almost every week and the kids never get board, we actually spend more time there every week. This place is amazing and they keep changing the activities, which keeps it fresh. The yearly membership is the best deal around when you have small children and need things to do in the winter.
Great place for children. All kinds of hands on activities.
Good for 5th grade and below. Good mind control games. Free admission for locals with library card online pass.
My family and I love visiting here. There is a lot of interactive things to do for children of all ages.
This is a great childrens museum. They are constantly bringing in new exhibits and always have new activities for the kids
This museum is so great for all ages of kids. The employees are also nice and helpful. Theres a great store to buy all kinds of fun toys and learning gifts.
I thought it was only for kids and just wanted them to have fun. I ended up having more fun than them.
So much to see. I got lost. Very fun and intriguing
Really worth it. My kids enjoyed here in between ski lessons.
Great place for a wide variety of ages! We spent 5 hours there with our kids (6, 8, 10) and only had enough time for half of the exhibits!
Fun place for kids to interact. I recommend for the kids.
We love taking the kids here, there are so many new and wonderful activities every time we go. It is a great place to Their Minds with great new experiences
I used to come here a lot more frequently when my children were younger. I especially love the that kids can touch and experience the museum on their level.WIsh Reno/Sparks had more places and opportunities for more family-friendly hands-on activities. This venue has so many wonderful exhibits both permanent and featured opportunities available. The staff is super warm, friendly and informative. It would be really nice if there were more age-appropriate places for those in our community who were from 14 - 20 (in age) as there are limited activities for that group in our area. This venue can be rented out for special events or birthday parties. The museum has their own special events which include Trick or Treating and other such activities. Check out their calendar. Check out their availability for groups, family nights or even plan a field trip.Wednesdays is $5.00 admission after 4:00 pm.. The museum offers volunteer opportunities for adults as well as teens be sure to look at their website for more information. What a great asset to our community.
A fun and safe place for the whole family to enjoy. Have been going since they first opened. Lots of hands on activities for children of all ages.
Great place to take the kids. Plenty to do, see and learn
If your little one isnt walking, dont bother. Even the 5 and under room isnt really for any Littles under 2yo. Definitely not worth $22 for us not to be able to interact with anything.
The Discovery has great interactive activities for kids of all ages. My 2 year old played for 2 hours and still didnt want to leave. The water exhibit was both educational and fun. I would recommend bringing a spare set of clothes for the littles who splash more in the water.
Great, wish I was younger. Those brain busting puzzles and challenges are super enjoyable Boy, do I have a huge headache now. But they are good, even though the place is really geared towards young kids, any adult with interest in brain challeges would have a great time.
Such an awesome place, took my kids here and learned a lot myself ^_^
Love this museum and my grandkids (ages 3 to 10) all had a ball. We spent over 4 hours and they could have stayed longer. Bring lunch and you dont have to leave!
Kids had a blast and there is a lot of great learning information.
I know this place runs on donations, but it looks like its starting to get run down. However they come up with new exhibits every year, but a membership is hard to justify when its the same stuff all year long. I did a membership when my kids were under 5 years old and it was fun for them, because of the climbing attractions. Now with them being older, they get bored with it.
