Amazing! Extravagant! I cant imagine how long this took to make but I give great appreciation to all ! Hardly anyone was there, my boys 3 and 5 had a blast looking at everything. Parking was super easy to find and get. Peacocks everywhere ! Great site to see. I will definitely go back ! Adult admission is $6 kids under 5 are free ! You put money in the locked boxes. Bring mask if you want to go Inside one of the buildings!
This is an amazing piece of history and art. I loved getting to see it, but it was very run down. There was trash and old campers surrounding the park and tall grass and weeds growing around the sculptures. Some people I went with said the park didnt used to be that way. Im not sure if it was just the wrong time of year or something, but it seems like the park is not well taken care of anymore.
It’s a bit run down but still has some cool rock art to look at. I remember coming here over 30 years ago as a kid and it holds a bit of nostalgia for me. I took my kids here and they liked it but it’s sad for me to see it in disrepair. Admission was $6 for adults and $3 for children. We noticed several of the small houses on the rock features seem to active have wasp nests. So I would advise keeping an eye out for lots of wasp activity. Also, there was a dead peacock chick on one of the features near the parking lot. Looks like it’s been there a while. If this were taken care of a little better, it would be worth the admission but as it is, I can’t see ever coming back.
My mom used to go there when she was a little girl and it was stunning and jaw dropping. I can definitely appreciate all of the hard work that went in to designing and building all of the amazing rock structures. I would have loved to meet the man who did that. He obviously took a lot of pride in creating this paradise. Its sad to see how over grown and messy everything is. Dead baby peacock was not the highlight.
What a lot of beautiful artistic work to let fall apart. Amazing work. Falling apart and missing sections with open electrical sockets.
Historic site. A bit rundown, but Susan does her best to keep this place open and she deserves our support!
I love this place, it so pretty!like’s a garden of dream, that dog’s so cute
Just took the kids and it was such a neat place to explore! We really love rocks so maybe that’s why we loved it but I think it’s definitely worth going and checking it out. We loved the peacocks and the little museum/ rock store! Administration and prices were totally worth it.
Its still impressive after all these years! Its a bit overgrown in places, but the rock sculptures are still cool and fun to explore. The peacocks are just as vocal as ever, and there were five baby peacocks following the peahens. After 20+ years, I still enjoyed it
There is a huge potential for a gorgeous event site. The amount of work that was put into this site originally was amazing. It is currently being destroyed by neglect. The historical society should help to get it back to its original experience.
Oh My Goodness, thats the wording for this place, so much time and effort went into building these rock gardens, we went last night and WOW...ITS AN AMAZING PLACE TO VISIT, A MUST DO...We are going to be going back and taking our grandchildren, the Museum closes at 5pm my husband and I didnt get there til around 7:30pm so we paid to go in and take pictures as we came around to the Museum the owners were inside and as we were walking by he came out and asked of we were just going to stand there or come in...lol...so we were surprised and we went in, got a Geode rock, an Amethyst, and a purple slice of a Thunder Egg Rock...A MUST DO IN REDMOND, OREGON...The owners are super friendly and all the Castles, Bridges, houses, Statue Of Liberty, ect...the Peacocks, and other animals they have are beautiful, we are definitely going back to the PETERSON ROCK GARDENS AND MUSEUM...THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND INFORMATIVE INFORMATION ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT ROCKS, SEE YOU ALL ON OUR NEXT JOURNEY...
This is a memory place for us...came here before we had kids then after and now grandkids. It has been let go, and the earth will reclaim. We still enjoyed it but it deserves to be maintained and repaired. The work and artistry ought to be honored.
Sadly, this historic place is in much need of maintenance and repair. This was a place my family visited when my siblings and I were very young, about 50 years ago. It still holds charm and great nostalgia for my sisters and I. The years of work put into this landmark is truly amazing. I would highly recommend visiting and encouraging volunteer groups to assist in a much needed, and worth while, restoration project.
If you are fascinated by rocks than this is the place for you to visit. Beautiful and peaceful.
Neat place, so much work and creativity went into building and collecting. Unfortunately the maintenance has not been kept up.
One of those weird things that is worth 6 bucks and 30 minutes to check out. Old school roadside attraction feel. Theres a welcomed strangeness to its forgotten beauty.
A real Oregon treasure. No matter where you live in Oregon, support this phenomenon by visiting. Bring a picnic.
Really cool. A great stop
This place is interesting. Its clearly seen better days and you can imagine what it was like in its glory days. It takes a large amount of maintenance but thats clearly not being done anymore. When I visited the museum was marked as open but the door was locked. I just walked around and imagined what it was like 40 years ago. Its worth visiting but its also odd. Go and youll see what I mean.
Beautiful rock garden! Great place for kids. They especially enjoyed feeding the peacocks! There were quite a few of them!
My family and I love going to the Peterson Rock garden, alot of beautiful rocks, an awesome trail to walk around. And even a museum!!
You could tell that there was a lot of love put into this at one point. Unfortunately, the upkeep leaves much to be desired. I still enjoyed visiting it with my grandma, but she was really sad about how downhill it has gone since its heyday. Hopefully, someone will fall in love with this location and return it to its original glory.
The place is run down, but its still neat. Friendly animals roam the grounds. The owner doesnt care to keep the place clean though, lots of junk and broken down cars. The museum is cluttered, dirty and smelled awful.
If you like this kind of thing its interesting to a point.
Cool place for a family. Dont let your kids go nuts and chase the peacocks, though. Nice attraction. Friendly folk. Get a bag of meal and watch as youre swarmed by chickens and peacocks. Pick up a peacock feather and play with the friendly cat. Good place for a mellow family stroll. Everything about the experience earned its 5 stars. I may never return, but I might, either way, my first impression was, obviously, a good one.
A little bit in disrepair. Recommend paying the admission fee. Really cool geology!!!
Wow amazing works of art! A lifes work of something you truly love.
Beautiful and interesting place. The owner Susan is super nice.
Nice rock creations, but the place isnt really being taken care of. It was built before 1940, because thats when the creator passed away.
In 1972 my family visited Petersen rock garden and took pictures of me and my brothers. In 1994 my husband and I brought our kids here and took their picture in front of the same sculpture. In 2021 we will be bringing 4 of our grandkids here to take their pictures in the same places. Fingers crossed!
Its not what it used to be. Its run down and messy, and there are huge chunks of things that fell off and havent been fixed. There are yellow Do Not Cross tapes on many of the walkways and displays and the signs all says Keep Off. The rock shop door has a sign that says Use Other Door(s) but everything was locked up tight. The peacocks are pretty but the black cat mascot needs some serious veterinarian attention and a flea bath. The rocks are all incredible, if you know what youre looking at. Other than that, its a tragedy.
An attraction from the 1960s
A rock lovers dream. This was one of my favorite places to visit as a child and I was delighted to take my own children.
Its in utter despair, but I have been going here on and off for 48 years, and I love it.
Really neat place. Could use a little TLC. Its getting a little old. Go see it before its gone. I really loved it as a child. The peacocks are cool.
This place is a rock hounds dream. There are tons of structures built out of different rocks all over the property. The museum has alot of neat stuff in it too, including a black light room that shows some rocks lit up in a neat little display.
$6 adults seems too much. We just did a drive thru.
A stroll down memory lane for me!
Wonderful history stones are amazing
Place has really gone into disarray over the years. Its amazing but sad to see the decline. The people on hand tried to make our experience better. The museum and rock shop was closed but they opened it for us. Seemed knowledgeable. Thank u
Very interesting place. A must see. The exhibits are deteriorating.
A little run down due to owners declining health but well worth the drive. The new help is super friendly and enthusiastic. They are working on making the Garden beautiful again. They even opened up the museum after they were closed just so we could get a rock. There is a lot of peacocks!
Came here when I was young. Still as magical as I remembered. Need to come back when the snow melts.
Its a cute little place to visit. The kids enjoyed the animals.
Very impressive to see how this place has lasted over the years. The peacocks alone are worth the visit!
The placement and people are amazing. It is gorgeous
Amazing wonder of Oregon! So creative. Ran by honesty system. So please do your part. Just short drive from hwy 97. So worth the the time to just stop for a moment have lunch and look at all the rocks and stones that this artist created! So in awe of this beauty!
Love this place!!! I enjoy the quiet desolation and insane rock sculptures. Definitely an unusual find that is absolutely worth seeing. Did I mention they have peacocks?
Great place! Definitely worth$6. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the grounds. Also look thru museum. Fun hour!!
So disappointing to see 1 mans dream, to not be maintained & fallen into disrepair
Small buildings and monuments from a variety of rock types made carefully and detail.
Wow quite the labor intensive creativity. Good picnic place. Enjoy
A little ran down but still fun and lots to look at. Kids got a kick out of the peacocks.
This Rock Garden is beautiful and the staff is always friendly! Our family loves to come visit during the summer. The Peacocks and other birds are so beautiful and there are so many cool things to see!
I like the buildings made with rocks and the peacocks
Very interesting. Looking for something quick and photo worthy, this is the place. Quiet, very attractive landscape and artistically designed. The curious and easily entertained will love it. It is $6 for admission, however I understand the need to be able to maintain the grounds and wildlife, so this is not to much to ask for. Beautiful peacocks!
If you like rocks, this is the place for you. You can look through the thunder eggs they have already dug up or you can dig up youre own. Its a must see place!
Weird and cool garden of creations using rock, glass and other recycled materials. Peacocks and other birds everywhere. Worth keeping alive with the suggested donation. Just wish the out buildings had been open to explore. We will be back
This was an amazing place for us to go, we went back almost every year in the summer. I am really sad it it closed and I cannot take my children there myself!
Beautiful place though Im sure it was magical when first completed. The work finding and placing all the beautiful sparkly rocks is amazing if you think about it. Husband remembered being taken, as an 8 year old child and took me in 2001 on our honeymoon. He is gone but left me with this memory among many.
Went at the end of summer. Things are getting pretty run down and it is not taken care of. There was a lady there watching and she looked like she wanted you to get off her lawn. The rock sculptures were magnificent at one point and you can still get a sense of that. We only spent about 10 minutes as we did feel like we werent wanted there. If that is the case they should close it down. Wish someone who cared about these sculptures would purchase the place and restore them.
I used to love going here as a kid! I stopped by the other day to see if it was still around and it is! Please go here and support a fun place. Its not as clean as it once was though.
Pretty sad looking after the remodel still was nice for nostalgic reasons
If you like rocks & all things unique & eclectic... Youll love this place! First of all, its free... Not really, however... only because we arrived there later in the day & we were the only ones there at that time (didnt even see any caretakers, owners, no one.. ? ) ... & the museum was closed so we didnt get to check that out, but since we were already there & it was my 1st time there, we did explore everything else outside & had a blast!... Its so peaceful as you walk around taking in all the incredibly unique rock structures, & most of them you can climb around on & explore.. At least, we did anyway.. I can only imagine the amount of time & dedication it must have took to bring their passion to life .. to take such a grandiose idea and make it a reality for everyone to enjoy.. from what i understand, its only a shadow of itsglory days but with that said, its still pretty cool & we enjoyed our offbeat adventure very much & spent several hours exploring every nook & cranny while letting our imaginations run wild like little kids do (every once in awhile you gotta let that inner child loose to play!!!) & as youre taking pics of everything, dont forget to take pics of the majestic peacocks that freely roam around the grounds... They do put on quite the display! They are magnificent to say the least! I dont know which was my favorite... The rock structures or the Peacocks!
My family had a great time at the rock garden. There were peacocks, chickens and cats roaming around. For $1 you can buy a bag of food to feed the birds. The museum is very cool and has a glow room with glowing rocks and other neat things. There are some areas that are damaged but this place is very old! What an amazing place and so inspiring!
Well worth going! I ha e went since I was a kid. Now I have taken my grandkids. You wont regret going. It only takes a donation to get in
So much fun. Amazing little place Id never heard of. Want to go back and take the kiddos!
Worth the 15 minute off the highway to visit. The Garden itself is a beautiful display of time and passion. Peacocks roam freely, baby chicks were adorable and farm cats are super friendly. Took the kids and could have stayed hours if it wasnt so hot that day.
Completely unique. Somewhat in a state of shabbiness but nonetheless very special. See the Wikipedia. The peacocks alone are worth the visit.
Have come here since I was a kid. And continue to bring my kids back.
Really cool but not open when we were there so we took a few pictures and left not gone back but it looks really cool what we can see from our car
A joke. Just a pile of junk. If you drive in (not worth the drive), you already see it all, so no use in paying the ridiculous $6 fee.
Much more than we expected! They have an amazing variety of rock.
Pretty cool place can only imagine how it looked years ago.
Still a neat place but could use a little sprucing up.
An absolute must stop. Amazing rocks and wow factor. My husband (35), son (12 yr) boy, nephew (9) mother (62) aunt (58) and myself all really enjoyed it. Black light room inside museum is intriguing. Very reasonable cost. Draw bridges were amazing. If you are in the area definitely go have a look!
The variety of agates, petrified wood, and obsidian, that the structures are made from is Incredible!
Beautiful displays, love rocks - needs some love but truly a good place
Interesting, but really needs some TLC. Too bad the family doesnt take better care of this treasure.
Visited the Peterson Rock Garden yesterday. Yes, they are open. Its obvious the family has been working hard to bring this back for our pleasure. Support them! Peacocks were fun to watch in all their splendor. And the rock exhibits are quite a master piece that stands the test of time. And be sure to honor the honor admission to help them maintain this treasure.
It was interesting, I discovered it from an old time photo that was made into a wall picture at WorldMark Eagle Crest resort in Redmond Oregon. Not much information as to who built it and or why.
Broken and in disrepair. Waterfalls no longer work shops are closed, a black cat was our guide. This place used to be so pretty.
Great place to spend an afternoon. Beautiful rock sculptures. Great photo opportunities.
Was fun,This Little Lady Loved my Great Grandson
Its beautiful! A fun thing to get me and my mom out of the car for a bit during a long drive, everything was so pretty and peaceful (except for the occasional peacock screech! Haha) and it was a really fun place to look around! Aside from the beautiful sculptures I loved all the animals as well! All the birds had lots to say and there was a very friendly cat in the museum that I absolutely adored! Overall I had a really nice time !
Liked walking around, there were lots of peacocks wondering. We missed the museum part it was closed, there was a lot of neat stuff to see. We did feel a bit strange walking around in someones yard.
It was... okay. A dried up cement sealer bucket was left out for probably a few days or weeks. The museum lacks organization and presentation. The best part was probably the peacocks, but there isnt anyone there to protect them from aggressive and impolite children. It has the potential to be very nice, but the required effort just doesnt seem to be there. I wouldnt go again and I would seriously rethink donating $6 to get in.
This place is absolutely stunning. From when I was a kid to today, its been lacking in the caretaking area, but I heard volunteers are going to start helping soon!! The structures are breathtaking, as always, the peacocks are still vocal and well maintained, the gift shop has history on every wall, and the space is still open and absolutely stunning in the summer and fall. Please dont let a little neglect keep you from visiting, its gogoi to improve with every visitor!!!
If you like rocks this place will blow your mind!
Amazing and unique collection. A must see!
A hidden gem. Great sculptures and surprising wildlife.
Quite Interesting
Very nice outdoor area, I have definitely noticed that this attraction is in need of upkeep. Seems like it has definitely gone down hill from my last trip here maybe 15 years ago.
This place was fantastic, a little run down and could use some love. It was nice to just walk around and see all the cool sculptures. If I could do it again I would have lunch there, they had a nice picnic area.
Awesome rock scupltures and the peacocks were amazing to look at
This place is absolutely AMAZING! I would recommend this to ALL my friends and family, well worth the drive there!
Beautiful rocks. Wonderful little recreation of buildings out of rocks. Employees were very friendly and knowledgeable!
Definitely in disarray but still worth the visit to see the statues and peacocks.
