Review №1

Booked a whitetail rifle hunt for a group of 4. Because of covid last minute 2 of the members of our group were forced to stay home. Once myself and another member of our group reached Chadron we met with Dan and our guide at a gas station. This would be the last time I saw Dan during the 4 day hunt. Dan asked us to sign a waiver and at that time stated that online it says they would like us to shoot a buck wider than the ears with 4 points on one side but they dont really care and we can shoot whatever makes us happy. This was the first red flag that Double D didnt care about management or the quality of bucks they provide oppounities on.During my first sit I personally did shoot a nice 140 buck but unfortunately that is where the good experience stopped. I found out the next day from another hunter in camp that after I left camp for the night the guides spent over a half hour taking pictures with my buck to try to make it look bigger for the website. Apparently the pictures with me in them werent good enough for Dan. The issues piled on after this.We were told we would get 3 meals a day. We not once received breakfast or lunch. We had to ask to be reimbursed for dinners because our guide didnt make a meal ready for us or take us out. Also luckily we were put in a hotel for our stay. The rest of the guys in camp were staying in a wide open double wide with 5 or 6 bunk beds. No privacy in the sleeping quarters whatsoever and guys from a couple different groups were all mixed together. You would think this wouldnt be the case especially during the pandemic. Also every morning when we showed up ready to hunt at the time we were told to be there we had to wait atleast a half hour or more while the guides were getting out of bed, making themselves breakfast, and getting dressed! What a joke. Now for the biggest issue I had with the hunt. Going into the hunt we were told that Dan had 50k+ acres of great hunting ground. After my hunting partner hunted in the same spot for 2 solid days basically in a wide open pasture and didnt see anything remotely close to what would be considered a shooter we asked if he could hunt another location. We were told not really because all the other spots had guys hunting them. Finally after over half of the guys in camp went home early empty handed the guides offered to bring my hunting partner to a new spot. I will say the spot he was moved to was much better and held many more deer. Unfortunately it had been hit pretty hard and was washed up by now. My guide told us they had taken close to 15 deer out of that general area in the last week. Unfortunately all of the deer they were taking out were also sub 120 deer so you can write that spot off for next year too. After leaving camp and heading home I was super happy with the buck I killed but looked back at many things I believe this outfitter is doing wrong. We as a group were really hoping to book a repeat trip to come back next year but after seeing the operation not a chance we would return. There are many other outfitters out there that truly care about your experience and their land management. Double D does not. After all of this I was going to leave it be and call it a learning experience. Unfortunately when one of the guys in our group asked Dan if he could please have his deposit back since he couldnt make the trip due to covid and after hearing our story when we returned home he didnt want to roll the deposit into next year. My thought was that Dan would do the right thing and refund the money. Since Dan has said he wont do the right thing I decided I had to do the right thing and leave this review. If you are looking at this outfitter for a future hunt I would highly recommend moving on with your search and save yourself some disappointment.
