The home and library are beautiful! The furnishings actually belonged to the Adams family. The upholstery looks to be in excellent condition ... they obviously did not have a cat (lol). I wish there was an extended tour where one can actually make thorough observations and hear more information and personal stories about the people who lived there. The tour guide was excellent. I would give her an A+.
The park Rangers provided detail information about the families, the farm and their role in the early days of the US. Admission cost is $15 and includes a guided tour of all four properties. If you have a US Park pass, admission is free. Children are always free.Youngsters can participate in the junior ranger program. There is a modest gift shop with books about John and Abigail. An interesting aside is the role JohnQuincy Adams played in the Amistad court case. There are other Adams related places in the town of Quincy that are not part of the tour including their burial sites. Validated parking is available . May not be suitable for young children.
The Old House at Peacefield was a home that John and Abigail Adams bought after their time in Europe. After living in huge, extravagant homes in Europe they knew they couldn’t live in their small homes in Quincy. This is the home where our second president, John Adams, died on July 4, 1826. It was exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, died on that same day, miles away in Monticello, Virginia.
Beautiful gardens and facilities both for guided and not. Covid 19 prevents touring the house and library.Parking and wheelchair accessibility are tough.
This place is awesome! Weve never been in the house due to Covid, but we love to come enjoy the park-like garden and orchard.
Second stop on the tour that departs from the Adams National Historic Park. This segment lasts about an hour. Our guide offered a lot of details and information without becoming boring. A lot of fun facts.
Loved the historical tour. This is where John and Abagail came to retire. Had to add on because the original house wasnt big enough after the 30 room house in Paris!
I cant say enough great things about the Adams tour!!! Its worth the New England trip just for this tour! Bravo Bravo!!! So much incredible uninterrupted history!
We took the trolley tour of the Adams homesteads and the church. It was very informative run by the trustees who know the histories of the whole family. It was not hard to get to and they validate your parking in the garage so not to expensive to get a history lesson on a past president and his family.
Love the European inspired garden.
Even if John Quincy Adams was not one of my cousins, I still would have enjoyed this just as much - youre stepping into history! Its amazing to see all the things that are preserved from that time period, still there! Even a dress from the late 1700s is preserved, a dress that appears in one of the portraits hanging on the wall! Word to the wise - you likely cannot park in front, you will need to go to the visitors center about half a mile away and get parking in the parking garage and get your ticket at the visitor center. Totally worth that hassle though!
The house and grounds well preserved and full of Adams artifacts and memorabilia. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly.
A delight to get a pic wiith The President last July 4th at his home.
Awesome stop. The parking situation is a little odd but makes sense once you know where to go. The two birth places are worth seeing but the peacefield house is the star of the show for sure. The tour guide Jane was probably the best guide I have ever had at a historic site. Super friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable (not to mention beautiful). As a great admirer of John Adams I was thrilled with this stop. I would also mention that hopping across the street from the visitor center to see the Adams crypt is also very much worth the time.
I love John Adams, I wish I had the privilege of meeting him and his family in person .
Our rangers were exceptionally knowledgeable about the park. They could answer each question without aid which was very reassuring of their passion for the park service. This location is only viewable by taking a tour. You are robbing yourself of a learning experience by not doing the tour.
Very nice place to see historical stuffs but its very strict facilities.
This was once the home of the two Adams presidents, and is especially worth a visit for its historical significance. You can only visit via a guided tour and that tour starts at the Visitors Center in downtown Quincy, near the train station. There is a trolley from the Visitors Center that takes you here and to the birthplace of the two Presidents, which is in another part of town. The entire tour lasts at least two hours. Be sure you have that much time if youre planning a visit. There are no restrooms here, so be sure to use the restrooms at the Visitors Center before starting the tour. They only offer the tours in the summer and fall. The main house is not air-conditioned so it can be uncomfortable in there in the summer, but the Stone Library is.
This was the last stop on the tour and is part of the Adams National Historical Park and a cant miss visit to Boston.
Fantastic tour albeit 2-3 hours long.
The tour guides are incredibly polite, welcoming and knowledgable on what is in the tour. I really enjoyed it! Parking is difficult though, so talk to their visitor center to figure out what you need to do.
Now that you can take pictures inside... 5 stars!
Our Founding Father :)
Love this place
Interesting history. Lots of historical artifacts. The Stone Library is impressive & garden is beautiful. Tour guides are very knowledgeable.
Very nice gardens.
Its always beneficial to learn more about our countrys history, and the u s. Parks service has dine an excellent job of preserving this home and sharing its history with visitors.
Outstanding historical tour. Recommended to any & all U.S. history buffs, as well as to anyone who desires more background on our Founding Fathers (and their noteworthy wives!).At least one of our guides—a uniformed U.S. National Parks Ranger—held a PhD in history, specifically on John Adams, so he was extremely knowledgeable. Every last ranger we interacted with was the consummate professional. What a thrill (and privilege) it was to walk thru the four buildings on the tour—three Adams family homes plus their freestanding family library—in the footsteps and most intimate spaces of two of our earliest presidents and their families. Educational too: inspired me to start watching the HBO miniseries “John Adams” for even more learning.
Wonderful piece of American history. Birthplace of 2 presidents, and gorgeous gardens. Worth the trip to Quinsey.
Mega awesome!!! XD Chris was doggone amazing and informative and it was a very enlightening experience. Would recommend to any person who enjoys history!
Beautiful place to visit. Lots of history learned. The guides are well informed and its totally worth the 20$ or under the trip costs. There are no bathrooms or water fountains on the tour but theres a bathroom where you buy the tickets and a water fountain. Highly recommend it.
A very nice visit to try if youre in Quincy. Very well explained, well done and lively.
Ranger Rick (no joke) was an awesome tour guide! We had a wonderful visit.
You will not find a deeper experience of the personal space of a great American family, founders of our country. Our park ranger guide had extensive knowledge and made this visit something that will linger in memory.
I visited the garden recently and sat in the yard. Beautiful flowers, and the employees are friendly.
Excellent tour guides by informative Federal Rangers. A historical sight that is a must see.
A historic place from the revolutionary war days. Still with original artifacts.
Well worth a visit, knowledgeable guides. 3 houses and a private library on the site at Peacefield.
Beautiful tour! Well worth the time
Beautiful home and grounds. Learn some history about our 2nd President.
As part of the National Park system, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about American history. Terrific tour and get knowledgeable park rangers. Plan on 3 hours and dont miss it!
Wonderful piece of History
The Rangers do am amazing job narrating the tour!
Great tour from the park rangers...highly recommend!
We were visiting from California. I had just finished John Adams biography by David McCullough so this was a natural stop for us. Before I elaborate, some pointers:**Parking in the garage is free (via validation) to National Park visitors.**Visiting the homes requires taking a tour. Reservations are made at the visitors center.**The tour takes about 2.5 hours. We had a great time taking the tour. It includes Peacefield and the homes where John Adams and John Quincy Adams were born. As the newer and larger home, Peacefield was the highlight. Many of the furnishings are in place as are portraits of the Adams family. The home was given to the National Park Service by the Adams family. However, the family reserves the right of full control over its use. I am told that they even close the home occasionally for Adams family gatherings.Dont miss the stone house where Adams collection of books is housed. In addition to being a sight to behold, it is very cool inside during the summer months.
Really interesting and very friendly guides. Worthwhile trip to the glorious days of the United States.
Historic, interesting, and GREAT tour guides who are knowledgeable and fun
This place is amazing. When you are here you cant believe that you are in the middle of the urban sprawl of Quincy. The house, the library and the grounds are beautiful and alive with the Adams history. Sad that the rules state that you cant take pictures inside. I have been here several times.
Great tour. Get ticket at Hancock St NPS. Free shuttle takes you to all 3 sites. If you love history, this is very satisfying. Bring camera! 1870 Library is to die for.
Was great for the kids to learn about our countries beginning...
Wander the gardens and visit the library of over 12,000 books owned by John Adams and John Quincy Adams on a sunny day this spring/summer. You will not regret getting in touch with the historical gravity of this site.
The library alone is worth a visit.
Wonderful tour and information about the Adams family.
Beautiful historic site with rich history
This is a great place to enjoy a summer picnic at a historical location in the middle of a bustling cityscape. Highly recommend it to all.
