Have regularly attended this venue for 20 years. Great shows. Sound and seating is always very good
WONDERFUL! I had never been before and was invited by a friend who couldnt use his tickets. For only $37 per ticket We saw a very well-produced show with a terrific set and we were in the best seats in the house! It was a very good experience. And if you really want to splurge make reservations to eat at Birch across the street!!!
If you enjoy theater and the art that is exemplified by the actors and actresses, then you should visit Trinity. Multiple theaters within the building, they are small which adds to the spirit and proximity to the stage. Sure, PPAC is opulent and the seating can’t be beat, but the size of the auditorium creates a space that seems a bit less personal when compared to Trinity. Definitely a must to patronize.
Their production of A Christmas Carol was one of the most innovative I have every seen! Well preformed by a cast solid from star to bit players. The performance included live music, several scenes with kids and a variety of stage effects. The staging was excellent making very good use of the features of the stage. A very enjoyable evening!
Awesome theater. They have 2 theaters at this location and they also do so many programs for kids interested in theater and production. YASI young actors summer institute is the name of one of the programs for the summer that my daughter is going to. The program directors Jordan and Tim are amazing very friendly and great with the kids.
A Christmas Carol was a must during my childhood and was able to return this year and what a great job trinity rep did as always. This years play may have been the best one yet, the cast was amazing and the directors take was so good. I highly recommend seeing a Christmas Carol it will now be a annual event for our family again. Also the staff is amazing and the building is great
2019s a Christmas Carol was hands down the best weve ever seen! (Been coming every year for the past 6 years to see it). The decor is always breathtaking, and its always clean and inviting inside. Parking garage located nearby for a price.
My wife and I attended A Christmas Carol on 12/12/19. First time at the Trinity. Having viewed the seating and stage arrangement online i was curious how the show would be due to what I considered a small stage. Weve seen this production many times at many venues and been both impressed and disappointed. I cant emphasize enough the outstanding performance we saw. The use of the entire house to support the story was ingenious and surprising. More important was the performance of the cast. It would be unfair to rate one above the other as each was great in their individual role. I will however compare Jude Sandys role as Scrooge to others weve seen. Hands down the absolute best. Go before its to late.
My girlfriend and I saw a play at Trinity Repertory Company. Great actors, phenomenal performance, and great seats. I would recommend this particular experience to anyone.
Want to see the Christmas carol and it was terrible ... (they changed to entire story to fit a political agenda )I agree with the other reviews on trip adviser . If you want to change a great work into this trash call it something else ! That way when people buy expensive tickets we know what we are going to see? Look AT the reviews on trip adviser under poor or one star .... they have been pushed to the back ( but they are there) and they are recent ! Just trying to save others from this mistake .
What is the matter with original plays staying original? My husband and I went to 4 Christmas Carol Shows and only 1 was a pleasure. We found smaller theater that werent afraid to portray the story as Dickens wrote it. They were secure in their ability to do it justice without having to change it. There is a reason it has lasted all these years because its a classic and nothing wrong with a classic.
Ive never been here before but I can tell you that Ill be back. There is not a bad seat in the house. Hope you get to enjoy your show.
Lovely theatre. Saw the Christmas Carol here. They have the best Christmas Carol I have ever seen. Im going again next year!
Started a new family tradition this year. Not a bad seat in the house. Everyone is so very friendly. Cant wait to go back next year
Cozy, intimate setting with professional productions. Neighborhood theater meets Broadway. Great place, great people who care about their community.
I went to see A Christmas Carol with a family member who suffers with disabilities. The show was great and the venue was interesting. There was an intermission during the show and not surprisingly there were lines for bathrooms and refreshments. Due to my family members fragility we had to be careful how we moved around amongst others; we ended up last in line at the refreshment counter. Intermission was ended abruptly without an adequate announcement to allow time for people to return to their seats. We were then informed by the manager that we could not return to our seats until she was given the all clear and that this would take about five minutes. It took ten minutes to get the all clear and during those 10 minutes we could not return to our seats, what we got was seats in the lobby in front of a small-screen, poor quality live feed of the stage. The manager seemed oblivious to our dissatisfaction or perhaps felt empowered by her power over us. She did not agree that there was a system problem that had created our problem. There should have been a warning that intermission was about to end before it ended, a warning that would have been as fair to mobility-impaired folks as other more able-bodied people but there wasnt. She offered no concession for our dissatisfaction but when pressured she did agree to provide vouchers for another show. Bear in mind that it took me three hours to pick up my family member and get there. She said she could not issue a partial refund. We did find each other after the show at which time she did state that after all there were no vouchers available but she did provide a business card for another manager and did also request our contact information which I did provide. She was pleasant by this point, probably relieved to be passing the buck to another manager. The root cause of the problem had not seemed to be under her direct control but as the manager on duty there were a couple of things she could have done better. Im hopeful that the theater as a whole will learn from this problem by taking a good look at their flawed intermission process and improving it to mitigate the risk of offending and discriminating against other people with disabilities.
There are no bad seats at Trinity! The Company is fantastic at everything they do!
Ive been a subscriber for almost forty years, and watched Trinity morph with the times. What a jewel we have here in Rhode Island! Ive seen actors come, and actors go... Some to make it on the small and big screens! Tony Awards winning productions, world premiers of new works and playwrights, old classics and new original productions - theyve done it all. Even when a play isnt my favorite - I treasure my nights out with the girls. We are blessed to have Trinity in our midst.
Really cool theatre company, much more affordable than PPAC but the quality is still there. The theatre itself is on the smaller side, which is kind of nice because every seat is a good seat. There’s a strong sense of community and it seems they have a lot of programs for young actors.
This years Christmas Carol was absolutely wonderful! My whole group loved it!
Fantastic place to see a play! Small intimate setting puts to close to the stage and actors!
Went to see the Christmas Carol, excellent performance, high energy show easy to follow. We had front row seats so it was special
Trinity Rep is a wonderful place to make family memories, we see the Christmas Carol every year.
Today, I drove 1.5 hours to see the worst production and worst theatre experience I have ever encountered. And I only stayed for Act I. This reinvented version of A Christmas Carol features disturbing scenes (especially for children) and modern interpretations of classic characters that do not coincide with the original tale and dont make historical sense. Fezziwig is a woman dressed as a man. Fan is also the Ghost of Christmas Past. Scrooges nephew is a niece who dresses like a boy. In Jacob Marleys seemingly endless death scene, the black veiled townspeople rip off his clothes and carry him out like hes Jesus on the cross. When Jacob returns as a ghost, hes half naked wearing a bad zombie wig and leggings. Dont waste your time. Go and see Frozen II at a movie theatre instead.
Wonderful spirit. Great staff. Solid regional theater.
Good hockey game today, good seats, enjoyed the venue.️
Been coming here for 30 years the show a Christmas Carol gets better every year its one of the best shows great family time great tradition .My hats off to the cast of the 2019 season a Christmas Carol
See this christmas carol every year has become a family tradition. The slight change every year makes it amazing.
Loved it first time here will definitely go back.
Little Shop Of Horrors was hands down, one of the very best shows Ive seen at The Rep! The comedy, timing and accentuation of certain localized stylings was a real treat! Kudos to the entire Enssmble for setting up the leads, so wonderfully ! Audrey really shined with subtle intermittent flourishes reminiscent of Ellen Greene... but more than blew it away with her shimmering vocals. Orin... oh Orin! At times I felt like Steve Martin would jump at me... but what made me laugh the whole time was the vinyl/pvc dentists costume! truly an accomplishment of reinvention for campiness! Seymour was fantastic and cast perfectly! Selfishly, in any production, I always want to see a stronger vocal performance from Seymours character ( understanding thats not the point), but his timing and acting more than made up for it! Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon were absolutely fabulous! Their written purpose in the script was split at the seams and delivered so much more! Bravo! And of course... Audrey II and the plant. What is there to say?! I really appreciated her soulfulness and edgy rock rasp in her vocals and seducing body language made this a perfect stage production for me. Bravo to all involved ! Trinity, a treasure trove for Providence!
One of the best theaters in New England. Reasonably priced - offering great discounts and deals throughout the year - and always thoroughly entertaining. Had the pleasure of attending a performance of Pride & Prejudice and was absolutely delighted by the fresh, unique spin they took on the original. Hands-down one of the best productions I have ever seen! And bravo to the entire cast - it was spectacular!
Christmas carol play very good I loved it.
Great Christmas show very diverse and very inspiring......loved it well done Jude Sandy, Ricardy Fare, AJ Baldwin and Ribbon Gamble.... Well done!
Had a great time a sisters day out the play was good
Just saw A Christmas Carol. Incredible! And for such a small theater, the effects were very well-done. Not to mention they brought in a local high school chorus for the night. Im so excited to see another show!
Been going since I was a kid in RI, and even got to work a couple of shows as a crew member. Great people. Great actors always. And top tier theatre.
Had a wonderful time at Little Shop of Horrors I have been to this theater a bunch of times and every time it is a treat the staff is welcoming and the actors and choice of performances are always top-notch and enjoyable highly recommend getting tickets for anything coming here just to show love for the fact that this theater is not for profit and puts on most of the shows themselves Bravo a standing ovation every time
Loved Macbeth! Amazing cast, set, and a memorable modern version of Shakespeare, accessible and entertaining, not stuffy. The building is beautiful, staff very friendly, I felt welcome and appreciated; world class all-around. Go see a play!
This is a great venue for a show. Both the upstairs and downstairs theaters are fantastic.
Great place and plays. If you can join the discussion previous to the show!!! Also we really liked having dinner brought to us and enjoy the food backstage!!!
Not a bad seat in the house! A Christmas Carol is a yearly traditions, but their year round plays are always a good time.
This is the type of place that doesnt need much more said about it. I attended the 2019 performance of A Christmas Carol and it did not disappoint.
Christmas Carol this year was incredible ️
If your looking for a cozy, comfortable and intimate theater experience, Trinity Rep is the place for you. Expect a personal experience, and a friendly troupe. Conveniently located in central downtown Providence, come prepared for a true metropolitan night, filled with wonder and real fun.
Beautiful small theater with outstanding plays.
Christmas Carol is always fantastic. Set was new and fresh this year. Fred Sullivan is one if our favorite actors. If you can, I recommend dinner at Bravo or Rosalinas before a show.
A Christmas Carol was amazing. The players were fantastic, the set was perfect. My eleven year old daughter was mesmerized. It was a magical night we wont soon forget.
Wonderful Xmas Carol... tradition and great for kids
Saw MacBeth this evening with a good friend. Excellent play and great actors! Friendly staff and lovely theater.
Saw Christmas Carol there and it was fabulous
Dont miss this jubilant, timely, exquisitely staged production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Lots of fun surprises for all ages in the audience! Glorious music!
The Christmas Carol show and cast were great. I loved the theater and the parking next door was very convenient. It was a wonderful experience to start the holidays off.
Went on a behind the scenes tour. It was fascinating.
Absolutely wonderful. So many great actors/actresses. Yearly tradition to go the Christmas Carol. Every seat is a good seat.
Amazing vibes. Humble people skating outside.
We saw A Christmas Carol, it was amazing as always! There was lots of staff to help direct us where to go and find our seats. We took advantage of the pre-order service for intermission, when we came out to the lobby, our drinks were ready to enjoy with no waiting on line!
Small, intimate theater. EXCELLENT performances.
Excellent. Not a bad seat in the house, very interactive. I have never had a poor experience here! Came for Christmas Carol and am looking forward to performances later in the year!
A Christmas Carol is oir family tradition and it never disappoints. Amazing performance every year. Highly recommend!
Seats are elbow to elbow and wayyy too close for comfort! Extremely hot in there and arm rails to go up and down the stairs were loose and rickety. The place needs an overhaul. Tickets cost over $100 apiece and we were all so uncomfortable that it was impossible to focus on or to attempt to enjoy the show!! It was complete torture! I will never again step foot in The Trinity Repertory even with free tickets!!
Goo here every season.Terrific set up and performances
The show the shop with horror I forgot the name but that was a good musical and service is good and the bathroom was clean
Trinity Rep always puts on a fantastic show with great acting & costumes. Their theaters are also pretty small, which usually makes for a more intimate experience.
Great place to see local plays.
Excellent production of A Christmas Carol this year. This is a cozy theater with limited seating, but every seat is a good seat. The productions use a small center stage and several smaller areas and entryways around the edge of the room. If you go, it is a good idea to pre-order your intermission drinks. You pay when you order them, then at intermission they are ready. You just pick them up and go, no lines.
A real Providence gem. Very nice and helpful staff. Beautiful building. We really enjoyed Pride and Prejudice there last night.
This is a small theatre; tickets are reasonably priced. The performance was great. You should prepare to pay for parking; although it wasnt too bad cost wise. You can find some places to eat close by. It was a special treat!
Saw Little Shop of Horrors. Excellent show. Singing, acting, and choreography was beautifully done.
Great small theater. Saw MacBeth. Quality production in all regards from acting to set design, to music, to costume, etc.
Very good show.
The acting was really good but we hated the play
Great 1st time experience... Went to see The Black Odyssey which was excellent
Thought the current production of P&P (Oct, 2018) was a delight... fast paced... quirky... while remaining very true to the novels storyline and dialogue.
I went along time ago when i was a kid, now the effects were awesome, and the joking around here and there involving the audience was a great touch. the barrington high school choir had a great sound and they did a great job
Of all the theater companies to visit in the Southern New England region, none compare to the talent, production and creativity of the Trinity Repertory Company in downtown Providence. I have been attending productions there for the past 15 years, and I have never once been disappointed. I even participated in the Trinity High School Ambassador program from 2005 to 2007, where I saw every single production, sat in on rehearsals, met with members of the esteemed resident acting company, and learned much from a variety of theater arts workshops. The Trinity Rep Co. holds two theaters: the Dowling and Chace theaters. The Dowling is located on the ground floor, and offers a rare, intimate setting for small but unique and creative productions. The Chace theater is located on the upper levels of the building, and plays host to larger and more popular and well-known productions, like musicals or Shakespeare. Every holiday season, the Chace plays host to their annual production of Trinity Reps A Christmas Carol, the premiere theater event of the season in Providence.Trinity Rep is a one of a kind theater experience that everyone should go and enjoy, adults and children alike. If you wants to experience the finest example of theater arts in Providence, look no further than the Trinity Repertory Company!
Fabulous take on A Christmas Carol
Just saw A Christmas Carol it was wonderful. The best one Ive seen
I love when my daughter Lisa asked me if I want to go and see the Christmas Carol it was Awesome.
Providence is considered the best theater in the country outside New York for a good reason. I frequent all sort of stages in NY and occasionally in London and other European cities, and Trinity is right up there at par with them. The hidden treasure though is the Brown Univ. MFA programs plays.
Great facility, awesome plays!
Clean and organized. Field trip wise. Seating was good and you could see the stage perfectly
We go to see A Christmas Carol here every year and each time the performance is different. The venue is exceptional and this year the stage was in the center which was excellent. The actors were amazing!
Great shows performed by a talented group of actors. Plenty of good restaurants in the area too. Dinner and a show makes a great date night.
Outstanding performance of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol this season... Always heart warming
Great Show this year! Havent been in 3 years. So glad the whole family made it.
Agree with earlier review. The 2019 so-called A Christmas Carol was NOT A Christmas Carol. A load of TRASH. We walked out.
Excellent opening night production!
Small but intimate theater worth checking out. Lots of parking near by also.
Great show and pretty good seats. I’d definitely come back for another show.
A very nice and small theater. The layout makes it so that it is easy to see the stage from just about every seat.
A Christmas Carol was wonderful. Funny, scary, sweet. Terrific acting and singing.
