It’s my first time hiking here in the woods. Due to the lack of marks at crossroads and Google Map’s misleading directions, a hiker as me even got lost several times. The trails are just like a puzzle. I saw three girls who also lost directions to the swinging bridge. Even though, overall it’s a woody park you can enjoy hiking either alone or with family or friends.
The woods are beautiful but beware of wild life! We took a beaten path to walk, somewhere to the left of the parking lot. As we were walking, we saw a huge animal about a mile and a half away. It was brown and black in colour, maybe a bear or something else ! It was HUGE !. We slowly turned around and walked off, praying under our breath. Everybody, please be careful.
There are lots of trails there but surprisingly no trail map near the entrance! And no signs at all ! so highly recommend to have GPS on plus pick the right trail if you like to go towards the swinging bridge.
Nice even hike with several trails. Great for beginners.
Great hiking trials, could use better signage. Read map before heading out.
Mature forest with large paths, perfect for a nice shady hike. Lots of wildlife and history to discuss with children.
We enjoyed so very much as a family. I am thankful that our state had the foresight to lay groundwork for positioning of walking, riding, hiking trails and that it continues to do so. It was however, disappointing to find access to trails at institute woods considering the grounds for parking were located on private land. In fact, while perusing the map for there & Rogers Refuge, there was no indication of public parking. It saddens me to think that land deemed public & accessible is so incredibly difficult to access. I worked for New Jersey Conservation Foundation thirty years ago. The trail system serves local indeed. « Act local think global » is certainly a mantra that has become me. However, Institute Woods and a handful of other « public access » lands make it questionably difficult to benefit from.
Nice trial, it’s good for biking and running too.. and the kids like the swing bridge
Calm. Serene. Soothing.
Gem in Historic PrincetonQuiet refuge bordering Battlefield State Park. Level trails easy, wildlife abundant, typically not crowded. Cons, Stonybrook sluggish.
Beautiful trails through the woods makes for a wonderful afternoon walk. Great place for families and Kurds to explore nature.
Nice trek in shade.
It was nice.
Beautiful area to walk around. Lots of nature and also history. This is the area through which Washingtons army marched on their way to Princeton. The battlefield is nearby. You can walk dogs here and it is a fun place for kids.
Easy and lengthy walking trails. Nicely placed plaques to learn as you walk!
Grr place to walk on well maintained trails. The leaves are awesome in fall.
Nice woods with open paths in middle of farmland. Plenty of possibilities to hike. Accessible through the battlefield park or institute complex.
You could walk for hours, we did. Loved it. Absolutely beautiful.
I was actually at the Princeton Quaker Meeting. If you value peace and quiet, come at 9 am or 10 am any Sunday.
Not too remote but enough and the suspension bridge was great!
Great for running, watch out for mud
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep - but the section to the South, starting from the Old Meeting House, is spectacular. Vast rolling fields, luminous trees - the kind of vista one almost never sees in a town.
Lovely time hiking here. Need directions to find the hidden suspension bridge
Great place to enjoy nature, very diverse in plants and mushrooms
This is a good walking spot but I really wanted a map. From what I read there is a suspension bridge somewhere but from the written directions I couldnt find it.
Nice quiet outing, safe, reasonably clean
The Institute Woods are a maze of forest trails sandwiched between the Institute for Advanced Study, the canal, and Quaker Bridge Road. Nine times out of ten the paths are dry and mud free, although trees do tend fall and hamper walks in Autumn. Definitely check out the suspension bridge hidden deep within.
Really neat park in Princeton. Great trails, and a bird sanctuary with one off-road trail
Beautiful, austere trails that are well kept but not overly traveled
Quiet and nice place to walk or run.
A nice place to go for a nature walk. There is also a nice creek towards the back end of the woods
I was really glad I went
A place of America’s history. A must see.
Lots and lots and lots of trails through the woods. Great place for a nice walk
Great place to explore
Great running paths including on a former trolley grade. Careful of the deer ticks.

Suspension bridge was a hidden jewel
A hidden gem. Great for a ramble among the trees.
